  1. Review - NetStumbler

    0.4.0 (Apr 23, 2004)

From the description this sounds more like a tool for a maliscious spammer/hacker to use as he drives around, than a legit program. Is there a non-nefarious use for this that I'm missing?

  2. Review - Quintessential Media Player

    Development Build 74 (Mar 26, 2004)

It has an EQ. It has Playlist manipulation. And if you insist on running 2400x1billion mode on your 24 inch p****, er moniter, then go download a bigger skin if the default one is too small. your "average joe" is just about migrated to 1024x768 size, finally. 800x600 should have died along time ago. There is zero reason to whine about how a skinable app looks. Don't like it? find another skin, or make your own.

  3. Review - WinRAR (32-bit)

    3.30 Beta 1 (Nov 17, 2003)

WinRar has an interface? wow. Heh, no not realy. But 90-99% of what I do with winrar I do from the rclick/context menu.

Need to uncompress an archive? rclick it, select "Extract Here", or if you think there are multiple files in the .rar/zip "Extract to \"

Need to compress a folder/file/range of files? Select and Rclick it/them, choose "Add to Archive", select your options (compression lvl, solid, SFX, et all.), hit ok, and you're done.

  4. Review - Ogg Vorbis Win32 SDK

    Beta 4 (Jun 15, 2001)

If you knew this has been out for so long, why didn't you drop betanews a note telling them about it months ago?

Note to folks: (pretty obvious, but....) Betanews can only cover what they know about. If you see a new beta of something, and they dont have it up yet, drop them a line telling them about it.

  5. Review - Winamp Transparency Plug-in

    (Apr 16, 2001)

Actually, actually, actually (getting a jump on the next guy!) Some of us kill the tray icon because everyprogram and thier brother thinks its cewl to make a tray icon. I know if I didn't kill all the ones for the programs I use, I'd have like 15-20 up.

The memory saving, while minimal, is nice too.

Also, not sure if this works on 2k, but if you set winamp to have a standard taskbar place (with or without the systray icon) it will show up on the taskmanager.

I *think* the code that the winamp guys use to make winamp not use the taskbar inherently takes it out of the taskman also...
