  1. Review - ZoneAlarm Free

    10.1.079.000 (Dec 26, 2011)

I don't see any reason to replace the Windows 7 native firewall. This OS has an excellent security level, and if you keep an image of it any serious problem may be easily fixed without adding any new external security elements.

  2. Review - Opera for Windows

    9.50 Build 9864 Beta (Mar 29, 2008)

Fast and reliable. Better than previous versions. It allows downloads to go on even when you close Opera. Tried on different OS, it works even on Win98. I love it.

  3. Review - Maxthon (v2)

    2.0.9.1640 (Mar 25, 2008)

Very good, as all the precedent versions. Tried on different OS, an excellent surprise: this version is valid again for Win98.

  4. Review - Mozilla Firefox (v2) for Windows

    2.0.0.13 (Mar 25, 2008)

    Simply the best.

  5. Review - jv16 PowerTools

    1.8.0.441 RC1 (Feb 27, 2008)

An excellent lot of programs. I've used it for many years. In fact I only use 5 of the many options and never any of the others. I would suggest to the developers, if I'm allowed to, to give the buyer the possibility to install the desired features and not inevitably the whole lot. BTW they may consider the possibility of making it freeware, but they have also the right to sell the fruit of their efforts as any other people.

  6. Comment - When do you want Windows 8?

    1.8.0.441 RC1 (Jun 22, 2011 - 4:57 PM)

What if you ask me if I wish something and you don't tell me what?

An OS is an instrument and not an end in itself. Microsoft should first consider what are user's real needs and offer solutions for such real needs.

If they work otherwise, that is considering manufacturer's interests as guide instead, the product will be another monster.

Until now they take in consideration user's interests only in a second round: a version is good and the following one is a real disaster (i.e.Windows ME and Vista).

  7. Comment - At its current growth rate, Windows 7 could replace XP in 2.5 years

    1.8.0.441 RC1 (Oct 24, 2010 - 6:01 AM)

AFAIK only old hardware prevent most users from using Windows 7.

It means a giant step forward and IMHO the term would be even shorter if the world economic situation improves.

  8. Comment - Confessions of a Windows 7 to Ubuntu switcher

    1.8.0.441 RC1 (Aug 24, 2010 - 5:13 PM)

At first I thought it was easy to find the proper drivers for SATA, but I could not find such drivers for this laptop.

  9. Comment - Motion picture industry is not a 'cartel,' judge rules in RealDVD case

    1.8.0.441 RC1 (Jan 12, 2010 - 12:55 PM)

Since long ago I only use the DVD format when there's no other choice. New pendrives are better by far in all aspects.

It is totally true that "in most markets you typically have an "understanding" between companies to avoid price wars and discourage competition". Even when we formally live in a free market, customer needs are in a very second place: having common interests, all big corporations walk in the same direction ("Birds of the same feather fly together") and ordinary people can't buy but what is offered. Very frequently new products are worse for the user than the old ones, and not only in the computing field. For instance, even when it is more secure a car with external bumpers, bumpers were silently withdrawn from all car models all over the world....
