This is a better explanation, but if we are looking at things in terms of cpu micro-code we still are really only doing one thing at a time. We may be sharing ever smaller slices of time with many apps, but still are not servicing more than one application or process at a time.

This may a bit of a stretch, but I think a human brain works this way, at least the cognitive processing/thinking part. Thought is a sequential process, we tend to think things through.

Now if there are multiple cpu's and the OS has been coded to split a process into multiple sub-processes, then indeed, we would be doing multi-processing.

Multitasking, not a chance, on either machine. A single CPU system cannot multitask ... that is, do more than one thing at a time. What it will do is appear to be doing several things at once, but appearances can be deceiving.

Having a bunch of apps open and in memeory is not multitasking. The programs will be in a que and the app that has the focus will get the CPU's attention. If it appears as though several things are happening, well the focus is just quickly shifting between the competing apps.

In a more advanced machine that is using an advanced OS that supports at least SMTP, then there is a chance. Provided of course that the programmer and the compiler that created the program provided the ability to integrate into the OS to properly achieve a multitasking environment.

Sorry, multitasking is a really misunderstood term that doesn't fit in with the micro-computer way of doing things.

    just my 2 bits worth.

Anthony Maas said, "Can u say war? Everyone blames bush for the bad economy when it is really a number of things including congress and the fact that we are now forced into spending billions of dollars to keep us safe!!!!! Ill do with low pay to keep me from dying by the hands of a raghead."

Safe, just what did you have in mind when you said that?
You must feel like a target, I wondwer why?

One shudders at the very idea of M$ authoring software to run something serious, like an aircraft carrier.

Let's not confuse bells-n-whistles with robust systems.

Economies, down the tubes... checked the value of your stocks lately, if you own any? I do know the US stocks I hold are all worth considerably less than they were a year ago. Who wants to explain that one?

This colonial thinking will only alienate and create further tension and resentment, was that intended?

The judgement issued by the courts would seem to be in opposition to what was expressed when the proceedings began. This suggests the courts are being influenced, is there any doubt about whether they are?
