  1. Review - Adobe Flash Player for Windows (IE)

    10.2.161.23 Preview 2 (Sep 29, 2010)

    Preview 1 didn't work on cammodels.com and this one doesn't either! :(

Sticking to the stable one for now.

  2. Review - Mozilla Firefox for Windows

    4.0 Beta 1 Candidate (Jun 29, 2010)

Seriously underwhelmed. The interface looks very unpolished, the browser is slow to start and lags when scrolling on many sites. Feels like driving a 20 year old worn out car. Tested it only on a netbook, but Chrome 6, IE9 DP 3 and Opera 10.60 all perform excellent on it.

I realize this is Beta 1 but I expected a lot more.

Actually 1 star but I'll give it 2 for the sake of the old times.

  3. Review - Ad Muncher

    4.81 Beta Build 31362 (Jan 28, 2010)

    King of all ad-blockers.

  4. Review - OpenOffice.org for Windows

    3.2.0 RC2 (Jan 14, 2010)

I really try to like it and evaluate it every 6 months but OOo got so outpaced by MS Office that it's no longer an option. If you have a couple of equations in a text it still gets dead slow. No SmartArt. Hideous interface. Hideous looking graphs. No noteworthy spellchecker.

I acknowledge it's free but MS Office H&S is so cheap now that this is now longer an argument. One also has to consider its prospects when changing to its OpenDocument format: OOo now has as little as 20 developers remaining and future support by Oracle is uncertain. MS Office has how many developers? Maybe 500 and support by MS is out of question.

    Unfortunately not recommended.

  5. Review - DivX for Windows

    7.0.0 (Jan 6, 2009)

DivX 7 is just another new format. Had they used the MP4 container it would at least have been compatible with Flash and all the mobile phones and devices already MP4-aware. I guess that wasn't their intention.

They should have left the idiotic skins for their converter, player etc away. The entire suit looks like apps were 6 years ago.

Having to install a special webplayer is an anachronism in 2009. Do they really think anyone will choose DivX over Flash or Silverlight for webmovies?

    DivX, please die quick!

  6. Comment - Internet Explorer 9 RTM launches at SXSW, hours ahead of global availability

    7.0.0 (Mar 15, 2011 - 6:10 AM)

Do they actually fix not security related bugs between major releases? IE9 still doesn't show favicons on SSL pages and I still cannot download attachments in Hotmail (SSL).

    Anybody else notice that?

  7. Comment - GMail "Conversation View" to become an option

    7.0.0 (Sep 29, 2010 - 4:20 PM)

Google is seeing the revamped Hotmail in the backmirror.

Are you currently quitting smoking? I know that feeling.

  9. Comment - Firefox 4 beta loses to IE9 beta in browser speed, efficiency tests

    7.0.0 (Sep 23, 2010 - 9:59 AM)

Guess it's the revenge of the Chinese spammers whose "buy Nike shoes cheap" always got ranked into oblivion.

  10. Comment - Adobe Reader faces its first genuine competition from a free alternative

    7.0.0 (May 26, 2010 - 5:37 AM)

I cannot get it to display any PDF file. As soon as I start the program, Windows 7 Pro 32 Bit displays a program error. But looks very promising. I'll definitely keep an eye on it.
