This is the best file renaming utility EVER to exist on this planet. Once you do RegExes, you can never go back to just block search and replace. RegEx 4 Life!
8.5 Beta (Jun 29, 2007)
Looks great and goes well with Vista, but I really wish the installer was about.. one-fourth the size that it is right now. 18.5mb? Come on.

I'm sick of this growing trend of publishing crippled shareware apps as "freeware" that con most people into downloading them. What's the point? After using the app, people will realise that its crippled, so who is the developer trying to fool anyway?
6.4.8.7 (Nov 28, 2005)
Have you guys checked the file size of this thing lately? When extracted, 6.4.8.7 is 5.27MB and 6.4.8.4 is 4.7MB! I'm going to stick to 6.4.8.2, because that's just 1.3MB and I haven't faced any problem with it yet. In fact, I'd like to get an older version that's under 1MB. I believe there was a time when MPlayerC was around 900KB. That's about as much as I can allow my media player to run into.
Edit: Okay, so the executable is not being UPX'd and distributed, but that's also for a reason - the new code is unable to run after compression (I tried it). Versions prior to 6.4.8.2 could be UPX'd without any problems. Even without UPXing, 6.4.8.2 was 3.5mb. Four point releases add 2MB? I think these guys should change their description away from being "an extremely light-weight media player".

Just about every media player out there sucks a$$. The top suck-ass players naturally being RealPlayer (any of them) and Windows Media Player 7 and 8. They're too damn big and resource heavy and full of tons of useless features that none of us will ever use. Here's my two cents: Use winamp for mp3, Windows Media Player 6.4 for video, and ThePlaya for divx. Screw everything else!

Put beta 2 on a test machine .. celeron 466 with 64megs of ram .. the damned thing didn't crash at all ! Getting it configured, up and running was a breeze cuz I hardly had to do any of it manually, and hell the UI looks kick-ass ! Looking forward to a folder called C:\WinXP on my drive .. :-)
