2007 Beta (10.0.0.1) Updated (Sep 1, 2006)
Actually, I was quite impressed after installing this Beta, as they've now reduced the number of processes to 4, and cut memory usage down to a paltry 10-20mb. The UI is now so much snappier and the product just feels so much leaner, quicker, and quite honestly, the bloat of the past is gone. If you haven't tried it yet, and have been burned in the past, give this Beta a try. I think you'll be surprised at what they've accomplished to address the 'bloat' concern.

The public beta was refreshed recently and is now a 30-day trial that doesn't require any product activation key.

2007 Beta (10.0.0.1) (Jul 7, 2007 - 2:26 PM)
Yep, you make a valid point. The performance has definitely improved but probably not as much as some here would like (especially those people using NOD, AVG, Kaspersky, etc). And, Symantec really has to nail those detection rates and gain the top spot in all detection tests, otherwise they'll never win back their customers who left due to previous versions' bloat. As it stands, being in the top 5 doesn't cut it...they gotta take it all or don't bother.
2007 Beta (10.0.0.1) (Jul 6, 2007 - 7:41 PM)
Yep, the 2006 versions and earlier for Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security were complete pieces of bloated crap. Symantec really fixed the performance starting with the 2007 versions and made huge leaps of improvement. But they still have a long ways to go to get back their previous customers that suffered through the pre-2007 bloated crap.
