Hey there Qlib, sorry about your kernel ;-) I have never had any problems with dc++ (not even the last version). It's a great tool, certainly if you consider the amount of quality ripped movies I can download through it. Absolutely *the best* for downloading movies! |

DC++ does not make it easier to cheat. There are hacked versions of both clients which allow you to fake share. The DC++ team has removed many ways of cheating, and today I'd say it's on the same level as NMDC. DC++ is far better than NMDC at almost everything and it's constantly being developed and new versions are released. The description has been added to show number of hubs and open slots. Multihub is a nice feature and this way the abusers are easily spotted. Face it, DC++ is the better program, and you should grade the program and not its users. |

Wish they would turn the multi-select in the hub list back on so you can select multipal hubs to connect to at once |

Carefull! DC++ is a great program, but they need to have more security and privacy for users. Like hide the IP address of everyone. My friend got got a letter from his cable company, with a print out that the MPAA had, with a list of his shared files that violated the D.C.M.A. Im not bashing DC++ or blaming DC++, however they should put more measures to secure the program so everyone is annon.. |

DC++ is simply the best. It combines really good idea of John Hess Neo Modus DC giving DC the competitive edge over all other P2P programs with much better 'design' than the original. DC is more personal, therefore you not only download the files you need but first of all you communicate, get new friends and chat with them. Thanks to these communities you can download more (people are more devoted to share)and you can get access to other users' off-line files. And DC provides for much easier downloads of group of files than other P2P. You can download e.g. music albums rather than single song files. DC++ consumes less memory than DC, works faster, is more stable and is packed with additional features that makes life easy (including download from multiple sources). It is still possible to use a single instance of dc++ to connect to several hubs at once thanks to 'favorite hubs' feature but it's not as easy as in previous version - this is a proper solution as it eliminates leechers who want to download but not to contribute. And, last but no least, Neo Modus DC is not being developed any more - just look at the ate of the last file (Sep 2001) while DC++ is constantly getting better. The only thing that remains to be done is to have equally decent dc hub. This of Neomodus is obsolete while open source hubs are not yet anywhere close to Jacek Sieka dc++. So even best dc++ clients have its limits and "Hub is the limit" :-) |

DC++ Is da Bomb!!!!!!!! I am so happy I found DC++, I was alone for so long on WinMX and stuck with all the leechers. Then one Day I stumbled across the best thing that ever happened to downloading!!! I have since then started my own DChub (late421.no-ip.org) and have over 50 regulars with all the newest Stuff. And the company is awesome!! We ban all the Leeches and Fakers so U know U will get the right stuff. And this program is much better thant the other stuff like NMDC with it's add always flashing, or Kazaa with its spyware and most of all NO LEECHES like on WinMX! So if you have fast internet and want to get what U R lookin 4, then get DC++ and you will see the Light! like I did. So this gets my full support as far as p2p goes. And remember to pause for the cause at 4:20!!! |

I don't know what all the BS from these NMDC users is! I have had more NMDC users to fake slots and move files than with DC++! NMDC ALSO USES MORE SYSTEM RESOURCES! I USE DC++ ,...and probably share more than any NMDC user! (not faking or limiting slots and moving files) Anyone who really can sit there and say that crap,..doesn't know what they are talking about! |

In response to Niliaend post which stated "by adding 0.0.0.0 dcplusplus.sourceforge.net at the end of the host file in c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\ for xp" THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA IF YOU EVER WANT TO VISIT THE DC++ Homepage. You wil never get there, at least for that machine. However, i think that the bug you were mentioning has been fixed in this release so no ned to add that host entry. DC++ is one of the best p2p apps I know about. I dont know why anyone would ever use the original DC app, it is bloated, memory hole, and takes forever to load your file list. DC++ Rocks!!! |

Hey black_arse, your post proves that you haven't tested this programme hence it is off-topic. For all Windows users: dc++ is by far the best programme for downloading big files (especially avi's :-) Find the right hub, log on and start collecting... Only downside is the ridiculous share limits some hubs have. Who the hell got over 150 GB to share? Anyway, thumbs up, a lot better than the edonkey network. |

I think this is the best file sharing client available, and v0.22 is a great improvement. For instance, the download queue is displayed as a hierarchical folder view, you can change the download folder of files after they are placed in the download queue, and you can move entire directory trees at a time. Also, downloads are much faster on my system (I used to get a download rate about 1/3 of my upload rate). |

Very nice, I didn’t like direct connect before using this clone version. And I have to say, I like the layout now, it clean and easy to navigate too, but at the same time keeping the look of direct connect client. Lots of little extras like downloading small .txt files with out having to queue along with no adverts make this client a killer. If you’re a direct connect user, give this clone a go, it’ll be well worth it! |

i like dc++ i use an olde version that allows me to double click hubs to connect, i like this better than right click and connect because it allows me to go down the line and connect to multiple hubs fast. i share about 120gb of copyrighted mp3 on thenetwork and i go there to download the latest copyrighted movies so i can redistribute on other networks and ftp. i like to download copyrighted material over high bandwidth. currently as i write, i have ust completed downloading matrix reloaded, the italian job, x2 and more... its great, thanks DC++ and thanks File forum for making DC++ available for download in order to facilitate me getting pirtaed movies...!!! |

WRFan, you need a bigger harddrive if you want to get anything good and fast. Mirc is OK, but it lacks in the speed department because of long wait times. Maybe I dont' know the best places to go, but I prefer DC ++ because sometimes in mirc I'll wait a whole day before my download even begins. |

A great program wich I have used for a long time. What some people don't seem to understand is that how fast connection you need or how big your share has to be is decided by the hub operators. Don't blame the program for the rules set up by hub owners. Anyway, there is no point in using DC if you're stuck with a modem and a 20MB hard drive. What you need is more like a 10 Mb LAN connection and at least 20 GB shared files. Today DC is the fastest way to get everything you want! This is possible because the hubs are able to ban abusers and get rid of the leeches. |

As far as P2P programs goes, Dirrect connect is THE BEST! I havn't used Kazaa and all of those in a year, toward the end of my Kazaa use when I would try to download a video... it would NEVER be the real thing! And if I got lucky and actually got the right file, it would be GARBAGE!! Not only CAM, but HORRIBLE Cam versions. I have NEVER got a misleading video on DC++ If you havn't tried it, you will love it. A few things to fill you in on, if you havn't tried this program before. There are MANY different HUBS to go in... Each one with different paramenters... like you have to have 1 gig worth of files to trade... some more... some less.. You actually get better quality stuff on DC++ because it is true file traders on there... not some kids trying to F with people and send them a video of BARNY the dinosaur when you are trying to get 8 MILE.. If you don't have ALOT of files to trade, start off by trying to go into smaller hubs.. I know some people give up because they don't understand that they can't connect to the hubs because they aren't trading enough files, OR don't have enough upload slots open. The MORE you have to trade, the BETTER quality files you will get. Not to say that you won't get good quality in the smaller hubs... but you will have MUCH more to choose from in the larger hubs.. In some of the larger HUBS there are 100's TB... not Gb Terabites.. or however you spell it.. that is after Gig... A 1 Tb is 1,000 gig?? something like that. As far as getting music.. I like DC++ because there is an option to SEARCH for DIRECTORIES... like lets say you want to get the slim shady Lp, choose to search by directory, type in slim shady and there will be in some cases MANY of different ones to choose from, Will different connection types... etc.. now click on it to download and it will download THE WHOLE ALBUM, one file after the other. You don't have to go through and search for 20 different songs!! My number one choice right now is Torrents... for the quality, and speed... and DC++ is THE only P2P program that I will touch. |

okay, the last guy seems like he is complaining about the program cuz other people have dc++ and he doesnt. if you have this program, its great, you can download from as many people and hubs as you want and you dont have to open any slots for anybody to download from you!!!! but i suppose if you see other people with DC++ you should be mad at the person who is using it, and not at the program itself, cuz THIS PROGRAM ROCKS, even if it does make other people mad!!!........Now on the the review, the interface (although similar to Direct Connect) isnt nearly as good. its not as organized and not as many features like adding people to yer favorites list. but then again, there is the 1 thing about it that blows direct connect out of the water, and that is...being able to search many hubs at once and talk to and download from people from differnet hubs at the same time.....so far this prog works great, except now i can only seem to upload things, seems to always get a connection timeout now. too bad though, overall, i give this prog a 4.... |

a programs appearance is not all that's important... You cannot dumb down all the functions of a great program... I hate seeing reviews from people where the program receives a one!!!!! for just having an "ugly" interface.... this program looks just as good as others... if the interface works keep it... until some radical change in computing technology takes place, it'll probably be fine. |

well I'd rather be banned (dynamic IP rulez:)) than use this version... why? first the new status bars. imo they suck... who came up with this idea? second... it used 100% of cpu for the first couple of minutes after connecting to a hub (big one with 5600 users). previous version killed cpu for like only 10-20 seconds to read user list and display descriptions & stuff. last thing... the transfers on the bottom are now sorted like this... downloads, uploads, other things. I liked when dl & ul were separated by other things:) oh and a funny thing... I set sorting by status descending and u know what... upload is jumping from over to under downloads all the time. why is that? it's kinda annoying:) |

This is not really a P2P program (that term gets over used and is generaly associated with file trading these days) as it is based on a central server and a direct download (no meshing). This is nothing more then a IRC fserv on steroids and it comes with all the limitations and weaknesses of the very basic DCC protocal as well. While a clever idea it is just based on a protocal thats not realy up to the task. |

all the hype but really not so great . you will get this and then go back to what you were using .if you have no life , you will like this but its not very fast . really not worth it . i made my own hub also but after playing with this i didnt get many music files or anything . ive gotten more with mirc than this all the hype from intergeeks and no results . if you have a life , stay clear . best so far in p2p are these .. piolet , shareaza and soulseek .. |

Well as a sharing network DC is pretty exellent.. but as it REQUIRES sharing and so and so many slots.. and theres no way if limiting the outoing bandwidth thats in use.. to lets say 6kb instead of the full 12 i got.. this renders the DC network pretty much useless.. since ADSL is a asymmetric network whatever is being used upstream severely affects downstream and viceversa.. ive tried DC... and ive been hogged so hard with uploads.. that when my uploads have been running at 12kb/sec (wich is max for me) and my own downloads has been running at under half a KB/sec the nature of SHARING just isnt there.. so until they get a way of at least limiting it a bit.... this is total garbage for anyone on a asymmetric line.. therefore the 2.. as i'm absolutely dead sure that this could be put into the client.. it does have a feature thats supposed to deal with this but it doesnt help much.. i got maybe 1.1kb/Sec instead of 0.6kb/sec after enabling it.. |

Everyone who uses direct connect is tired of this crap. dc++ is a leech program that allows people to fake thier share amounts and limit thier upload speed. to 0 if they want. why doesnt dc++ get its own seperate peer to peer setup and stop leeching. This program gets a 1 score because it goes againt the original idea. FILE SHARING. THIS IS FILE STEALING WITH NO SHARING. |

I used to be a fan of DC++, but the last couple of builds thrash so much and push up utilization so much that it just kills my Athlon 1.7. I've read the DC++ forums; the apologists just say "it's hashing; live with it." NO THANKS!. |

if it wasn't for the hashing part i would've given it a 5of5 but when u try to share like 500 gigs u have to w8 for the program to hash it and that takes a whole day for this amount...i liked better the older versions without hashing |

They didn't fix the error which closed the program immediatelly after it opened (proxy stuff). This version brings more errors, for example now and then it warns me there is no disk in the dvd drive although it's not in the share. I've heard speculations about people being able to access every file on a computer, not just what is in share. The concept sounds nice, the whole DC++ is a good idea but if done poorely, it's not worth it. |

this version messes up the rest of the DC++'s ... I dunno whats wrong but every time I open it, the program exits after 3 seconds. It was running perfictly with the previous version. I have reinstalled this several times and it has done the same thing every time. For some reason now all the previous versions of DC++ are doing the same thing as the new one. Normally I would give this program 5 stars but tell this bug is fixed it gets one star... :( |

I totally agree with pdh! Last version 0.68 was bad and loaded with bugs, and this one can't even start! It crashes on startup every time... So back to v0.674... |

With each new version being less compatible with Win98, this program has gone from being the best to near useless. |

yeah theres nothing better then to search in several hubs for a file and find the same guy in all hubs with no slots. i just love it. hope they start enforceing the no dc++ rule better. |

DC++ is nice if you don't mind leechers... I found this program called FileShare(search for it).. much nicer... easy to use... the future of p2p. a great hometown community... try it and see what you think |

the amount of leechers in DC and that use DC++ makes a difference to me. I hate peeps who don't share and/or cheat their share so they can download from everyone without allowing uploads to others by blocking slots, allowing themselves to get into hubs with no slots, faking the amount of share, ... ect I could go on and on.. I had been using DC/DC++ for years and once DC++ come on the scene it ruined DC... no one chats anymore and you can never get a slot on anyone to download, because they are faking as much as possible to allow themselves to leech leech leech not to mention gettting into 50 hubs with one client allowing them to split 2 or 5 or 10 slots over those 50 hubs... yuck DC++ is nice if you don't mind leechers ... I found this program called FileShare(search for it).. much nicer... easy to use... the future of p2p. a great hometown community... try it and see what you think |

just countering niliads 6x post.. besides.. this DC++ version killed MY KERNEL DAMMIT..hasnt happened b4.. wtf is up? I'm returning to the previous version!!.. Personally I prefer a less adsl hostile sharing app.. DC++ is great for T1/T3/university kids but not very good for async connections.. neway.. it still has lots of stuff. |

quote: "to share files over the Internet without restrictions or limits" well, that's not true. you are not let in, unless you share very much. some hubs demand 1 gb, others 10 or 50 gb shared data. and I have 800 mbs - 1.5 gbs left on my harddisc. the dc people would just laugh and kick me if I tried to access. on irc people are more fair. for example, one one channel I often visit one has to share only one movie in order to get access to all servers. that's ok, one movie is just 300-700 mbs, then I have enough space left to download one movie. but for dc you have to buy a new harddisc to get access anywhere |

Recently the download speed using DC++ has now been capped to 15k, making it essentally useless. Whether it is my ISP or not, if BitTorrent, can encrypt data, I dont see why DC++ can't. |
