  1. Review - Skype for Windows

    4.2.0.163 (Apr 27, 2010)

I thought the same thing a month or so ago, even complained about it on the skype forums.
MSM did the same when I used to use that, same fix works.
right click -> properties on skype's exe, run in vista compatibility mode.

The devs have listened though, changelog :

All Extras and games are now free of charge.
Added an option to disable Skype icon in the task bar when using Skype with Windows 7.
    The “Shop” tab was removed.

It's in advanced -> Advanced Settings: Keep skype in the taskbar while I'm signed in

  2. Review - Paint.NET (Beta)

    3.55.3762 Beta (Apr 22, 2010)

recent earlier versions were .net 3.5 , clearly stated on the download page.

    3.55 betas - "Paint.NET v3.5.5 - Download, released on April 20th, 2010
This update fixes a bug when saving 8-bit images, improves layer composition and Gaussian Blur performance, and is now updated to support the new .NET Framework 4.0." framework 4 is in fact now a requirement.

Absolutely one of the top 10 pieces of free software ever.

  3. Review - 7-Zip (32-bit)

    4.64 (Jan 5, 2009)

I update 7zip archives all the time with drag and drop, and deleting individual files, I've never forced the 'non solid' option, or in fact ever changed it from default (x64 build). Not sure what your problem is.

Great app, doesn't need a pretty interface, 7zip format is fantastic.

  4. Review - Notepad++

    5.1.2 (Dec 15, 2008)

Nod32 was detecting adware also, that IS a real AV.
Either nod was updated for the false positive, or the EXE was updated later.

Either way, it's all good now.

hooray for no more vista virtualstore confusion, I've been waiting for that for ages. Now a NUL/FF/EOT/BL/SOH/DC1/BS/DLE to whitespace glyph toggle button & or shortcut is all I'd hope for. Still a 5 though.

  5. Review - The Dude

    3.0 (Dec 6, 2008)

06/12/2008, virustotals 38 engines (including nod32, kasp, symantc) believe this build to be problem free.

  6. Comment - Forget iPhone 5, Samsung sells 3 million Galaxy S IIs in just 55 days

    3.0 (Jul 5, 2011 - 4:59 AM)

    debug mode my eye.
I've owned the galaxy S since the first day of release in the UK. Bar a small bug with long filenames, fixed within the first month or so of release that used to stop kies connecting for some, all I've ever had to do was plug the phone in, select kies instead of USB transfer when asked (by default it's always in kies mode anyway), and run the update. That is all.
Yes kies installs some drivers when you first install it or update kies itself, what phone coms package doesn't?

  7. Comment - MAGIX Music Maker 17 -- Silver edition is free

    3.0 (Jun 28, 2011 - 10:06 PM)

I guess it's all about the included samples.

  8. Comment - MAGIX Music Maker 17 -- Silver edition is free

    3.0 (Jun 28, 2011 - 10:02 PM)

So a relevant comparison would be http://lmms.sourceforge.net/ I think (having not tried magix admittedly, but lmms is free OSS)

  9. Comment - iPhone 4 vs Nexus S: Which smartphone is right for you?

    3.0 (Dec 30, 2010 - 7:41 AM)

No gorilla glass, 720p or microSD, I was going to try upgrade my Galaxy S to the Nexus S but now I think I'll stick :/

  10. Comment - That was fast: Samsung is top Android phone maker in U.S.

    3.0 (Dec 4, 2010 - 7:39 AM)

And they will lose it just as fast (EU as well as US) if they don't sort out their software, and actually provide some official peripherals as promised (car mount) that millions of people actually want.
