Google Apps technology is great especially Gmail integration, the problem is that only customer care will open a support ticket they are just receiving calls with no technical backround.
However in your case, I would say that it seems to be your fault, you pressed the auto renew option, and than asked for refund or change the option to monthly subscription. (I think many people would try to stop the auto renew if they couldn't change they payment to monthly)
The good thing is that Google Apps technology is mature and provide most features,
and in most case you can find support online (on Google help and forums)
Good customer support for Google Apps is a key element that still being missed.
