  1. Review - TuneUp Utilities

    8.0.1100.43 (Nov 23, 2008)

    Hey frites

Concentrate on reviewing TuneUp Utilities and try to avoid comparisons and criticisms of other similar programs. They are in appropriate and uncalled for.

Have tried out the latest version of TU and whilst I find it competent I have to say that I do not find that much has changed when compared to TU 2008. All the functions are capable but nothing to write home about. This is IMHO one of the better such utilities out there and a worthwhile investment (although my allegiance lies elsewhere at the moment and what I see here does not prompt me into going through a change process)

  2. Review - Kaspersky Internet Security

    8.0.0.445 Beta (Jul 25, 2008)

KIS 2009 as a product is NOT beta. It is released and stable at Build 357 (available from www.kaspersky.com). This build is the precursor to the MP1 release or Maitenance Pack 1 release that is due to be officially out shortly.

This CF release improves on the official release but it not yet stable enough for mainstream release

  3. Review - System Mechanic Professional

    7.5.7.11 (Feb 17, 2008)

Not using the Profession version but the Standard version and all I can say is that the early release of version 7 were pretty poor but with v7.5.6 & v7.5.7 IMHO Iolo have come good. As a reuslt I have upgraded from v6 and I believe that this version is not running better than anytnig they have released for a long time. There is , on my PC, no slowdown or delay caused by the background analyser processes and so far the function is running perfectly OK for me.

A good application and getting better.

  4. Review - Norton AntiBot (32-bit)

    1.0.2 Beta (Jun 10, 2007)

Looks to my very much like a rebadge/reskin of Sana Security Primary Response SafeConnect. Having said that I tested PRSC a while back and found it to be effective...but not for me given my current security set up. I wonder if Symantec has plans to buy Sana Security?

No parental controls is something that has been hotly debated at the KL forum...they are not in everyone defiition of what a suite should have (you could use a standalone...there are some good ones about), no heuristics is just NOT true. The engine may not match up to NOD32's but it is there...and there will be a new engine released before the end of the year or so I gather, the spam component sucks...at first but after 4 months mine is now working very well...it just seems that it needs a longer than most training period, and the bugs just stick like glue...well, it is not yet a released piece of software but then again I have not really come across any major bugs to speak of...perhaps I am lucky.
