  1. Comment - Microsoft software licensing: Seven deadly sins

    (May 16, 2011 - 4:47 PM)

To the author bashers - just because someone critiques MS this does not make them a MS hater. The SA is confusing and it does penalize LOYAL longterm customers. Apparently from this article, it is penalizing MS as well.
Businesses must watch their budgets as much as home users. If they do not watch their costs - they will risk failure. MS does need to rip out the current system - query their customers to see what would be beneficial to their companies/employees.
When I say customers I mean - separate the customers first by Business versus Home, then within Business - define the size of the Business and within the Home define the needs. This will provide business and home users the ability to forecast expenditures and, concurrently, will allow MS to maintain a stable bottom line. In definining Businesses and their needs: Big Business, Medium Business, Small Business, Home-Based Business. Then look at the end users - home end users - do they have school age children? How many computers? What REALLY works for them? The current MS product packaging leaves a lot to be desired - especially if they want to promote their packages for future purchasers. Some basic applications are separated out just to make a few extra pennies. Penny wise pound foolish is not the way a company grows and it is not the way MS grew to be the size MS is. Many people who are disatisfied with home products will not recommend them for business and vice versa.
Whomever is making the decisions for MS is not looking at the fact that if they are not making wise decisions - they are basically working themselves out of employment. As MS earnings decline this leads to job loss. Common Sense. Simple reasoning.

  2. Comment - Vista's image problem personified

    (Aug 22, 2008 - 4:23 PM)

Why doesn't MS just listen to people - why do they assume the people are ignorant saps that do not know what they want or do not want.
Vista is a nag, it is dumbed down, it is trying to be MAC, it is a hog, it demands hardware that is not within everyone's budget and it is illogical. What people expect to have - has been removed. The rule of thumb is: do not take away - value add to instead. When you take away - you may not think what you took is important, yet to others it is.
The security nagging (even after it is disabled it flashes warnings), the various versions that are over priced, the dumbing down and NOW - assuming that people do not think for themselves is what is wrong with the MS product line. They are catering to their own company wants/needs and not the masses they sell to. Ballmer should know better - he is on some success talk circuits that tell others to not do what he himself is doing.

  3. Comment - Microsoft posts videos of users who liked Vista after thinking it was new OS

    (Jul 29, 2008 - 5:24 AM)

Vista is another Windows Millenium. Rather than trying to prove themselves right - MS should be surveying the customers to see what they do not like about Vista. They should be honest and state: Ooops - we misread the public, our apologies.
Vista is what you get when you create and test a product in a sterile environment. Combine that with a group that does not deem user input to be valuable, group of yes people and another group of theory driven employees who have not worked in high production focused business models equals an unsuccessful end result.
Vista is a resource hog, it is a Mac wannabe, it is geared to treat the public like idiots and it is over priced.
MS has the mentality of the auto dealership industry "Sell it to them whether they need it or not." We do not need a new Operating System every time MS thinks we should get one.
Why not clean up the Operating Systems so we do not have to deal with bloat, yet maintain legacy attributes for those who have special applications that require legacy Operating systems.
As large as that company is, as many brainiacs as they get from the universities - they should have a better grip on reality.

For those who disagree with the first sentences - read literature based upon continuously successful people. One of the biggest reasons for a company to fail is the lack of ability to correctly understand the audience they are appealing to.
Hello Master of Ignoring the enduser.

  4. Comment - Intel shuffles its ad agencies after controversial mag spread

I did not see a racial component. I saw incredibly athletic people prepping for a sprint. Actually, if you want to toss racism into it... the white male looks fairly pudgy and pasty faced. It would be more of a slap against the white male rather than the athletes.
