  1. Comment - Commentary: Apple's Switch Hit

    (Jun 28, 2002 - 6:00 PM)

YOU REALLY ARE INSANE! Ha! Judging from your posts throughout this entire day, you just wasted your day.

By the way, if Mac was used as much as PCs were, there would be tons of viruses for Mac's too. Yeah, there aren't really any for UNIX. I realize that. But thats because in UNIX you generally never work as root so you can't accidentally let viruses screw you up. So, fine. But you think grandma is going to know how to go to the computer and make herself root and install new software and whatnot. No. But thats what MOST Mac users are all about. They don't ever install new software. They are NOT power users. New Windows OSs are far more secure than the older versions. Try using one. I don't get virses. Its true I hated Windows 95/98/Me. They were terribly horrible. But 2000/XP are so far superior, its rediculous.

    Are you insane?

You would rather just hit the power button on the computer and have it delete anything you might have been working on and shutdown? Besides, new PCs let you do just that anyway. Press the power button and they log you out and shut you down nicely and quickly without having to click start/shut down if you dont want to.

Furthermore, the "PC's are unstable" argument is no longer valid. Have you ever run Windows 2000 or XP? My XP machine never crashes. Period. It only gets restarted when I do it on purpose. New versions of Windows are very very stable.

  3. Comment - Opera Sets Sights on Netscape, Linux

I think its pretty interesting that just as Opera is adding support for Netscape style plugins, Microsoft is disabling support for them.

Microsoft can do whatever they want, but I think it was a really bas**** move to not give advance warning to Netscape-style plugin developers that they would be dropping support for them. This would have given them time to fix their software instead of making such a big deal out of it and having users unable to use the plugins.

  5. Comment - Microsoft Gears Up Windows 2000 SP3 Beta

    (Aug 21, 2001 - 5:07 PM)

i was just about to write that. that is definately NOT easier than double clicking your mouse button on setup.exe!

although, win2000 sp2 did screw my computer up. after i installed it, my computer did nothing when i started it but show windows background. no taskbar or icons. i'm not saying microsoft is perfect which they obviously are not!

but you do have to take into account that there ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO AREN'T EXPERTS IN COMPUTERS! i hate when people reason things like, if you can't figure this out, then you shouldn't be using a computer. guess what, microsoft designs software more for the public instead of for computer people like us. no matter how easy you think it is to recompile a kernel, my uncle bob and cousin george are never going to want to do it, and they really shouldn't have to learn! they should be able to click on a file and not worry about anything.
