  1. Comment - Acer: PC Industry Disappointed with Vista

    (Jul 24, 2007 - 5:38 PM)

This is the perfect opportunity to give an appropriate shout out to Linux...

Guess what, your Mac you hate so much is where quite a few original concepts in Windows stemmed from. Microsoft innovates by acquiring -- there are more technologies in Windows that were licensed or developed out of house, than ones actually R&D in-house. I'd link references, but it's just common sense if you follow actual news of the acquisitions by MS.

Before Microsoft stuck it's foot in the door for several fields, there were other main players. Why would a "Techie" NOT complain about having now a new proprietary player/standard that sets artificial limitations, which previously didn't exist "in the industry?" Bill is an excellent businessman, not a software programmer. That's why MS gets bashed. Last time I checked, recurring fees bring in more money than one-time purchase sales!

Don't get me wrong -- the industry definitely needed a nudge and a big player to force competitive innovation, I thank MS everyday I use my Linux desktop cause without such a need to develop a free alternative standard, most of the software I use on my box wouldn't be as aggressively developed!

  2. Comment - PS3 Price Cut in US Only Temporary

    (Jul 14, 2007 - 12:12 PM)

Anyone could pull figures out their asses, last time I was at my local BestBuy there were no 360s available along with Wiis. But guess what WAS there? Two PS3s which one of the game reps quoted "No one wants to pay that price for an unproven console."

While the Playstation line is definitely proven, this console is not. Forcing Blu-Ray was a classic Sony move, and for that I'm not purchasing a PS3. I won't support them with a penny of my money even if that fancy new blackbox has pretty graphics or not.

Please cite your sources if you're going to quote them. Otherwise it's all hearsay.

  3. Comment - Microsoft Concedes to Google and States, Will Change Vista Search

    (Jun 23, 2007 - 10:57 AM)

    Ubuntu.

    From a desktop:

    Applications -> Add/Remove..
Other -> Search & Indexing (beagle)

By default Beagle was not installed on my Breezy distribution, and by default the FindUtils package (which includes Find, Locate, Which(?), etc..) is optional in Linux in general. Try to argue that Linux locks me, or anyone else in proprietary choices!

This is definitely fair play for Microsoft. They should be writing modular systems, not bulky bloated feature rich software. The 80's are over MS! License software platforms, you make more money out of licensing anyways!

  4. Comment - MySpace Data Used To Catch Seven Sex Offenders

    (Jun 16, 2007 - 10:33 AM)

One of my friends is a registered sex offender in Florida. He was 18 at the time he broke up with his 17 year old girlfriend, and in the heat of the moment of the break-up he "popped one last feel." Unfortunately for him, her dad was a police officer and knew where to look up the law. Sure enough, it was a sex crime. She didn't say no to him, but a week afterwards "it left her uncomfortable." While the truth is she just wanted to get back at him for breaking her heart, and since he was 18 and she was a minor, he went to jail. Oh the irony of the 'ol saying "jail bait" eh?

So as you can imagine, just meeting friends through MySpace is nearly impossible for my friend, let alone the struggle of getting a creditable job. He didn't molest a four year old, he didn't rape a single mother, he just made a poor decision out of distaste that has ruined his life.
