  4. Review - The GIMP

    2.7.0 (Feb 24, 2010)

I'm using GIMP quit a bit now since I can't afford a newer version of Adobe Photoshop anymore. GIMP does not reach get close to Photoshop yet, but for the normal user it is a very good alternate and since it is Open Source it is for free. For the Photoshop fans, there is a GIMP Shop available that is supposed to have the layout of Photoshop so the former Photoshop user can get easier used to GIMP . I have not tried it yet.

  6. Comment - Adobe's Creative Suite 5 packs in tons of new features

    2.7.0 (Apr 21, 2010 - 11:56 AM)

I'm sure CS5 will be another improvement of Adobe's most popular software package.
A lot of people talk about the free image editing software GIMP.
Well, I work with both programs, GIMP and an older version of Photoshop. Gimp does not reach on Photoshop in my honest opinion and still, I do prefer Gimp because one important fact that will make me not purchasing another Photoshop version or even the entire CS5 package...Simply THE PRICE!
Adobe's prices for software are to me out of this world. I just don't make money enough that I could afford spending a couple thousand dollars on a software package and in my honest opinion Adobe could sell x-times more if the price was right and more affordable for the normal dude. Then they neither wouldn't have to spend tons of money on trying to make their software more resistant to hackers, which as we all know has not been from too much of a success. So far every single package was hacked and available on certain websites for download or at least the cracks for it.
