As a response to a review by rogeld:
In the free version, you may use 768 bit public keys (not 512 as he mentions), which are actually quite strong and unlikely to be broken in the next decade. On top of that - all data is actually encrypted with 128 bit symmetric encryption (using the US NIST's Advanced Encryption Standard). All up - encryption out of the box is pretty good.
In several areas it is ahead of other IM products, for example: encryption, offline messaging, rich text messages with colors, fonts etc).
