  1. Review - SyncBackSE

    5.9.0.13 (Mar 19, 2010)

Good workhorse. Can use a tweak here and there in my opinion, but it is mature and well supported and that's what matters.

  2. Review - Bvckup

    1.0.0.349 Beta (Mar 17, 2010)

This one looks promising. It just a directory cloning tool, but they optimized the hell out of it and it is really fast. The interface is nice too, clearly has lots of thought put in it.

Beta is missing some must-haves at the moment, the VSS support and running as a service.

  3. Review - FBackup

    4.4.194 (Mar 17, 2010)

The problem I have with a lot of backup programs is that they are trying too hard to be a Swiss Army knife of a file management. They sync, then clone, they mirror, compress, encrypt, etc. Perhaps it is the True Windows way and I have spent too much time with Unix with its simple utlities that do simple things.

FBackup is somewhat better in this regard as it is more focused, but still not quite what I was looking for. It is stable and well done. The usability can use some improvement as per other's comments. Also some essential features are missing, specifically the differential rsync-like file copying, which is a must for me.

  4. Review - Cobian Backup

    10.0.0.430 Beta (Mar 17, 2010)

I have used one of the earlier version, not this specific one, and it was OK. Not a marvel of engineering, a bit heavy as far as the program size goes, but it does what it is claimed to be doing.
