  1. Review - MediaCoder

    0.6.0.3858 (Aug 27, 2007)

If you're going to be converting audio, Foobar2000 is the way to go. Much easier, and uses multi-core efficiently.

  2. Review - foobar2000

    0.9.4.4 (Aug 20, 2007)

Far and away the best audio player out there. It rips, converts to high-end codecs, like mp4/m4a, ogg, and flac, and plays any audio without any additions. Is the UI sparse? Ya. You can change it if you want to; I do. But for a 2MB install, tiny footprint, and total control for $0, this is a MUST have. It is the best software you haven't heard of, and it's free and open source.

Imagine the simplicity and coolness of WinAmp2, back in the day, carried forward. That's Foobar2000.

  4. Review - Adobe Soundbooth CS4

    Beta 3 (Apr 17, 2007)

Hey DudeBoyz, it's pretty clear that the beta is free, but expires. Grow up.

This is an excellent tool for the intended audience. It's all about creating background tunes for video, and fast. It's not Audition, or Audacity, and doesn't pretend to be. This is an audio toolbox for people that deal with video, and a very good one.

  5. Review - foobar2000

    0.9.4.3 Beta (Apr 16, 2007)

Foobar deals with tags easily, plays back at 24bit/96000 upsampling, and can assign keys to global shortcuts. I have F10 mapped to random, and it's very convenient.

It recaptures what Winamp2 did so well, but plays modern codecs, and is very pliable. Don't let the looks of the default player intimidate. If you don't run visualizations, this player is for you.

  6. Comment - Amid a perfect storm, Sirius XM faces a shareholder lawsuit

    0.9.4.3 Beta (Nov 4, 2008 - 3:31 PM)

"It's difficult to make the case for conspiracy against the competition when XM and Sirius had no competition prior to their merger."

You really have absolutely no credibility at all. The FCC wouldn't have approved an anti-competitive merger, would they? No. In fact, the most drawn out case in US history was EXACTLY about competition.

But hey, don't let facts and important stuff get in the way of your "news" story.

This site should be called "BetaOpinion".

  7. Comment - Perspective: On the ground with Apple's MacBook Air

    0.9.4.3 Beta (Jan 16, 2008 - 6:08 PM)

For the record, the "PERSPECTIVE" tag was entered AFTER my rant.

You guys make of that what you will. I'm no fanboy of anyone. But I can assure you that at the time this was posted, and when I read it, there was ABSOLUTELY no reference to "PERSPECTIVE", "OP/ED", or anything that made it something not a news story.

At least it was corrected, though I still contend that this was a known OpEd, and they should have had it as such from its publication.

    0.9.4.3 Beta (Jan 15, 2008 - 6:56 PM)

Bye bye, BN -- I've had enough of your "coverage". You just left the RSS. It's a shame. You dig up good stuff now and again... that is when you don't just copy from Slashdot. But if you had any integrity, you'd start reporting the "news" from a position not pretending to be neutral.

You guys report tech news like Fox reports political news.

Is this an article or OP/ED?

"It should be 'uber' easy for just about anyone to use," said one Apple employee with a rather curious facial piercing. "We want everyone to be able to sit down and use this laptop without getting frustrated."

And who are you, Mr. Hatamoto, to be passing judgment? In case you missed Day 1 of journalism school, reporters REPORT the news.
