  1. Review - Freemake Video Downloader

    2.1.6.1 (Jun 30, 2011)

I will give this a ONE until they explain what exactly "FreemakeUtilsService" is and why it installs as a service on my computer and runs in the background at all times. It is installed silently, without user permission or interaction, and without notice of any kind.

  2. Review - Trillian

    5.0.0.22 Beta (Aug 4, 2010)

The screenshot needs to be updated here at Fileforum. Visit the the website for a better look at the screenshots using native Windows' APIs. This new version is fast, smooth, and incredibly feature filled. Truly inspired Social Panels make using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Foursquare easy and convenient.

The changes in this version are amazing logical and well thought out. Not to mention it is simple and clean.

  3. Review - FotoMix

    7.1 (Jun 29, 2010)

"# Latest Changes- Fix a bug in handling of advertisements"

    Adware, not freeware. Enough said.

  4. Review - AnVir Task Manager Free

    6.2 (Dec 4, 2009)

This is not freeware, it is crippleware that nags when using many of the program's features. It also displays an advertisement to upgrade to the free version. Its features are not new or interesting, and there are many other completely free alternatives with a less clunky interfaces. Process hacker comes to mind, as well as Extended task Manager By Extensoft.

There really needs to be a better way to report this type of unabashed deception to make money. Maybe a crippleware classification?

  5. Review - Weather Pulse

    2.2.4.1 (Nov 16, 2009)

Same crap, different version, few minor changes to keep trying to make money off of this crapware. I wish there were a ZERO stars rating. Be sure to read all the reviews below. Again, same garbage with no real improvements. Still trying to make money by passing this off as freeware when it is not. WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL.

  6. Comment - Trillian for Windows users, whack your Linux and Mac friends -- you get pro features free

    2.2.4.1 (May 11, 2011 - 9:25 PM)

It actually does lie with Skype's API in this instance. If you search the Cerulean Studios' forums, there are quite a few discussions on this fact.

  7. Comment - 3 years and 1 million boxes later, Roku players finally come to nationwide retail

    2.2.4.1 (Mar 30, 2011 - 8:36 AM)

This is WONDERFUL news. I love my two Roku boxes! If there were a reliable LEGAL source of networks such as the CW, Fox Etc that showed current episodes, I would no longer need cable. As it stands, there is so much LEGAL and licensed content on the Roku box that I almost never need to watch cable.

The Roku boxes have been nothing but win for my family. They just work, and perfectly.

  8. Comment - Verizon to offer iPhone users $30 unlimited data plan

    2.2.4.1 (Jan 25, 2011 - 8:08 PM)

I wonder if this will include tethering use? Verizon's iPhone includes a wireless router app for up to 5 devices.

  9. Comment - Grey Areas: Accessing Hulu for free in the age of Hulu Plus

    2.2.4.1 (Jan 14, 2011 - 6:43 PM)

PlayOn "scrapes" trademarked and copyrighted content and charges for it. PlayOn takes that content, formats or transcodes it, then serves it to other devices. They are making money off the content of others. Not only that, but PlayOn encourages users to create 'plugins' and 'scripts' to steal the content of other's web sites. Plugin creators are now even charging for these questionable plugins, they rip the content or 'placeshift' it, then charge you for the plugin to rip the content from a site they are not authorized to rebroadcast for.

So, you pay a subscription to Playon for content they did not create or license, then on top of that you pay for a third party plugin to steal even more content from the creator or owner.

This practice is in the same bucket with downloading pirated movies and music. You are just using the software to steal copyrighted content, and PlayOn makes money off it.

It is not like using your TV for a monitor, it is theft.

  10. Comment - AT&T should shut up about Verizon iPhone

    2.2.4.1 (Jan 10, 2011 - 6:17 PM)

I agree with this article. When AT&T started offering the sub-$100 iPhone, the network in my area died. Unable to send text, MMS or make and receive calls. Here is my story:

    http://consumerist.com/2...er-with-no-service.html

I went with Verizon and have mobile broadband and service everywhere, without a hiccup.
