   I like Macs, and here are 15+ applications that I might have running simultaneously at any typical moment...
   
   Mail
   Mozilla
   iTunes
   SAP GUI
   Excel
   Preview
   Sherlock
   Company meeting scheduler app
   Company directory app
   Address Book
   iChat
   Terminal
   FileMaker
   Exploder (Explorer)
   Word
   Timbuktu
   
   That's 15... I could also have open any of the apps below, though probably not as often and/or for as long...
   PowerPoint
   Quicktime
   System Preferences
   Print Center
   Stuffit
   Acrobat
   iPhoto
   iCal
   iSync
   Real Audio
   Media Player
   Tetris Shareware Game
   
   Moral of the story: It's not at all far fetched for someone to have 15 apps open simultaeously on a Mac. It's not at all far fetched for someone to be satisfied with system performance with 15 apps open simultaneously on a Mac.
   
   This isn't meant to be a flame or anything; just wanted to clarify that this is something that is indeed done and is done without significant performance reduction.
