  1. Comment - How Many Users Does Second Life Really Have?

    (May 9, 2007 - 4:15 PM)

Also lets not forget that Linden Labs allows unverified accounts, so many people who are regular users will often have multiple accounts, one as their primary, one as their inventory backup (because LL still hasn't figured out how to not screw up their own database and lose peoples inventories.) And then there's the people who get banned for griefing and will just go create another account and continue to harass people simply because all accounts are unverified.

On average there's between 25,000 to 40,000 people in game at any one time, so I believe these numbers are closer to the truth than what LL has been feeding us all this time. If they clamped down on account signups and made everyone verified, then their numbers would not look so impressive.
