  1. Review - The GIMP

    2.6.1 (Oct 11, 2008)

    Wow!! After all the UI complaints, they have finally improvised the UI. What's more, its highly customizable. So, if you were a fan of the old interface, you can set the "Hint for the toolbox" and "Hint for other docks" as "Normal Window". If you want a UI like Photo$hop, set them as "Utility Window". These settings are available under "Edit" >> "Preferences" >> "Window Management".
    @Galifray: Just check that these settings are set to "Utility Window". This is the default setting in GIMP 2.6x, but maybe you had some setting left over from the previous installation. Ideally utility windows should appear on top of the main window.

  2. Review - OpenOffice.org for Windows

    3.0.0 RC4 (Oct 6, 2008)

    @mjm01010101: It asked you to close Vuze? What's the exact error message? Which JRE are you using? I am using OOo and Vuze at the same time.

  3. Review - Ubuntu

    8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) Beta (Oct 3, 2008)

    @thartist:
    Can you be a bit more specific? As you might be very well aware, the focus of distributions like Ubuntu is on the user and on usability. So, could you detail what kind of usability issues did you face?

  4. Review - CCleaner for Windows

    2.12.660 (Sep 29, 2008)

    @BarneyR: Well for the simple reason that this application exists due to a shortcoming in Window$. There does exist a disk cleanup utility in Window$, but it is seriously lacking in features. Isn't an operating system expected to clean up the mess created by itself and other softwares?

    Even I'm having problems during the download phase of the installation.

    Wow this article is sure to start the same old fanboy wars. Hey where is Mastertech? I can literally visualize him sitting somewhere with a smirk on his face and as he reads this article and yelling "SEE I TOLD YOU FIREFOX HAS FLAWS". Funny no comment by him yet.

  10. Comment - Google to IE Users: Try Firefox

    9.0.0.1912 (Apr 27, 2006 - 9:37 AM)

    I was referring to Yahoo Mail Beta, which requires IE or FF. It reverts to the default Yahoo Mail if I use either Opera or IE7Beta.

    Gmail too has certain rendering issues with Opera. Quick Contacts (GTalk) is not available and also the Reply and Forward actions do not function properly until the contents of the entire mail message has been downloaded.
