  1. Review - Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

    Consumer Preview (Mar 4, 2012)

The UI sucks and it only took 4 hours from install to get a blue screen and constant reboots. Back to Windows 7 and I will most likely skip windows 8, just like I did with Vista. Why put a tablet OS on a Desk Top? Why would a desktop user want to use a smudged up touch screen while running a graphics program. Yes I said program, not app! Some people actually work on their computers so give us something we can work with. Those that use a computer as a toy, enjoy your Windows 8.

  2. Review - Mozilla Firefox (v3.6) for Windows

    3.6.3 (Apr 6, 2010)

I love this browser because I have it customized just the way I like it. Unfortunatly its performance just keeps getting slower. Due to the slow performance I find myself using Chrome more and more. Chrome might not have the extensions I have grown used to in FF, but this is a compromise I have been willing to accept in order to gain performance. Come on Mozilla, if Chrome can run smoothly, why can't FF. Two stars for you, for lack of keeping up with the compatition.

  3. Review - CDBurnerXP

    4.2.4.1322 (Apr 7, 2009)

As far as I am concerned, this is the best free burning program available. I have been using it for several years. I tried the other free programs but always stay with this one. I too don't understand these slow comments. Just what is suppose to be slow about CDBurner? It works great in XP and I am currently running it in Windows 7 without a hitch. If you use Nero then consider switching to this if you don't want all the bloat of Nero.

  4. Review - Avira Free Antivirus

    8.2.00.337 (Nov 30, 2008)

When AVG released version 8, I went looking for a new free anti virus program. I tried them all and finally settled on this one. It has the best detection results of them all and does it with the least amount of resource usage. What more could you ask for? I give it a 4 rating because of one bug. When the check for rootkits is activated the automatic scan hangs about half way into the scan. By default the check for rootkits is not activated and I guess this is why. When this bug is fixed, I will definately be rating this program a 5.
PS. I also found the nag screen very annoying, so I deactivated it. Now I consider this truly freeware instead of adware.

  5. Review - Google Chrome for Windows

    0.2.149.27 Beta (Sep 2, 2008)

Runs pretty fast. Nice. Without extensions I will not switch from FF. For that matter I haven't been able to configure any other browser with the features I use in FF. Until that happens I won't be changing. Don't get me wrong, I don't think FF is perfect, especially memory usage. Way to high.

Google did a good first try. Lets see how it develops.

Love the speed of this browser. I'm concerned about all the hard drive activity it is doing when it is idle. Anyone have any idea why it is doing this. I have uninstalled it for this reason. It is up to something but I don't know what. I do know that it is Chrome though. Lack of addon's like No Squint and AdBlock are a deal breaker. I will try it again after the next release.

TMW, they all have their merits but none have got it just right yet. We use the one that is best suited to our needs.

  9. Comment - California legislature moves on cyber-bullying measures

    0.2.149.27 Beta (Aug 16, 2008 - 10:18 AM)

cousinkix, did you actually read the article? Where do you get the idea that California is trying to police the rest of the world. It is a state law that would apply to California only. I guess you got confused by the mention of Canadian law.

  10. Comment - California legislature moves on cyber-bullying measures

    0.2.149.27 Beta (Aug 15, 2008 - 11:18 AM)

That goes for just about anything associated with cyber. Look at some of the jail terms or fines imposed on cyber crimes. Armed criminals get off easier than some of these kids that hack or download. Shouldn't the punishment fit the crime? Should someone have to face financial ruin because of a few songs downloaded? Or should a kid hacking go to jail for years ruining his or her life for what could be considered no more than just joy riding in an earlier time. Something is out of whack here.
