  1. Review - BlindWrite

    4.4 (May 5, 2003)

Blindwrite copies some things Alcohol/Clone CD cannot. Likewise Alcohol copies things Blindwrite cannot. DiskJuggler copies some things that all 3 cannot copy (in reality, clonecd is the easiest to use but copys the fewest number of CD's perfectly). It's all about using the right tool for the job, and currenly none of them do it all.

  2. Review - 7-Zip (32-bit)

    2.30 Beta 31 (Apr 29, 2003)

Wow, those are some pretty crazy compression options. Definitely up the compression ratio, but you weren't kidding about the RAM usage and speed. Oh well, that's what ram is for, thanks!

  3. Review - Popcorn

    1.36 (Apr 20, 2003)

Junk. No SSL support, and with so many mail servers moving to secure connections only Popcorn can't even check your mail any more, and they have no plans to add SSL support so it's time to move over to iScribe.

  4. Review - Winamp Lite

    2.91 (Apr 18, 2003)

WHY DO THEY HAVE TO SCREW UP EVERYTHING! Now they are dragging the winamp 2.x series into the muck where the 3.x series already is! The same thing happened with ACDSee 2.x was great, 3.x started getting bloated and 4.x/5.x were just jokes, trying to be photoshop just like winamp is trying to be windows media player. I guess 2.81 will be the best version of winamp ever made, may it live forever!

  5. Review - Alcohol 52%

    1.4.3.410 (Apr 13, 2003)

I think what you meant was Alcohol 120%, not 100%, and THAT is a good program. Between it and blindwrite (clonecd no longer necessary) you can copy *almost* anything. But this 52% version, i just don't understand why anyone would mess with it with better freeware options available.

Every shareware author just tries to squeeze out a few bucks from people when they know there are better free solutions. Sort of like how DVD Shrink (Freeware) is sinking DVD2One (shareware). Cheers.
