When I read about all the new features of EasyMalwareBlocker I was very sceptical. As I was not very happy with my Anti-Virus, Anti Spam-, Defender-programs, etc, I wanted to try something new so I downloaded the program. The installation was a breeze and after I rebooted my computer EasyMalwareBlocker was up and running.
Initializing EasyMalwareBlocker was a breeze as I made it really simple (not exactly as recommended by the authors of EMB...). I decided not to reinstall my OS and I didn't even run Anti Virus Programs, etc, as I had a pretty good feeling that my computer has not been infected with malware. Boy, was I wrong! When I connected to the Internet EMB popped up a message saying that a program I certainly did not install myself wanted to access the Internet. I just told EMB to block it, but who knows what kind of personal data that program has already sent to their home server before I installed EMB... Not really a good feeling...
When I downloaded a program from the Internet using the built-in XP downloader EMB blocked it, but I remembered that they said that the FSM has to be in Blacklist Mode (Save Mode) in order to download any executable files. As the FSM was in Whiltelist Mode (Super Safe Mode) I changed the mode and tried again and this time the download worked fine. Anyway, I saw that EMB can block executable files indeed, only this time it was the wrong one, but it was all my fault.
Then I wanted to test if EMB really is able to block malware as advertised. I surfed with FSM in Whitelist Mode (I manually put the file extension .js to the list) to many kind of different sites and soon I had many tabs open. And then it happened: I heard sound and the icon was blinking, indicating a file has been blocked. I doubleclicked the icon and in the list that popped up there it was, the executable file which has been blocked!
I get sick when I remember what procedures I had to to go through when I thought my computer had become infected with malware before I installed EMB (run Anti-Virus, Ad- and Spyware remover programs, you know, which took such a long time and sometimes in the end if one program did not find anything I thought it was better to run another one, etc). I'm really happy that EMB makes my life so much easier now.
I havn't uninstalled my good old Anti-Virus programs yet, but that might just be the next thing I do.
