  1. Review - K-Lite Codec Pack Update

    12/06/06 (Dec 9, 2006)

    Only a 3-rate because I have a problem.
I am sure that somebody will be able to point me to the solution.
I want to play DVD-movies on my PC.

I do not have any media player except Windows Media Player 11.
I also do not want to install any other player.
The above means that I cannot view DVD movies on my PC - right ?

    What did I do ?

    I installed K-lite Mega 161
    Default installation.
Can I view DVD movies ? The answer is no !
    That's why I uninstalled K-lite Mega 161, because = no use.

Then I installed XP coded pack.
    Default installation.
Can I view DVD movies ? The answer is YES !

    My question :
Whatis the problem with K-lite in this case ?

  2. Review - Windows Media Player for Windows XP (32-bit)

    11.0 Final (Oct 30, 2006)

    I am very sorry.
It is the first time that I turn down an MS software.
    1. It is very slow.
    2. The user interface is depressive (it looks like a coffin, a mortuary) it is simply black and ugly.
    3. The standard menu-bar has been left out by default (see also IE7).
    4. And then there is that DRM smell !

It will never come on my machine !

  3. Review - Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows XP

    7.0 Final (Oct 19, 2006)

I am an MS-addict and I used MS stuff whenever possible since Windows 3.0. Yes indeed.

With IE7 things might come to a turn however !

The menu bar has gone (a pity) but can be forced to appear by means of the alt-key on the keyboard.
That's great, only it comes in on the wrong place : underneath the address bar instead of on top of it, where it belongs according to the GUI rules within MS-software.
A lot of people have voiced there objections against this way of doing - MS was stubborn !

The address & search bar are fixed, not customizible w.r.t. place and dimensions.
Again, A lot of people have voiced there objections against this way of doing - MS was stubborn again !

Well I hate obstinate people who on top of that dare to write on their web-site : We heard you !
They most probably heard us, but they did not listen to what we were saying.

Because of the above, IE7 will be the first MS software that I will not be using - I hope that the people of FireFox are better listeners.

    Regards

  4. Review - Diskeeper 2011 Professional

    10.0.686 (Oct 18, 2006)

    @ *mj*
    @ jaywatts

If you distrust MS that much, then you should not use Diskeeper because the defragmenter in Windows is also made by Diskeeper !

You made me give the lowest (1) rating to your Diskeeper :-)

    hahahaha

  5. Review - Paint.NET

    3.0 Alpha 1 (Oct 14, 2006)

Version 3 does still not have a "magnetic lasso" selection tool like Photo Shop Elements (which does not cost hundreds of dollars).

That's a pity, maybe version 4 will get a full 5 from my side. For now it is still a 2 because of the above shortcoming.

  7. Comment - IE7 Beta 2 Receives Mixed Reviews

    3.0 Alpha 1 (May 3, 2006 - 3:41 AM)

I have been using the Beta2 since it came out.
So far so good - I have nothing to complain about.
It's a good browser that lets me do what I want to do.
It is going to stay on my machine, thanks MS !

  8. Comment - Google Cries Foul Over IE7 Search Box

    3.0 Alpha 1 (May 3, 2006 - 3:31 AM)

I installed IE7 beta 2 a couple of days ago.
It was easy to add Google & Yahoo as well as other search engines, which I did. And I set Google by default because I have been using Google already all the time.

Their whining made me change my mind however.
MSN-serch is now my default and I wiped Google completeley (it's not even amongst my choises anymore).
They have been too childish this time - sorry !

  9. Comment - Google to IE Users: Try Firefox

    3.0 Alpha 1 (Apr 28, 2006 - 8:22 AM)

I got a couple of these invitations by Google to drop IE and to go for FF instead.

I didn't drop IE, but Google instead because I have no need for an intriguer on my PC.

IE7 together with MSN search are doing a perfect job for me.
