    They can't do this because different earbuds/headphones treat the signal they receive differently. While you might get 98db output from the packaged earbuds, Sony, Koss, Bose, etc., headphones will have a different output level. It may only be a few db off, up or down, but it will be different. Which would lead to more stupid law suits. It would, however, be nice to know the output level on the fly.
