  1. Comment - AMD to combat 'Intel Inside' with 'Who cares?'

This is great news for developers (and end-users on a whole)

It means a developer can target his/her application or game to a specific tier, and not have to worry as much about the underlying components in the testing process. Sure it won't cut down the variety of components underneath and therefore all of the incompatibilities, but as long as there isn't too much of a gap between the performance of systems in a given tier, it means the developer can test on a single vision system and have an idea of how it will run for a great deal of the consumers that use these types of computers. Any problems after this stage can be ironed out, since they'll be the "special" test case where the program fails for a small amount of users.

Maybe it'll even pull some of the game developers who have gone console exclusive back in (as long as they haven't signed an exlusivity agreement for additional perks of course)
Consoles have an allure for developers because they only need to test on one system and they instantly know how it will perform for their customers.

I personally wouldn't shop by this method, but I'm a developer, so I typically need something more than the average consumer - however, next time one of my relatives asks what type of computer they should buy next, I'll probably point to a PC with a vision sticker (depending on what they need to do with it)

  2. Comment - Windows Home Server OS Now on Sale

Wow!! I've finally found a reason to sign up to betanews.

I read this page, and in the short time it's taken I've literally started to hate someone!! I mean really, hate someone to the point where I'll actually leave a comment! (which is tough to do - the activation email has been sitting unused in my inbox since 11/15/06)

    Good Job!!

Oh and there's some new software - that's er.. interesting...
