  1. Review - YamiPod for Windows

    1.8 (May 9, 2010)

YamiPod works great on my older Nano but, sadly, it lacks ability to sync on the newest iPods such as the Touch. I find it easy to use and small in disk space required. There needs to be a better FAQ/help page but the info is there if you look for it. That said, there is a Linux version I also use on an old computer running Debian so it gives me the same interface with either OS.

Yami works as advertised (on the models it says it supports). Here's hoping that a newer version will soon sync with the latest iPods.

  2. Review - SharePod

    3.7 (May 9, 2010)

SharePod 3.9.5 is available (as of 6 Apr 2010) and it works great with the iPod Touch.

This is a great program. Easy to use and handles all my needs to backup/sync my music with out the need of iTunes. There are some nice features on ITunes but I do not like how big it has become and there is no way to install it with out items I do not want/need such as QuickTime.

Have used YamiPod with a Nano for years but it lacks the ability to work on the newer versions of iPods such as Touch or iPhone.

  3. Review - PerfectDisk Professional

    10 Build 93 (Feb 2, 2009)

PerfectDisk seems slow to me. But I guess you get that when working on 1TB drives. Other programs like Defraggler & JKDefrag are a bit faster.

I am not a fan of the new "ribbon" style menu but it is easy to use once you work with it a while. Although I have had no problems with PD as such , I give it a 4 for performance and price. It seems anything is better than the built in defrager Microsoft includes.

  4. Review - AnyDVD HD

    6.5.2.2 (Jan 30, 2009)

6.5.2.2 is out and what I am reviewing.

AnyDVD works as advertised. I have yet to feed it anything it cannot handle and have never had a problem with it.

I quit using InCD many years ago so I can not speak to its problems with AnyDVD , but Slysoft warns against using InCD. I switched to DVD-RAM so I get a similar effect of InCD but with out any problems others have complained about. It sucks when things don't work after a software/hardware changes but it happens, all too often. Maybe those who have a problem with InCD can switch to a USB flash drive (cheap) or maybe to DVD-Ram (not so cheap) or maybe turning off AnyDVD can help. Obviously a situation exists where there needs to be a change in perspective of what is wanted/needed vs. what you have to work with.

As for the price ... yea , the new dollar-euro exchange rate hurts and the 1year/2year/3year/4year/lifteime pricing is (way) high. If you compare it against the price of a box set (or two) being replaced , then not so terrible. Maybe the pricing scheme will fail ... maybe Slysoft will fail ... maybe someone makes something open source or free.

All I care about right now is that IT WORKS GREAT.

  5. Review - AnyDVD HD

    6.5.1.5 (Jan 16, 2009)

Never had a problem with AnyDVD. It simply works, and it works well.

I purchased mine with the lifetime update(grades) when the dollar was at a better exchange rate with the the Euro but I would purchase it again today if I hadn't already done so. You can still get it with the lifetime updates , the offer has been extended 'till January 18 2009. Maybe they will extend it again ... maybe not. Oh yea ... there is a 20% discount available as well.

As with most things in life , there are options when it comes to backing up your DVDs. I have not tried other free/pay decrypters and see no need to when I am so happy with what I have got. I have not purchased a Blu-ray player yet but I did get the HD software upgrade just in case.

This software has been flawless for me. Highly recommended!
