It's still great and there's still a free version

Be quiet radiomaffia. If you have a problem with the trackers you use, take it up with them. uTP is allowed on all the private trackers I use and believe me, they are not small unknown trackers.

  3. Review - Comodo Internet Security (32-bit)

    4.0.141842.828 (Apr 13, 2010)

I don't really understand where Comdo think they're going with v4* of this product. The introduction of the sandbox is very poorly implemented and instead of enhancing security, seems to do the exact opposite.

In addition to the 'sandbox' component, the security settings need to be examined very carefully. Certain configuration choices result in rules that potentially allow all communication out. Make sure you select the 'Proactive' option, if you don't, check your firewall rules before venturing onto the Web.

The 'new' web based installer is a bit of a joke, requiring the removal of any existing third party firewall, before downloading this version.

The context sensitive help has been removed from each dialogue box and replaced with a link to their 'live support' operation. Incidentally, the installer now downloads and installs PC Live support without requiring any sort of confirmation. Fortunately, it can be easily removed.

The installer now almost rams their Hopsurf toolbar down your throat and also reintroduces the option to install Ask as your default search engine. All of which are optional, but I'd prefer to have the default set to opt-out and not opt-in.

The interface is still as confusing as ever, if not more so with the added features. the colour is a terrible choice, with no alternatives available with the shipped product to change it. Also, there is no way to clear the log files, without manually resorting to deleting files.

Personally, I think version v4 is a retrograde step. 3.14 had just about reached stability, but instead of simply building on that base and perhaps incorporating ideas from their user base, they 'threw together' this far to hastily released version.

if you like this security suite, I'd stay with 3.14 for now, and if you need a sandbox, use something like sandboxie.
