Resource hog? Check. Bloatware? Check. Ugly? Check. Junk? Check. Uninstall it? Check and Double Check!
9.60 Build 10421 RC1 (Sep 5, 2008)
Opera needs to drop Widgets from the top menu bar, or allow a "Remove from Toolbar" choice. Some of us don't use Widgets and never will.
9.51 (Jul 6, 2008)
Not in a hurry to download 9.51, because 9.50, when uninstalled, left some "Auto Play" junk in the registry that had to be manually cleaned out. No thanks. Sticking with 9.27 for now.
9.50 Build 10063 Final (Jun 16, 2008)
I also tried 9.5 it for a few days, had problems with large downloads repeatedly freezing my desktop, also trouble rendering several websites, so returned to 9.27. I'll play it safe and wait for 9.54 or so. ;-)

Very impressive for a change, and I agree it's lighter and smoother running, and has a far better looking GUI than any FF skin I've seen. It's also nice to see the good old ship's wheel splash screen on startup. I could definitely get used to this...

Firefox has never been a meaningful choice for me. Sluggish, messy, ugly as sin, and a pain to use. Opera was my browser of choice for several years, until they started whining too loudly about MS. So goodbye, Opera. Chrome I have tried, and it's fine if you want a Fisher-Price toy browser. Right now, I'm quite happy with IE8.

So now, Google comes up with a web version of the chestburster from the movie ALIEN. Why am I not surprised by their latest parasitic move?

Why don't they call it what it really is: Google Grafitti. Because you know that people, being people, won't use it for intelligent or productive commentary...just for internet grafitti.

"It's all so staid, so contained, so contrived."
Don't you get it? That's what makes it so funny! Like one of the old educational short films we used to see in school (probably before your time), the films and the people in them were as square as could be but hilarious. All it needs is the MST3K guys in the corner to complete the picture! ;)
No matter; Windows 7 is terrific and will succeed in spite of those with no sense of humor. :)

Vista was and still is fine, once UAC and Indexing are turned off and extra memory installed. For me it's been a lot more stable (no crashes, freezes, or BSODs ever) than XP, but Windows 7 is even better, based on the RC. I'll happily stay with Windows, either Vista or 7 is just fine by me.
