  1. Review - #1 DVD Ripper

    1.2.06 (Aug 25, 2003)

Bought this one and so far have been very pleased with it. Have had a problem with only one movie, conerning the audio. The audio and video were out of synch. This occured with all formats (DIVX,VCD,SVCD) for this DVD. But have ripped 4 others with great results. On my laptop I am still able to rip a full movie in under 4 hours. Not bad.

  2. Comment - Metallicster - The Net for Napster Users

    1.2.06 (Jun 3, 2000 - 2:12 PM)

I am amazed at how many people want to make this about money. Sure in Metallicas eyes it is about money, but the bottom line is its about knowledge. The knowledge is now out there. There is no way to make it illegal, or to regulate it. It is the nature of the beast. Say they shut down Napster, a week later someone is already releasing another piece of software that gets around the legal loopholes.

I agree that artists should get paid for their work, I mean come on people, they have a skill that they are using to earn a living. Isn't that what we all do? So what if you think that they are overpaid. I can't count how many jobs are out there that someone is getting paid rediculous amounts of money for doing something that you would consider easy. That is life, for goodness sake.

I see these people like Metallica who think that they know what the internet is about because they have *surfed* and are outraged by this happening. Give me a break, some of the most intelligent people in the WORLD are on the internet. People who are software designers/developers, programmers, IT professionals and college kids who are so smart it would make you sick. We say that necessity is the mother of invention, so what did they think would happen when one of these people couldn't find that song they loved from 1984? Bingo Napster! It amazes me that it took this long before it became a problem for them. Look at warez, and how much money software developers lose each year. Did the music industry think that they would never be touched?

The knowledge is out there, there is nothing they can do about it. Now they have two choices, adapt or perish.

wow...to pay nearly 250$ for a package with only 2 or 3 applications that most people will ever use...why what a steal!!! You don't see them driving their prices up?!!! Why is it you have to buy the entire office suite? I bet most people only use Excel and Word and that is it. Why should the average user have to buy something that they will never use, just to get something that they will. I say this because most people that I know would never use Access, PowerPoint, or Outlook. But lets let that go, instead lets look at the 250$ for the whole package...when you pay that much for a product you would expect that it is a finished product, ready for delivery. I will bet that all those people that ran out and bought O2k when it first came out, were just thrilled to learn that a patch came out almost the same month..hello. Hey, what a great company to release a product and then have to release a fix for it so soon...hey I would love to go out and buy that Ferrari that you mentioned, and then a month later have to take it back so that they could fix the brakes..then a month later take it back to fix the steering...then a couple months later take it back to fix the windshield wipers...etc. etc.
How many patches are there for win98 now..hmmm. Quality products that make me a loyal MS user.

Ok, the car comparison is silly...you do not purchase the license when you purchase the car. When you purchase software, you purchase the license to use it also. It would appear that MS is of the opinion that even though you may have paid for it, it is never truly yours. We are leasing the software from MS. Also are you trying to say that by registering the software I am proving that I am capable of using the software?! Hello, where did you come up with that one?
