  1. Review - Data Crow

    3.8.6 (Feb 9, 2010)

Installer won't work in Windows 7 (x64) (even with Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode enabled).

  2. Review - VirtualBox

    3.0.0.49051 Beta 2 (Jun 24, 2009)

After the hours of recovery time I spent starting over from scrtatch with new VMs (after 3.0 berta one essentially destroyed them) I think I'll wait for the final release. That beta was more like an alpha as far as I'm concerned.

Otherwise, I've been very happy with the final versons of VirtualBox for the past few years. They continue to get better.

    Awesome program. Hideous icons.

  4. Review - Ubuntu

    8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) Alpha 3 (Aug 12, 2008)

Ubuntu is the best distro out there for the current majority of users. But there are other excellent ones too (Mandriva in Particular).

    However....

Ubuntu (and Debian upon which it's based) have one major flaw.

Unlike Windows x64, Fedora, openSUSE and Mandriva (to name a few) the support for running 32-bit apps on a 64-bit OS is very poor.

Unfortunately because of this, I'm going to have to abandon Ubuntu for the time being. I've got a new computer with 8GB of RAM (most of which would go unused on a 32-bit Os).

Until Debian/Ubuntu get their act together and figure out how to make 32-bit software as easily installable on their 64-bit distro (as the above mentioned competition does) they're going to lose a lot of enthusiasts. And in just a few years, 4GB + of RAM will be the norm. Will they be ready?

Now I just have to make up my mind.. Will it be it openSUSE or Mandriva for my default OS?....

  5. Review - Mandriva Linux

    2008.1 Spring Alpha 2 (Jan 11, 2008)

    Dear BetaNews,

Where o-where did you get that Screenshot?

It's not a Mandriva default desktop by any means.

  7. Comment - Usage share for both Windows and IE sink ever so slowly

    2008.1 Spring Alpha 2 (May 10, 2009 - 4:14 PM)

I had the same thought at first, but a lot of peiople are totally cluelsss when it comes to web browsers and not that many years ago a lot of ISPs bundled Netscape with their Internet software.

Heck I know someone who is still using IE for Macintosh OS 9 both of which are ancient..

KDE 4.1.1 is not THAT good. Vista beats it any day.

Let's talk when 4.5 comes out (which will be the *real* KDE 4).

I just got a new computer with a Core 2 Quad (ahead of it's time) and they're already talking about something to replace that next year?

    Hummmm...

    OK, programmers, get cracking!

Another option is to get the notice by email (per the email I got from barackobama.com today).
