  1. Review - Google Chrome for Windows

    5.0.356.2 Beta (Mar 23, 2010)

Switched to it in Windows and Linux. For Mac Safari is still the best since it's native there and based on the same WebKit as Chrome is. Google Chrome works great for me - very fast and has everything I need.

  2. Review - BurnAware Free

    2.2.8 Beta (Feb 3, 2009)

Great application which suits the most home users which need to create data discs and burn ISO or DVD/BD video.

  3. Review - ImgBurn

    2.4.2.0 (Feb 3, 2009)

Great application and great alternative to the bloated commercial software. I believe it is appropriate for 99% of home users which usually need to backup data and burn ISO-images or DVD/BD video. Takes five!

  4. Review - Opera for Windows

    9.50 Build 9841 Beta (Mar 18, 2008)

Very good browser, but I am a Firefox man :-)

BTW, how do they get that font smoothing on the screen shot? I see that Opera menu does not have smoothed font, and window itself does, which means that it's not just Windows ClearType turned on. I downloaded and installed this beta to check it out, but I've got just usual non-smoothed text.

  5. Review - Pidgin for Windows

    2.1.0 (Jul 30, 2007)

Great piece of software. I tried it under FreeBSD 6.2, but I don't use it because of one problem. When I try to "unblock" buddies (include them to visible list) I get error message, which says it cannot be done, due my contact list is overloaded. But I can do it using another IMs with the same accounts.

If it were fixed, I would use Pidgin without hesitation, because it has great "look and feel" which reminds me om Mac OS X's Adium and supports all the protocols I need.

  6. Comment - International iPad debut paves Apple's roadmap for even higher market cap

    2.1.0 (May 28, 2010 - 1:33 PM)

What an irony! iPad users will not be able to see this article's cool iPad debut graphs using their iPads, since graphs are in Flash, which is not working on iPads! :)

  7. Comment - The Windows era is over

    2.1.0 (May 28, 2010 - 1:13 PM)

That's wrong, I am not a win-fan, I even don't work in Windows. But I hope you posted your cool comment like anything else you do using your trusty iPhone/iPad rather than a computer?

  8. Comment - The Windows era is over

    2.1.0 (May 28, 2010 - 11:14 AM)

OK, Mr.Wilcox, Windows era is over (BTW, why not "Windows, Mac and Linux era is over?"). In fact writing articles like this does not require anything more than just a text editor with a tool to attach a blurry picture to the text, it can be done even with iPad. But don't forget there are (and always will be) people out there which need a real computer to get work done. Do you expect them to migrate to $2000 Apple Macs (don't forget, you wrote just *Windows* era is over)? I don't think so.

One more thing. The reason of my comments. I've been reading BetaNews for about 8 years. Can't do it anymore because of these trolling articles. Got to switch to osnews.com :(

  9. Comment - 10 reasons I dumped iPhone 3GS for Nexus One

    2.1.0 (May 26, 2010 - 6:42 AM)

Come on, Mr.Wilcox, confess, you dumped iPhone just because it's "porn-free" :)

  10. Comment - Patent pool may be in the works for 'free' VP8 codec

    2.1.0 (May 23, 2010 - 9:18 AM)

I think that "software patents" were introduced to stimulate developers. Now they are depressing the whole IT industry.

Just wonder, what if Pythagoras had patented his theorem...
