  2. Review - Maxthon (v3)

    3.0.19.2000 (Dec 11, 2010)

Overall a really great browser, but it's still missing one critical feature from Maxthon2: URL Aliases. Another problem is the half-done Magic Fill which is missing "match url" and fine-field granularity from M2.

  4. Review - Picasa for Windows

    3.5.0 Build 79.69 (Oct 2, 2009)

I'm starting to like this one better than ACDSee Pro 3.0 (also recently out)... Face recognition is such a damn amazing technology..... This will have to be integrated into the OS eventually with other semi/fully automatic tagging systems (for music with lyrics, videos/movies, audio recordings such as voicemails transcripts a la google voice, etc).

  5. Review - Memeo Share for Windows

    1.0.1505 (Mar 13, 2009)

Windows Live Sync by Microsoft is infinitely better...

  6. Comment - Should I renew my Skype number?

    1.0.1505 (Jun 22, 2011 - 8:03 PM)

I use my Skype # together with Google Voice. My GV forwards to my Skype # which means I can answer the call on the Skype client either on my laptop (if on/available) or on my android phone. Both devices ring together if both are available. I can also talk on one Skype "line" and answer another incoming call on the other device without interrupting the original call.

The other great thing about having a Skype # is that when I'm overseas, I use a cheap local SIM card with a cheap data plan and get/make calls using Skype. The folks in the States call my GV #, which forwards to my Skype on my android phone in the other country. When overseas I can also make free calls to the US through GV. It calls my Skype # (on laptop/wifi and/or cell/3G) and only then completes the call.

If you have a shared-min (and especially shared-data) family plan, using GV+Skype will save you a lot on the minutes. When home, you could answer the Skype calls on wifi without using any cell plan voice mins or data.

In other words, yes, you should renew your Skype # if you're using it intelligently.

  7. Comment - LulzSec reveals the stupidest passwords on the planet

    1.0.1505 (Jun 17, 2011 - 9:58 PM)

You seem very upset. Is that because you use the same "uncrackable" password for your bank account and your PlayStation Network account? hehehehe

Uncrackable passwords by definition are a whole lot of random characters used ONLY for that one account. Thus the damage of them being discovered is quite insignificant.

  8. Comment - When do you want Windows 8?

    1.0.1505 (Jun 16, 2011 - 8:35 AM)

There's a decent chance a RDBFS will finally make it to Windows 8.

  9. Comment - Well, here's one way to get 3G Video Chat on the T-Mobile Nexus S

    1.0.1505 (Jun 16, 2011 - 8:07 AM)

If the carrier subsidizes the phone, it can be understandable that they'll enforce some restrictions on the device they "customized". But I agree, carriers will eventually NOT be allowed to prevent tethering, video chat, or anything else on fully-owned devices (once contract is up, or if bought straight up).

Until that day, I'm planning soon to switch exclusively to VoIP with a MiFi/similar box on 4G, which I'll have to carry around together with my (probably) android smartphone.

  10. Comment - Well, here's one way to get 3G Video Chat on the T-Mobile Nexus S

    1.0.1505 (Jun 16, 2011 - 7:56 AM)

A racist towards the race of deafs or the race of homoshekshuals? hehehehehehe

I'm very much pro PRIVATE video chats for hearing&deaf people, regardless of the sexual orientation of the participants.
