3.9.8.3 Beta (Dec 29, 2008)
This utility has completely changed my ability to work on a computer. Whenever I don't have it, I feel as lost as a regular user without a mouse.
Reasons why SlickRun puts Win+R (With .lnk or .bat files) to shame:
1) Longer auto-completion history. Pretty self-explanatory.
2) No system setup. I don't have to change my environment variables or anything else... I just run a setup program. Also, SlickRun doesn't require Administrator access to work (although some functionality is removed without this access), whereas changing the PATH variable does.
3) The window grabber. There's no need for me to dig through my file system to find where the executable for a given app is. I just need it to be open, and I can use the grabber to set up a shortcut for it. I've used this to actually stop virii, as it opened a window and I was able to use the window grabber to get the full path of where the executable was, and get it deleted.
4) Full versatility. .bat files require you to know the full path of any executables you want to run (see window grabber, above), and .lnk files can't actually use any variables (my favorite is 'google ' as a command).
5) Portability. While this is a bit of a repeat of 2, the import/export words functionality requires fewer steps than zipping up a 'shortcuts' directory and carrying it around to any new machines.
