How is "bloatware" a problem? If your PC is so weak, or your drive is so small that more features and the associated disk space is a problem, you shouldn't be assembling and burning CD's, and particularly not DVD's with it. If the interface were cluttered, then I'd take it down a star or two, but it's not! Is OpenOffice.org "bloatware." Think a little before you pile on the buzz-word wagon. |

Nero as a suite turned to sh*t quite some time ago. It got huge, bloated, and full of unnecessary utilities that NOBODY really needs. BUT Nero as a standalone burning application is still the best in business, imho. I've tried pretty much everything starting from Burnaware to ImgBurn and many others, but Nero by far is the most flexible and advanced burning application there is. As for the bloat, well, I simply choose not to install anything but the burner itself at installation, that's all. |

Long since got off the Nero bandwagon. IMGBurn is it. everything important that Nero does in a slim, lightweight and efficient package. Free too. Don't waste bandwidth with this monstrosity - it's the poster child for the typical garbage commercial software of today. It seems this version has some serious problems with installation (windows vista x64 SP2). Nero General clean tool uninstalled all nero 9.2.6.0 features successfully and then, when i rebooted PC and tried to install 9.4.13.2 - installation crashed and nero was just partially installed. Could not neither remove it, neither to do complete install. Re-installed windows. 1st installed Nero, and then all windows updates. So, it seems it conflicts with some windows updates ... But itself Nero 9.4.13.2 works fine, a few new features they added. For those who still has old nero version i think it is better to stay with it, because this new version has some serious installations bugs. |

I've been a long time Nero user who upgraded to version 9 and then rolled back to 8 after all my file associations were hijacked by 9. I agree with many that this went from one of the best to one of the worst programs I had ever purchased. But the latest release, 9.4.13.2, fixes the file association problem. I've had no problems with the software since installing. Also, the installation time itself, which was a disaster when 9 was first released, has improved remarkably, including a much shorter install time. So for those of you who were wondering if this update fixed the file association problem, the answer is YES! I think Nero should have listed that fix in its release notes. |

I base my rating on only the Nero Burning Rom portion of this application. Despite the fact that I am a multimedia junkie, I just haven't found the need to run the other applications in this suite when there are great and in many cases better freeware alternatives available. Now back to burning rom... I would have given this application 5-stars six months ago, but then something happened that renderedthe application useless on my system. It burns ok until finalizing the disc, then fails. It is a quad-core system with two burners, and hardware issues have been eliminated. Removal and reinstallation did not help, which gave me a first hand opportunity to contact Nero support. Let me say right now that Nero support is close to useless. They ask you to run their info tool, which collections a boat-load of info about your system and then upload it to them. But I have my doubts that they even look at it. The support rep just feed me their top solutions to common problems. I had addressed all of their suggestions in my initial e-mail to them, but they had nothing else to offer in the way of troubleshooting or a fix (other than reinstall the OS). I had to switch to ImgBurn out of necessity and haven't looked back since. |

yeah yeah, imgburn is great but isn't able (in the year 2009) to copy DVD on fly (DVD->DVD) and many other things Nero Burning Rom did 5 years ago! and don't forget to click on the tab inside of a tab accesible by 3rd radio button in a panel on the main tab inside a tab container...aka great img burn interface in Nero it is a drag&drop plus one modal window to set prior to burning, noobs... I would give it 3 (as I am only using Nero Burning Rom and some stuff out of whole bundle) but need to give it 5 because of these one star reviews... |

The only thing I use from Nero is the burning programme, yes you can deselect what you don't want but downloading such a big file for almost nothing is pretty crap. Not to mention I tried to talk a friend out of buying it, which he did anyway. He's really annoyed, to put it lightly. You buy the full suite, only to find that you have to pay even more to use the apps which you specifically paid the extra money for in the first place (the dvd authoring stuff etc) - thats a bit of a con. Not to mention even though he has a valid licence it comes up with the 'Buy now' screen, which he has to close off and load nero again several times and it suddenly works. A clean install of windows didn't help either. They simply lost the plot making Nero, if they want to spend money developing softwate people DO NOT want then thats their problem. They may be paying a premium for it now but other free alternatives are getting better all the time, it won't be long for people to realise its not worth spending the money on and go to a more reliable, cheaper alternative. |

@FixXxeR...Thank You on clearing up this nero installation bit with us. i thought I was the only one that was having problems installing the new version of nero 9.2.6.0. I am getting a error message of The installation process cannot be resumed. "A rollback of the failed component will be performed." This is what they have supposedly fixed in this version..:\. Well I can tell you they didn't fix it!!. I am using vista x64 and I also have win xp sp2 and they both give the same errors. I don't know what these people in nero are doing, but either they have to hire new developers or get this software working properly. I was going to reformat my vista and try it, but according to FixXxeR that didn't work either. This software was the best out there in the past; now it has gone down the drain. I sent in a support report with the same error message they supposedly fixed . Imagine paying for something and you can't use it. They won't give you your money back. So I actually gave them money for free. |

I recently purcahsed the Nero suite based on the track record I had with their products being very easy to use and operate. This was just one version ago with v8. This time, I purchased the program, attempted to install it on both a clean install of vista and of Windows XP Pro SP3 and it failed. The install lasted almost 2 hours and turned out to be due to system restore being enabled and each application install on the nero suite being a separate installer (hence a separate restore point). No problem, I disabled system restore. After that point, I attempted to install it again. This time the installer made it to about 90% then failed with the error "Setup has been interrupted and cannot continue". OK, now what? I contacted nero support. After spending time on the phone with them, they advised me to run the nero cleantool to remove what appeared to be just a failed installation. Good deal, or so I thought. Repeated attempts at installation after running the clean tool, rebooting, and re-running the setup proved unsuccessful with the same error messages. Nero, I used to rely on you for everything from burning discs to converting my videos to DVD to ripping them from my HD Video Camcorder. Now, I cannot even get it to install. Sorry, 1/1 for the product as it stands now and not what it was. |

I wish reviewers would actually review the software and stop complaining that something is not what they personally want. ImgBurn burns CD/DVDs that's about all it does. Nero does a LOT MORE. Yes Nero USED to be just a CD burning program ... BUT it grew up. It is now a fully functional MEDIA STUDIO ... including media ripping and editing, DVD menu creation, CD and DVD authoring. Media Centre functions, including TV and radio. And many more. All of which it does very well. IF these functions are NOT what you require then by all means use a different application. But please stop giving Nero a low rating just 'cos it does MORE then you want it to. There are options to decide which items to install. |

Once Nero was the best burnerprogram around. Today it is bloated. It does "phone home" as well. I remeber when it had the size of almost nothing, but did work very well. Today it takes too much of the space of the harddrive. Next version will probably be 10 gigabytes..... Ahead should never added all the extra crap. It doesn't even burn/copy copyrighted discs anymore. I am quite satsfied with f.ex Ashampoo, Alcohol a.s.o. Nero is pure crap today ! |

I have to give this version some props because In CD seems to be working with more stability and less overhead. Some of us really like In CD and I'm glad they included it with version 9 of the product line. So, for not leaving In CD users in the dust, I feel comfortable giving it a 3 at this point. |

Nero has been the best for years but they have finally destroyed themselves. The installer is enormous and can take a fast quad-core system far too long to install. The software is bloated and you can find individual separate programs that are freeware that give you better results than the individual programs in the Nero Suite. The software is too bloated, too buggy, and grown too expensive for what it actually accomplishes. Having used every version of Nero since before XP was officially released I have now dumped Nero completely. I refuse to install it on any systems anymore. |

However, after the nightmare I had trying to install Nero 9 (wasted an hour only to find it's slower and buggier than ever) I decided enough is enough... Be 'informed' before you buy into the 'slippery'- non refundable- poorly coded & 1GB++ Nero 9. Besides being an install nightmare if it does install the results can even be more dis-enheartening as several of the applications simply do not work at all... Hugely BLOATED. If you're running XP, I see no reason to install anything version 6. Unfortunately that version doesn't work on Vista (by design maybe?) so you're forced to go to at least version 7. I honestly don't see why they have to go adding so much crap to what used to be the best burner there was. |

It's OK software, but there's little to differentiate this with 8 or even 7. Takes waaaaaay too long to install too. They really need to dump the code and start from scratch. The other problem with this version is that apparently if you have the download or trial version of Nero 9, you need to run the Nero CleanTool to uninstall Nero 9, then use this update to install it clean. Ridiculous. From Nero pages: "Nero 9 customers who purchased a Downloadable Version (not Retail Box) or currently have Nero 9 Trial version, must follow the steps below to take advantage of the latest Nero 9 Update Step 1: Run the Nero Clean Tool - this uninstalls your previous version of Nero 9 in preparation for the current Nero 9 update. They should make small installation pack with only burner! Haveing do download 370mb exe then unpack = 900mb and then pick isntallation of the stuff you need and 3 gigs of HDD space have gone for nothing special... ( a lot of programs make bloatware and make folders and more unneeded files and begginners at computer fields just always press next button without looking what's included with installations ) |

I became a member of file forum just so I could make a comment on this piece of crap. I grew whiskers waiting for it to install. To then run the program took for ever to load. I bought version 6 years ago and to be honest there is not a hell of allot of difference. With so much lean and clean freeware out that does most of the same stuff. How do they think their going to survive the market selling this crap? Name recognition only goes so far and long. I uninstalled it, cleaned my registry and deleted the left over files and folders. I am back to nero 6. Image burn also ROCKS. Does most of the common stuff with ease. |

Fortunately I had created a restore point before giving it a try: the file associations were all messed up, installation took AGES to complete. |

Commercial demo and beta and 15 day time limited! AND File Size: 370,450 KB.Requirements: NET Framework 3.0. Uninstaller?:Yes, OS Support:Windows 2000/2003/Vista/XP All installations in it for all OS supports so file size is 370mb. For XP home or XP pro installation file could not be this much. Who has sperate OS at home or work can download different size installations so file size be smaller than before. I bought Nero 8 what a bloated usless time consuming program. Nero Scout I finally got turned off but who needs double index service and one that does not work well and is on all the time consuming large amounts of system resources. Nero refuses to update properly after a custom install and have to d/load the whole program where once d/loaded you need to use the Nero Removal Tool then reinstall. If you do not do so and install over top if it lets you it installs everything...So much for a custom install. After using Nero Removal Tool there is tons of stuff left in the registry that even Norton does not remove nor does CCleaner. Found this out after I ran TweakNow 2.2 and it found tons to delete. Am back running a Ver of 6 that works well for me. If not there is always other free programs, Ashampoo has a freebie out. I will never bother with Nero 9 after my ver 8 experience. Can hardly wait for the Tivo edition...like not! Zero, Zero, Zero for 9 |

BLOATWARE!!! nero seriously have lost there way, for people like many who wants to choose there individual applications for there task at hand, nero steps on that right, yes one could argue that you can select what components you want to install, but that's not enough, behind the scenes nero still install huge amounts of files which taxes any system it installs to, further more it also installs applications that run on startup of the sytem aswell as services that also run in the background which can't be turned off unless a user knows advance windows functions, for example bringing up services manager and turning them off that way. nero has taken on far to much, and they have destroyed what was once a great peice of software, the install takes forever, there installer is far from smart, if anything it barely does the job (i miss the days when NERO was installed using WinRAR installer. for people that wants a all in one package, then nero is still not the right choice, it just asks to much from even the most powerful system on the market today, and the speed of loading most of these programs are terrible, for example there photo viewer, it takes over 4 seconds to load, irfanview loads in 0.2 seconds on my system, why, because nero has thousand's of files that make it function and they all have to be loaded, which leads onto the next issue, because of the many files that nero requires, it takes up massive amounts of space on any hard drive, gone are the days when nero only took 350+mb for full install, now your looking at over 1GB of data, if not more on any system. and last but not least, is the very terrible update system, nero still downloads far more then it needs to, you would think that if only some of the programs needs updating, then nero would just download those files it needs, but no, nero will download a big massive update package that actually contains loads of files that are already on your system, so in fact, over half of the update package is not actually needed, as only a few of nero's applications needs updating, the rest of the files gets installed even though there only overwritting files that are actually the same versions. the reason why is because there is not much difference from a update package to a demo package. nero has really lost there way, and like someone else has said, it started going wrong for them with the birth of nero 7, although i was still a nero user at that time, but when nero 8 came along with there new Index system (why o why do we need a index system when windows xp and above comes with it's own one, which is far easier, and a lot more efficient due to the fact that it's integrated with windows itself) things just got so bad, i finely had enough, the resources that nero package puts on one's system, and the amount of options in the installer applications that has to be adjusted is to much for any half decent computer user to have to put up with any more. 1 is not low enough, i give NERO a big fat 0 (ZERO), nero has lost there way, and i don't think they are finding there true path any time soon. although i am amazed, from a great product that was rated as the best burning suite, has gone to the worse package one could ever conceive, how the mighty has fallen. |

bloat-ware Nero tries to hard to be the all in wonder edit mix burn software. just stick to burning. If I want to edit sound I will use a sound editor of my choice . If I want to capture video and edit it , the same goes. Their are just to many freewares that do a better job . It's like the AOL or the Real Media of burning software. |

UPDATE: The core burning app still does not save layout specifics like column widths, locations, seperation bars / browser bars, etc. People have asked Nero (Ahead) for this ability since at least version 5 and they still won't allow you to save the exact state of your interface. The transparent splash screen actually crashes at times in Vista (not in XP). It is also incredibly sluggish in Vista, even with 4 gig of memory. I tried disabling InCD and more, but it did not help much. But, it ran much faster in XP. But still, it sure did put a lot of resident apps that I unloaded with MSCONFIG. Rating dropped to 2. I almost dropped it to a 1, but I need more times to evaluate the rest of the package before I make that decision. This update brings some mixed feelings. If all you really want is a Burning Application, Nero is no longer that. It has not been that for at least two versions now, 7 and 8. What it has become is an all-in-one product that seeks to provide an umbrella coverage for all of your actual and potential media needs. I am unhappy with the price I think more because I wish it was leaner and cleaner and more of a burning application. So I'm conflicted on the value of the product. It may be a great value for those who need and want all of these features, but for me, I think I would prefer a mid-level option or a more Basic option like Nero Linux 3 They have decided to break some features out into plug-ins, but I'm not sure that does little but end up costing you more. If I can usefully evaluate some more feature and function specifics before the next release, I'll mention them here in an update. But as it is, from what Nero was to what it has become, it doesn't seem more to me than an average bundle. It is also dependent on DOT NET 3 Framework and to me, that is a negative. I would prefer the program to be written and optimized in a tight language and set of libraries. Programming efficiency and performance seem at odds when you start factoring in DOT NET. |

Nero started as a burning app. Nowdays it is not just a burning app so do not blame it for being pretty complete suite of multimedia related tools instead of just a burning app. It is very good for burning and all disc related functions. Although it would be nice if they offered a liter version with just the burning functions. I personally don't care about the file size even if it were a few gbs. i have 12 mb/s connection but for some people it is an issue. But as it was said CDBurnerXP is a very good program if only burning functions are required. And it's free. |

Typical of most recent software Nero assumes to know more about what you want to do than you do. It consistantly mis-recognizes cd/dvd drive capabilities as well as media limits. If you cd media rated 1x to 52x you will not be allowed to burn as slower than 16x. If you use dvd media rated 2x to 16x you will not be allowed to burn at less than 8x. Faster is not always better. The majority of standard dvd players will not play back reliably at higher than 4x. Like most current software Nero attempts to set itself up as a one stop solution for all your media needs. Rather poorly too. You can choose a custom installation and opt not to install such features as Nero Home or Nero Backup, however the core services are installed anyway. If you simply want to reliably record cds capable of playing on any player or dvds playable on any player then Nero is not the right choice. If you want a Nero knock off of Windows XP media edition then go for Nero. Realize of course that its simply attempting to duplicate all the features you already have installed in your opsys. |

I used to use Nero 6. I tested Nero 7, and i didn't like it, and, of course Nero 8, i hate it. If you only burn a few music/data CD's or DVD's you can use free APP's. I use Img Burn and Infra Recorder, two little programs, and didn't messed my system.Sorry, but when i buy music CD's i rip them and when i have got a lot of ripped CD's i burn in a Mp3 DVD If you'r a burning pro, syre this is your program, but not for me. 4 stars because is a very good software, i don't doubt, but i don't pay 80€ if i'll never use the greater part of tools. |

All this "BLOAT" Talk. Thing is, ALL applications anymore have BLOAT, ever notice that everything has a Google or Yahoo Toolbar install anymore and some providers consider that the update??? No matter what you install, ALWAYS choose a Custom / Interactive Installation so you can actually see what you are installing. Now to the review of this: It's a much cleaner build than the previous (8.3.2.1). Load times of saves projects and such all are faster. I still don't like their activation "Scheme" in version 8.x, but it's their software. If you are going to invest ANY $$$ in CD / DVD / Blu-Ray Burning software which realize, it is a COMPLETE CD / DVD Package (Covers all Aspects needed in Burning), then NERO is the way to go. |

I really feel that Ahead have lost the plot with Nero. Most people won't ever use half the stuff bundled with these later releases. Personally I used Nero 6 for a long time and found it a good solid burning app. I've tried Nero 7 and 8 but to me the bloat is too much. I've now moved over to Ashampoo Burning Studio which is like a breath of fresh air compared to the latest Nero builds. The unfortunate thing is that the people most likely to be taken in by the Ahead hype are the casual PC users who probably are running lower end machines which could become overburdened by Nero's bulk. |

A classic example of bloat. It tries to take over your computer associating itself to every media type. Updates are a chore and they just lay over the top of the old version until I had over a GB of Nero and all to burn a disk? I removed Nero. I installed the free Ashampoo Burning Suite v6.61 and live happily thereafter. |

This version of Nero is very nice, it comes with everything the older versions did, just in a much nicer easier to use interface. It's in Beta folks which means it is going to be buggy until the final version so don't complain when you download beta software which is in testing phase. Dont like the bugs then beta software is not for you. |

Is bloated thats for sure but as a all in one media centre as this is, theres your bloat. I bought the retail CD and installed it then found out that had to un-install it and use a wipe tool and down load the 8.2.8.0 web version and use my key to activate it if I wanted bug fixes plus. I now look at this version today and check the Nero site and if I want to get the bug fixes and anything else they have done to this I must again use the Nero wipe tool and d/load and reinstall again. There is registry hunting involved also. A 3 for "poor" ability to up dating of the software/bug fixes and making a person uninstall/reinstall as well as a wipe tool and registry key hunt and registry errors. |

I did, as earlier reviews have suggested, a custom install. After removing everything but Nero Burning Rom (I even removed the NBR help files) I was still left with an install that needed more than 200 MB, how anybody can claim that this is not bloated is beyond me. But in comparison to the full install which is 1.8 GB I guess 200 MB is small and nibble. When the 15 trial days have gone, so will Nero 8. |

It works fine.All the programs i've ever installed, i have adjusted startup and many other things concerning my set-up.I only had to restart once.This is nothing new and not hard.My laptop runs the program fine, I don't know if i need all the things that came with it but it will be fun to learn.I like to get creative anyway. My laptop isn't the greatest but it does the job.I have a toshiba with a celeron m and 1 gb ddr2ram.It cost me $200 due to black friday at best buy.Most $500 notebooks sold right now, outperform mine though.The program upon installation asks you what you would like to install, You don't have to install anything you don't want to.Ofcourse certian parts go with others and they include what the majority has ranted and raved about for so long.So far it works fine for me.I am more a fan of version 7 but that's only cause i havn't had the time to mess with version 8 yet.I am almost certian i will like it cause i'm noticing features that caught my attention.(dvd section) :) If you arn't a fan of so many extras, just don't select them when you are at the install screen.You can choose ''custom''. If you want to just skim over and get the raw basics, just get nero lite, it's on fileforum. If you really can't stand nero for some emotional issue, go for Infrarecorder..Ashampoo made far too many coasters for me.I havn't had coasters since 1998... |

I was sort of agreeing with Qlib.. UNTIL I did the automatic "upgrade" to the latest version. It took 15 or 20 minutes to download 175MB of "updates", the full product is only 184MB. I have a fast connection, they have a slow server. Then it proceeded to uninstall everything I had, and require a reboot, then install the "updates" and require 2 more reboots, yes, 2 more. At the end of that I am now the proud owner of Nero Scout, it didn't give me a choice during the "upgrade". Nor does their appear to be an option to uninstall it. It also installed 2 services and started scanning my machine. One called BackItUpScheduler and one called NMIndexing Service, neither have descriptions, neither are options during the "upgrade". NMIndexing starting scanning all my hardrives without asking and running about 75% cpu on one of my cores. It also adds a RUN item in the registry called NeroFiltercheck which is probably no big deal. So, after 20 or 30 minutes of updates, and manually disabling services and having Nero Scout forced up my *ahem*. I'm heartily sick of Nero. The DVD movie editor really stinks, and Nero SmartStart gives me a headache trying to figure out where to click just to run something. Really bad interface. Also, as a loyal, registered customer I was given a sweet deal to upgrade online so I did, only to see it significantly cheaper at a local electronics store a couple of months or so later. I'm sorry to say it, Nero used to be the best, now it's just bloated crapware. Sad. They could at least not screw their registered customers on price. |

Performance is not so good. The bad is that Nero AG developers cannot fix bug in Nero Express, where Disc Name when it is marked is no possible to delete with Delete or Del button on keyboard. I was reporting this problem many times but they say that it is issue, but stil cannot fix it.. This bug was in all Nero 7 versions and still is. Bad, bad from Nero AG. |

what's bloated about it? As one example, Nero Scout. I can't choose to NOT install this junk and it insinuates itself into my OS quite insidiously. Then there are the myriad bugs and inconsistencies. When you try and be all things to all people, a mess invariably ensues (two popular operating system failures this year by prominent vendors are excellent cases in point). I wouldn't buy this junk with YOUR money. ONE star for crap that can't convince me to leave version 6 which is stable, fast and slim. |

I chose which components to install and it did what I needed it to do. With Nero 8 I have acquired some unusual problems with Audio and Video decoding. It seems something installed with Nero 8 would crash the sound hardware on my machine when trying to play DivX movies.. One core of my processor was maxed out and I would have to Hard Power off my machine to be able to shut it down. I an not impressed with this at all. An un-install of Nero 8 and all is well with my sound again.. |

People are just whining about Nero like brainwashed lemmings. Nero is still THE premier digital media and burning suite. Period. However, I completely agree that there is way too much nonsense bundled into the relatively massive download. I believe that some of the subcomponents should be available separately. Why are audio and image editing applications included in the main download? Yes, you can opt not to install these things--a fact the crybabies ignore... or don't know in the first place because they didn't even install Nero 8--but why be forced to download it at all? That said, Ashampoo's burning software does not include anything equivalent to Recode. Nor does it have a utility to mount disc images. And so on. And on. No other burning software (that I know of, for sure) supports all the audio formats that Nero does. No other allows you to tweak the audio prior to creating an audio CD. So if I want to take FLAC files and create an audio CD with loudness effects, what do I use? If I want to recompile a DVD to put it on a 4.37-GB disc, what do I use? Not Ashampoo. Not InfraRecorder. Not 50 separate, half-done, undocumented, buggy freeware lunch-hour projects. Nero! |

Like others here I find this app far too bloated these days. Why do software companies feel that they need to add stuff that no one wants just to make their programme seem like a value product? If I want to burn a CD or DVD I want to do just that and not have an all singing all dancing thing grind my hard drive around for around a minute while it opens up. For me Ahead have lost the plot with Nero and should offer lite versions for those who want them. The Nero Lite from a 3rd party has too much broken in it to warrant much attention. So for me this release warrants a score of 1. |

What a nightmare! Like other users I find this software to be nothing but trouble and incredibly bloated. Nero do indeed supply downloads that don't work...the cab errors reported by other users are very, very common. If you download via torrent then it is likely to be able to be able to check the download and spot some of Nero's dodgy downloads but even then you can't expect this garbage to work properly. I too am a long term Nero sufferer who has finally had enough of this junk. If I could give negative ratings this would get one....a simply awful product! |

have used nero for many many many years. Unfortunately, I have been falling out of love with it. Nero 8 was the bloated straw that broke the camels back. I was getting runtime errors, it was slow to load on my fairly modern system. Also, the new nero phones home to check serial numbers which I dont care for. I had heard good things about ashampoo burning studio here so i decided to try it. Wow. Just wow. The UI is nicer than Nero. It wasnt designed to be run in full screen like cruddy Nero. It can do everything nero can, only its cheaper, smaller, faster and prettier. |

I thought Nero 7 was a bit bloated and overkill but compared to Nero 8, it's a users dream. Just like the major virus prevention suites, Nero 8 has encapsulated bloat ware beyond belief. This version is huge and I wonder, for what. What a shame Ahead has allowed this software to become just another heavy laden bloated piece of software. Once upon a time, this software was the cream of the crop, now it's become a serious flop. After reading many threads, I wished I had investigated and read all these reviews. Some are positive, most are not. There were many times during the installation, I actually thought the install had froze, hung. Once installed it became apparent in a very short time, this version was in serious need of overhaul. I wondered if Ahead was in the check box frame of mind when creating this version. It's as if they wanted to alert their customers that this latest version could do thousands of tasks no other software could. Sad to say, this is a huge step backward for Nero. I want to be fair, Nero's customers will sound the alarm loud and clear of its fate or success. I for one, will look forward to a more lighter weight software. Several people have suggested ashampoo burning studio. I'm on my way to investigate and evaluate the trial for 40 days. Don't laugh Roxio, your software is bloat ware as well. |

If what you need is more than a complete Office Suite for Burning data files, then Nero 8 is perfect for you... but not for me. But that just me, I don't speak for everyone. If you install this, it will also install a permanent service at the background that will run even if you don't use Nero. A waste of memory, boot time, and harddisk space. |

I tried the 8.1.1.0 and theres more bloat than ever. There were lots of bugs and band-aid programming:- 1. On one system it will not install at all - keeps complaining that the installation has been interrupted. 2. It still sports old fashioned mentality/programming style - user should only be required to select files to burn and nero should tell user whether a cd or dvd is required. It does not make sense to first select a CD then select files and found we only have a spare DVD - start all over again? 3. Why is it unable to dynamically swicth bethween cd and DVD discs? (at lease for data burning?) 4. Why is secure disk palced in nero express and not main stream nero? 5. There is no need to monopolize the whole PC screen during its operations. 6. Messages are wrong - When its burning it should say "active" or "burning" and not "ready" 7. I only want to pay for nero mainstream not the other bloats. Nero package should be sold in parts . 8. Nero should stick to doing whats they do best - just data/video burning and not have photosnap, neroplayer etc |

I got N8 about 2 months ago and played with it, all of it. It's got a new look, but that's about all I could tell of it.It locked up several times in Vista X86 on install, but they fixed that. I like 7, it a bargain binner now, you can get the essentials for free from some places. |

This is a resource hog which looks beautiful and organized. This program seems to have slowed my machine to a snails pace. Windows vista eats my 2gigs but allows me to multitask nicely with low to medium resource programs- but nero 8 changed that. My machine now sucks completely in speed and has made it freeze for a minute here and a minute there-seemingly close to locking it up completely. In Nero's defense though, i didn't defragment after installing nero8. I also didn't play with it at all. I installed it, experienced my computer suck, and uninstalled it. This program looks beautiful on the upside. It also defines bloatware- 1GB! 1GB for a cd burner and media manager + Player. Itunes is 60mb now (i think). Windows XP is 1GB. Presumably future versions of nero 8 will have cleaned up code, slimming it down and speeding it up. In conclusion, nero 8 is beautiful bloatware. |

I am a BIG Nero Fan, but I tried to install this on three (3) separate systems. All gave me the same error that: "A previous Installation did not complete (eg: Windows Update). Please reboot and start the installation again." I installed no updates, I made no other changes. I gave up. I reinstalled my Nero 7 Ultra without issues. Attention Nero: FIX YOUR INSTALLER! |

BTW: What has "buying more RAM" to do with not liking an application anymore because it has gone bloatware? I will buy more RAM for my private file server at home, it needs to be upgraded from 64 MB to 128 MB. You can do EVERYTHING nero does by searching the web to get a little freeware collection of small apps for all that tasks. Some of them even don't need to be installed, just unpacked... |

This program with every new version goes better and better! Many new features has been added and bugs fixed. I like this new interface. But it is a bit sad, that this program don't supports my TV tuner Hauppauge HVR 3000... By the way, Nero 6.6 reloded worked much better with my old tuner. |

blasted thing refuses to install.. it unpacks.. starts the "preparation" crap but then just tells me the installation was interrupted and nothing on my system was changed.. WTF?.. I uninstalled nero 7.. i ran the cleaning tool.. bunches of reboots.. checked the registry and everywhere I could think of for leftover files.. nothing.... reinstalled nero 7.. that worked just fine.. Oh My God ! What was once a reliable burning utility has silently turned into a whole bunch of bloat, installing this tool will get you 40 BSOD's for 20 written DVD's, ain't that a deal !!! Yeah, sure, I do understand commercialism, once something is perfectly fine, there ain't much left to keep sales besides adding more and more useless crap. But That !? Only Symantec is allowed to produce such a pill of resident crap,services, low level drivers, and more system hooks getting shot in the core of your system. At least give the non-braindead customers the option to only install the only nice feature of this frigging pile of bytes, The Burning Rom app. You can do that with a 100kB file these days. |

After my last experience with Nero support, I made the decision to use the system recovery from now on. It's not worth the whole support tech pass you around to each other thing. Best burning software plus its ShowTime is as good as WinDvd. I went with WinDvd, that was oky but that sucks much money but Nero 8 is not. I also tried Nero 8 torrent but that was a joke. I was disappointed when seen that it was over 900MB but Now it seems that its not really. Thanks Nero! I love you! |

My impression of this product changed dramatically on 7/31/07 when I rec'd a notice that an update was available. I made the HUGE mistake of downloading the update!! As I followed what was going on, I noticed that many files were being replaced in their entirety but I assumed this was normal. Long story short: "Fatal error in installation." (!!) I have tried the various Nero "Cleaning Tools" but nothing works. I tried manually deleting some of the 133 files but was told I couldn't via various messages. I tried Nero Support and I feel I'm getting nowhere since I keep getting different support guys who want me to send them Microsoft Paint "pictures" of the error messages instead of my word-for-word description of what happened when I tried various deletion/ clean-up methods. Has anyone out there faced this problem and resolved it without going thru a complete System Restore? I just want to completely remove this tentacled monster from my Hp m7330n, Windows XP computer!! Thanks!! |

This is the best burning software for optical discs in the world. There is no such thing as faster and more reliable software than Nero. When compared to Roxio's software, Nero is much less bloated and runs a lot faster. Considering all of the features you get with Nero 7 I don't know what everyone is complaining about. Optical disc burning software can't get much better than this in terms of features and ease of use. |

Great programme, the only thing I use to burn. I like many others though, believe its not written as well as it could and is bloatware. All the video encoding and sound editing stuff should be combined for example. Or at least combine soundtrax with the wave editor! BIG THING: The first thing I do is turn off the indexing service. Yes Nero comes with its own indexing service which is a RAM hog. It has its own service (nmindexingservice) which should be turned off, as well as some startup items. Its actually worse and more of a nuisance than the Microsoft one, and kinda pointless having another 40mb+ memory app that does something thats already included in the operating system, and it DOES NOT give you a choice of turning it off during setup. Thats a very poor choice, and its a gross waste of memory. |

photonboy: You should look for MPEG Modifier to fix XViD/DivX files for compatibility with DVD Players that do not support QPEL... I do the same for Doctor Who episodes =) It's a tiny little app that does the trick. Nero is 'neat' but unless you have a fast computer, the bloat is unwelcome. Nero is somewhere between being a properly integrated suite and being just a big bundle of programs stuck together by an installer. Perhaps I'll get back into Nero with v8 ... perhaps they will really improve filesize and integration of apps. As it stands, no program should be this large. It's just sloppy coding. Also - for something this large and commercial... the interface looks VERY amateur... it doesn't look sleek ... should feel / look more like Windows Media Player (or iTunes if you will)... or just something pleasant. Their autostarter thing is silly. |

But as others have mentioned, it has become gigantic and it would be nice to see Nero offer a slimmed down version at a lower price for those who don't need all the extras. I absolutely love the Nero 7 Ultra. I use Nero Recode, Nero Vision, Nero Burning ROM and Nero Showtime all the time. Nero Home has potential but doesn't work with my remote control. I'm a little baffled at the people who don't like this because there's very little that I'd change. I actually love the way the Main Window is designed. I do have a few issues though: 1) I had problems with NeroScout and had to disable it and also disable some Nero software from starting 2) ProductSetup works by downloading the entire roughly 270MB file no matter what you are updating even if it's only 1MB worth of files. 3) Nero 7 Ultra extracts over 500MB to a directory and NEVER uses them. If you extract the compressed program and run setup by opening "SetupX" then Nero 7 Ultra installs fine without wasting the 500+MB of space but you can't update it. Isn't that odd since it ends up downloading the entire compressed file again anyway? These points aside, I absolutely love Nero Burning ROM, I use Nero Vision and convert AVI (divx/xvid) Doctor Who and BSG for my sister who doesn't have a Divx player. I now use DVD Rebuilder Pro for DVD9 to DVD5 but I use Nero Recode to analyze the DVD9 files first. Occasionally, you can drop down to DVD5 without compressing by removing languages and extras (Main Movie Only may be best.) *Yes, Nero has some faults, but most people don't have the Nero Scout glitch and hard drive space really is cheap. I used Nero for years. I want a v8.0 that is streamlined, modular, and that doesn't install a huge pile of codecs into Windows (or at least offers a nice and simple management console for them). This is extreme bloatware. It's ridiculous. The bundled application suite doesn't really have any 'glue' to make it feel like it's one large suite - other than a loader menu that has the programs together - but come on, my start bar does that for me. I've TRIED so hard to like this, but I just don't feel that I own Nero anymore - I feel like it owns whatever resources and diskspace that it wants. I've triend NeroLite and similar programs - mostly successful about that. Now, I found InfraRecorder the other day. I believe it's either 6MB installed or for the installer. It has an 'Express' and regular app - just like Nero... it's streamlined and has a VERY fast interface. The only downside is that the MP3 -> WAV process does not happen while burning - it uncompresses them first, then burns... so that can slow down burning. My point? Try InfraRecorder, then rate Nero. Whatever Nero is trying to do seems to be in favor of marketability, not the user. There are better apps out there. |

One. Vista is a bloated OS. Two. There are still problems with the whole idea of vista and programs not begin compatible with it. Three. Maybe you should be pointing your finger at the right person before you go throwing you words around so loosely. As for Nero, I have never been a big fan. I have always used alcohol 120%. If you update using Nero ProductSetup it *IS* a partial update..problem is the servers seemed to be so bogged, it was actually faster downloading the whole app from elsewhere. This is the first time iv actually had success with doing a partial update with ProductSetup It is a little bit on the bloat side, and id like to see Nero offer their own Minimal install and such (esp without some of the image/sound file accosiations and Nero Scout (PITA app)but... It fixed a major GPF i was having when trying to run Nero Home... It would usually GPF and give me the Debug dialog after I selected my tuner card and wouldnt get any further. Now Nero Home seems to work... |

As good as this is, I only use one part (burning rom) since the rest is substandard and I have the usual issue with that whole bigFAT download. We're well into the 21st century; if you haven't given me a partial update download that's easy, then you're just not listening, and you don't care. |

I have extensively reviewed this in the past. It is a truly excellent program. There is some confusion: 1) You do NOT have to download a 150MB file every time it updates. Nero has an update section called "ProductUpdate." My only complaint is that the default installation installs roughly 500MB or so just to a Temp folder which serves no other purpose than to be used for this update feature. Installing by extracting with Runrar and running StartX does NOT create this huge temp file, however ProductSetup does not work. Perhaps not a huge issue in a world where 320GB hard drives are $100 but for 30GB laptop users this IS a big deal. 2) Nero 7 Ultra is not the only Nero package. People claim to want just a basic Nero Burning ROM package. Well, most burners come with just such a package so I don't know what the problem is. Nero 7 Ultra may have many features that most people don't use, but in my opinion Nero Burning ROM, Nero Showtime, Nero Recode and Vision easily justify the cost not to mention several other apps and tools. I've been using Nero since version 5. I've seen a continued commitment from Nero to improving this product in a timely manner and I expect this Suite to remain my choice for some time to come. The interfaces are so intuitive after a short period that I couldn't see writing them any other way. I am hoping to see a simple BluRay or HDDVD compression utility soon. (i.e. compress to 4.2GB, single-layer DVD with H264/AVC that plays on standalone High-Def player or via Nero Showtime) |

For those who hate the bloat, choose the custom install option instead of the default. Almost everything can be added or deleted including Nero Scout. If you really want a burner application that is light and tight this is NOT the app for you. There are plenty of free burner apps that fit that description. Nero is a fine suite for many people. Rate it on what it is, not what you want it to be. |

I just upgraded my secondary machine from 7.5.9 to this version, and found that the installed size (for a Burning ROM-ONLY installation) increased from 56 MB to 69 MB. What did I gain in exchange for those extra 13 MB? As far as I can tell, only a glitzier looking file browser window, which was already a bit too glitzy for my taste. Yes, Nero still has the best burning engine that I know of, but that engine seems to become less worthwhile with each release, as it's buried under the weight of more and more digital dross. |

Love and have used Nero for many years now, but this huge update download is just idiotic. They're wasting a lot of bandwidth and losing money by not offering just the burning rom/nero express version to users. Sure, we all custom install this program, but it's the download we're carping about. For all their other components, someone else does them better, faster, and cheaper. Program gets a "5"; but for the download and installation hassles (say NO 121 times in a row), it deserves a big fat "1". (And no, broadband doesn't matter; the monster is out of hand.) |

Nero Recode 2.5.20 has been "nicely" updated. The number of frames per second is lower around 20% in comparison to Nero Recode 2.4.50. Some presets do not work (e.g. recoding films to Nero Digital 1/3 DVD), so you have to do everything manually. Went back to Nero 7.7.5.1. |

Aaaaah, the modern era of bloatware is now in full swing! Nero's burning engine is 'hands-down' a rock-solid beast. But the updates are a big headache. This MUST be addressed by Ahead if they want Nero to survive in a world full of freeware, OpenSource, and very small, cheap, efficient apps... all of which are just a quick download away!! I've seen this monster grow like a bad virus over the years. So, now, I use Nero Lite. It's a stripped-down version, with all the functionality/none of the bloat. Yes, i give this just 2 out of five. Every time i install it it deletes ALL files in C:\Windows\Installer After a reboot almost 50-60% of all icons disappear. Nerovision Express doesn't even start...a subsystem can't.... Yes, it doesn't say any more ! Uninstall leaves at least 70% left on the system.... Have to clean systemregistry manually to get rid of it.... Afterwards still 10% is still on the system. I'm running XP x64 with ALL updates. I have friends with exactly the same problem ! Have written to Ahead but they can't help... This is pure crap !!! |

I thought I might update from an earlier version of 7.xx since this one promises to be compatible with VISTA (should I decide to upgrade my OS). I only install and use a few of the Nero modules like Cover Editor, the Burning modules, Smart Start and Tools. So I opened Smart Start and chose to Update as the fellow below so mockingly recommends. I was taken to a download site where I watched horrified as a 254 MB download was accomplished. Then update uninstalled my existing version of Nero and restarted my computer. Then the "update" continued. When complete, the update had installed EVERYTHING Nero offers including every single module that I never wanted, had never installed before and would never use. So using the built in update routine may not yield the results you'd expect. I did a system restore from a backup I had made for this occasion and then visited the Ahead site to download the 190 MB "update" module. This download, as it has in the past, let me choose the specific modules I wanted to install and all went well. This is nice software for sure but it sure beats you up when you update. |

Nero needs to change the updating method. To update one program you need to down-load a huge service pack witch contains many programs. I find this to be a big downfall. Overall their software is a nice 1 do all but the way it is updated is the hole in the side of the ship. |

Nero (7.5.9.0a) is a good mastering tool, and you can select which function shall be actually installed. But Nero Recode (2.3.7.0) still shows the "too big" bug: when you shrink a DVD (DVD9 to DVD5), the resulting files are too large and do not fit into a standard DVD media. You can circumvent that by manually setting the desired size at 4380-4400 Mb. |

I love it and use most of it. Nero Showtime has really improved in the last two releases (it had lots of annoying glitches). Nero Burning Rom, Nero Vision, and Nero Recode work great but I think Nero Vision needs to improve its Chapters as you are forced to have a thumbnail for each chapter instead of just having them present for the remote control. I've used all the other programs. The only other one that comes close is "NTI" but I still prefer Nero. Nero has one "problem." When you install it, it extracts about 500MB to a permanent folder in the hidden Temp folder on your C-drive. Depending on what you install, this may bump up your overall C-drive size by 800MB or more. This should not be necessary. You can avoid this by extracting the downloaded Nero file to a local file with Winrar, install it from the folder then delete the folder after. You can't auto update via Product Setup, but you'll have to decide how much you care about hard drive space. |

If you could separate out just the core Nero Burning ROM application and score it on its own merits, I think it would be more fair. But since they only make Nero available in that huge bloated bundle, I guess they get what they deserve. All the shovelware they throw in - most of it is so poorly written that it gives the Nero product a bad name. I wish they would just focus on making the core burning app better. That is what really got people to be fans of Nero in the first place. |

I'm not neutral. The entire 7.x line is crap. This is an attempt to be all things to all people and in doing so, the company has not only achieved mediocrity but has also lost sight of its target market: people who burn CDs and DVDs. It's bloated, it's buggy it's slow. Each release is a patch job to fix more weirdness that should have been caught before it was released. Stability is nowhere near the rock solid efficiency that was 6.x - which is why I went back to 6. This is a grand waste of money tantamount to a Roxio product - and that's the deepest insult I can imagine for a piece of software that does what this is designed to do. TWO stars because mediocrity should not be rewarded with anything more. |

I give this a 5 because it will let those users who are not interested in learning how things work, install and use a full range of products. It also allows me to just install what I need of it. While I prefer and usually use other applications for my burning needs once in a while Nero has what I want for when I'm trying to burn something none of the more streamlined applications will do. I have on occasion had to burn a file that none of the other applications I use could "see". My choices were, change the extension or use Nero Express. |

Nero is the only burning suite that works every time on my PC! The others crash regularly when I've tested them before paying out for new versions. I agree that there is a lot of extra stuff included, much I will never use, but it's better than not enough. Also I may need one of them someday! I have found version 7 to be better than 6, and would not go back if you paid me! I would gladly recommend Nero to friends... Keep up the good work Nero team! |

I use almost all of Nero 7 Ultra's functions and the program is near perfect. People that complain it's "bloated" can just stick with a free basic copy of Nero 6 that you can get with a DVD burner anyway. Also, you can choose which components you wish to install. If you only want Nero Burning ROM then just install it. (The only "problem" I've discovered is Nero 7 Ultra extracts the entire contents to a folder on the C-drive. That's around 500MB not counting the actual install folder. You can avoid this by extracting the setup folder with Winrar then running setup from it.) What is added? You can find the revisions at the Nero site. Mostly it's just VISTA compatibility. |

Seems to be the case that when good programs have been around for a long time the company doesn't know what to do except add more features and increase the bloat. It happened to Norton a long time ago. It happened to Zonealarm and many others. Regarding Nero, version 5.5 was probably the leanest (but didn't include DVD recording) and so v6.6 is probably the best version to use, with v7 being slow and overbloated. |

That's pretty hefty, and adds a lot of registry keys to top it off. It's so bloated that you'll find a program called neroLite, which is designed to trim down the nero installation. I have been a long time user of Nero but recently switched to Ashampoo Burning Studio. It does everything I need it to do, and is MUCH lighter on the resources. I like to keep my system relatively lean, and Nero as it odds with that. |

6.6.1.6 it is for me, similar to the guy who uses his 6.x version. The core burning app is lacking some of the key stability that 6.x has had, and they have done very little to improve upon that core app, it would seem. Heck, it can't even be set to save column widths and positions for the main interface! The fact that Recode still doesn't even work as reliably as the DVD Shrink that it is based upon should tell you something of why version 7 is not as well regarded. As a whole, the program is more bloated then ever. I guess it would not be so bad if they offered a lower priced (say $29) Nero Standard version along side the Ultra version, which would allow you to not pay for the bloat you don't want. The core burning app is what made Nero worth looking at in the first place. It is sad they focus less development upon it than they do the non-critical apps bundled in the Ultra package. |

Nero is an amazing product. They have done a really good job with this latest version. The Vista release which should just be a few lines of code fixed should be almost identical to this with the possible exception of a color makeover specific to Vista. (I have no real info on that) Contrary to some inadequate complaints, Nero is incredibly stable and is not "bloatware." If you don't want to pay for all the apps then get version 6. For crying out loud, you can get a free burning disc with a $50 DVD burner so I don't understand the complaints. Nero is simply the best overall DVD burning/authoring around for ease of use and price. |

I still really don't understand the complaints of bloat against version 7 as opposed to 6. YES, the Nero 7 INSTALLER is much larger, than 6 was, but since Nero 7 actually allows for a custom installation and version 6 did not, it means version 7 yields far LESS bloat ON YOUR HARD DRIVE. I only install the burning component, which only uses 37 MB of disk space. And since Nero Scout, highly annoying and completely useless as it is, can be quickly and easily gotten rid of such that it doesn't even reincarnate when doing an upgrade install, I see no cause to dock points for it. 4 1/2 stars (OK, I'll admit I don't like downloading a 189 MB installer just to get one 37 MB application, so for that, I do dock it half a point). |

I like it. Pretty much options for burning perfect Audio CDs. And Recode is super. AVC codecs mostly perfect. I even use Nero Vision if I need a fast MPEG2 Recorder, does his job well. Or authoring fast a DVD, if there´s no time to do it the normal way. Takes only 1 minute to un-register the unneeded DLLs or Programs. Made a batch, and Scout and all the "express" things are gone. For the Manual work: only 4 points. |

i hate it when programs try to become an "all-in-one do everything you need and then a lot more that you probably will never need" kinda thing. nero 6 was great... not the smallest program out there but fast, stable and ideal for pretty much all media burning needs. nero 7 is more bloated than sally struthers. it is slow, tries to do way too much and just plain ruined everything good they had going for them. i would rather install "Easy CD Creator" or some other bundled crap than nero 7 these days. |

Very good but too bulky. Why do you need to download 130 MB to install only one or two apps as most users do? To install only one app the Windows register gets not only the keys it needs: it gets also several hundred unuseful keys which I clean afterwards using a registry cleaner. Furthermore, it installs the same programs twice in different locations. Good but mad. I only need Nero Burning Rom, as most users do, so simple as possible. |

I use Nero for burning using FLAC, APE, and SHN files directly. No other software I know of is as good. I use it to archive music and other files that I have and have never had a problem with it. It's feature rich, and I like that. It's the best I've found for what I need. |

I've been using Nero for the last 4 years and for me it's never been a contest with other burning apps. It does what I need it to do, without errors (unless I'm using inferior discs), for audio, data and video DVDs. For the costs, you can get it pretty cheap if you find a markdown, then a rebate. All in all, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. I am curious as to when Vista problems with Nero will be addressed --- but that has no impact on my opinion of Nero 7. |

I am not a happy bunny. Not only Scout is still not an option, but now on top of that, it will automatically enables "Nero Desktop search" which hijacks and wastes part of my precious taskbar. Scout should definitely be part of the installation options, and not forced on the customer. Apart from that: - Scout and Desktop search are relatively easy to disable (by first disabling Scout from its options, and then unregistering MediaLibraryNSE.dll). - Nero remains the best CD-DVD authoring software in my opinion, and I did try a lot of them (including some freeware such as CDBurnerXP which honestly are not in the same league). - Since version 7, apart from the Scout issue, you are offered to choose which portions you want to install, and it does what you ask. As it stands now, I'll give it a three. |

I had problems with burning an audio CD from MP3's. If Nero converted the files, the resulting CD had skipping & popping audio. If I use a different converter such as Winamp's write to disk, the CD was fine. Other than that, Nero rocks. |

I burn all my audio CDs using Nero 7.x releases these days and have since Nero 7's release. I have not had any skips or pops. Maybe I am just amazingly lucky or maybe it has to do with the brand and model of CD/DVD drives used. I use a Plextor PX-708A and a PX-716A. I mainly burn using my PX-716A. Minus the fact Nero includes stuff I don't need and you have to download the large installer, I can't find faults with Nero. |

I am about to eat my own words. I gave Nero Burning Rom 7.2.3.2b a low rating when it first came out. The low rating was for it being buggy, crashing and basically still version 6. I was using Roxio EMC 8 in place of Nero and enjoying the program. Since I paid for Nero version 7, I downloaded the current verson and found it to be more stable with plenty of options to get my burning and various other needs done. Nero Burning Rom 7.2.3.2b is a vast improvement from when version 7 was introduced. I am currently using it without any problems to report. |

Okay, it is bloated in the sense that it has too many unnecessary "features" but not in the sense that the bloat cripples the machine like Norton av and NIS does. Nero 7 has never failed me yet when it comes to burning - error free - exactly what I need, so for that it gets a 4. The developers really should, however, simplify this utility by purging some of the excess and getting rid of the stupid scout. Oh yeah, don't ever try using their autoupdate feature either; it's an unmittigated joke. Simply download the update, uninstall the current version, reboot and re-install the update. |

The update does not address the issue that many are having with Nero Vision taking 40 or more seconds or sometimes several minutes to launch. 7.0.8.2 is a 5 star winner, but 7.2.0.3b is still a work in progress. I have always given 5 stars, but I find myself having to retract some comments after using the latest two builds. 1) Nero Vision takes a ridiculously long time to launch (I thought I had a glitch because there's no good reason for this) 2) Showtime does not display correctly on my 16:9 HDTV. The picture is too small and is s***ed to the bottom of my screen. Same for video files and DVD's. (I'm not certain but I think this starts at version 7203. Despite this, the latest version of Nero Vision works even better. It now encodes to fit the DVD size instead of only discrete sizes. I just tried it and it works great. I think I'll uninstall Nero completely, then reinstall 7082 without Nero Vision. I'll then install the latest Nero Vision (despite its slow boot time it works better so what are you going to do?) I must say I'm incredibly disappointed in Nero. I've been a strong supporter but releasing blatant errors like this is not good for their reputation. |

I tried to burn a simple audio cd yesterday with nero.. a simple audio cd that ended up being a coaster cause it skipped like crazy. nero couldn't even burn an AUDIO CD without skipping! wtf!? i couldn't believe it.. i mean i think that it might have been the first coaster i burned in years. booted up itunes to burn again.. worked perfectly, of course. it boggles my mind that a cd/dvd burning app could fail at such an easy burning process. |

I am keeping to try every release of Nero 7 with hope. However it is still a disapointment for me. It still fails on too much DVD or CD burning process while nero 6 or alcohol %120 doesn't... Don't tell me that my hardware may have a problem. I have 3 different PCs with 5 different burners (3 CD-RW, 2 DVD-RW) from 3 manufacturers and all of them have loads of power for burning. It is just the software fails... I think Ahead is going to be another Nullsoft... They are losing and they don't see this... Installed it and it took up 170 megs which is not bad for a fully loaded app that I use most features. Compared with Roxio which used 1.4 GiB of space this thing is anorexic. For those that don't want the extra stuff just install what you want. Some complain at the 122 meg download but hell it's convienant to have a single updated file to download. Nero Rocks but I wish they would add a indexing app to the product like CD cataloguer or Where is it, that would be very useful. |

While I use other apps for most of my burning needs and Nero is huge, there are times where Nero is just what I need. So I always have at least the burning part installed. The parts I don't like (like the main UI) I leave out. But that is my choice. Another user may find what I don't like to be the most useful. At least Nero gives me the choice of what to install. I admit that Nero is LARGE, however you can pick and choose what you install. Nero 7 should have a basic version for purchase. Most of the problems people are having are NOT Nero's fault. Do people know what Nero is - 120 Megs is not just the CD burner, it about a dozen programs. From CD Burner, Backup, Label printing and tons of Video programs (which I use). The review isn't on the size but what it does. And this is about the most complete package. In todays standard for a hard drive 120 Megs isn't much. It's about 35 IPod songs :) |

I gave Nero an unfair review and I'm correcting that. I said it corrupted my computer. It turns out that it is a problem with the NVidia NForce 4 drivers creating issues with SATA drives using NCQ. I use many aspects of Nero and it works very, very well. I use it to burn data, images and dvd-video. I also create dvd's and MP4 files. I can turn MP4 files into divx-compatible files that play in my DVD player (LG-LDA 530) using MP4CAM2AVI. I tried all the other burning software and didn't know how good I had it until I went back to it. Nero continues to improve its software both in quality, features and ease of use. The Nero 7 Ultra suite is something many people should not be without. I do fault Nero for not putting out a low-cost solution with minimal functionality of version 7. I don't understand their reasoning here. I guess they expect people to use the older software which is still being bundled. Nero is an excellent programme, however they have made a serious judgement error when it comes to software included. Many people like myself just want the burning part of it, which is a fraction of the total 103mb+ download. Why would you want to download 100+mb each download when you only want 15mb of it? Sure they can have a complete package, but they should have the burning part separate for those of us that just want to use that. If I weren't a Nero user and had been using Roxio etc., there is no way that I would try Nero out as its now bloated and an unrealistic download. The second complaint I have is that the install seems to take much longer than it realistically should. This may be to do with the 300+ cab files chucked together in the main install file (use a programme like winrar you can view inside the install file). If they used a more efficient compression method they could easily cut it down to The third complaint is that this version doesn't even work properly. It says when loading it that some files are missing, and they're not included in the install or cab files (you can't use the older versions either). Might be related to the other install issues people have had. |

Still seems like there are bugs here, it works fine on some computers but on my laptop after burning a DVD it says there has been an internal error and would I like to send Nero the details, when I click yes I get another error message and then I cant shut Nero down, but it did burn the DVD without errors, and this version now has support for labelflash |

Pure s***e. It produced a fatal installation error in the last stages of the install and requested that the program be uninstalled. When I tried to do so through Add / Remove Programs, it errored out again. I used earlier versions of 7 and see no advantages (and several disadvantages) to using it over 6. It's treatment of audio CDs is uneven vis a vis the gaps between songs. ONE star for a pointless and buggy "upgrade". Avoid this. |

I hate the smart start window, it needs to be resizable. Scout should be an option. Otherwise Nero is still a great Burning ROM suite much superior to Roxio or others that are on the market. I love the new look and feel of version 7 and I have had no problems burning a cd or dvd with it. |

I too got the "Fatal Error: Installation corrupted - please reinstall NERO" error message from the 7.0.8.2 installer and neither Modify, Repair or Remove worked after that and I couldn´t reinstall 7.0.8.2 or the previous version either. Maybe it was a mistake not to shut down Firefox and iTunes when asked during installation. Anyway Nero 7 Clean Tool saved me from having to reinstall my computer or to change to another burning program all together. It´s just too bad Ahead doesn´t have a user- or support forum on the Nero website for help with stuff like this. |

Nero adds roughly 300KB to the registry on a medium install. By medium, I mean no Nero Home, Media Center, PhotoSnap. It definately has become a major pig. If you're handy with editing .msi files, it's not too difficult to remove Nero Scout. |

well the new 7 version looks like it works alright and I appreciate the option to not install what I don't use although the scout s*** should have been on that list too which it isn't. The installation size itsn't all that much worse than 6.x which is bad as it is of course. The thing that I totally hate is nero's use of the registry. Has anyone actually watched what is added to the registry during installation? We're talking about TONS AND TONS of s***. I counted to like 200 clsid's, and tons of other stuff, that's absolutely horrifying. This WILL slow your computer down, believe me, just add a few apps like these and your computer will CRAWL! If I jsut had a good option I'd say hasta la vista to nero but there simply isn't anything decent so it'll have to do but I'm NOT a fan of nero, not since many many versions ago. |

Very good product. I made a custom installation over the previous version and it kept my (partial) configuration. I cannot give a 5 vote because the Recode-too-big bug is still there: when I recode a DVD-9 movie in order to fit a standard DVD-5 media, sometimes the recoded files are too large. I can circumvent that by selecting a custom size of 4350-4370 Mb, and in some cases the resulting files are smaller than the real media capacity (lower quality). DVDShrink was perfect, as regards the size of recoded files. |

Problem installing it. When I try to install I get an error saying that I need write access in my %Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\....\tmp folder. I've reinstalled Windows and if Nero is one of the first programs to install it's okay, but sometimes later on if I need to reinstall it I get the above message. I've since gone to version 6.x and have no issues. For that reason, if I can't even INSTALL the program it gets a bad rating. Else, how am I supposed to even use it? |

I have used every part of Nero 7 Ultra with no issues, so I don't understand other people's problems. I found Nero to be very intuitive and fast. I did have some problems, then, when I did a lot of reading I discovered that many problems that people were associating with Nero were hardware or software problems. It turns out that a bad drive and an overheating chipset were my problems. Other reasons for problems include: bad CD/DVD media, optical drive, power supply or software issues. Windows XP frequently suffers from the same blame that Nero 7 does. Since the computer needs to be working almost perfectly to insure a good burn with no errors Nero 7 frequently receives the blame for other underlying problems that have not been detected. Nero 7 works excellent and I recommend it highly!! |

There is a bug in 6.6.0.18 and probably several versions: one can only add to an existing session ONCE no matter what. I always choose do not close to allow later files to be added but still it only lets you do it once. The next time I get the same type error you got. I have BENQ DVD DC DQ60, DMA is ON and was recording data cd but think that is irrelevant. Problem is with NERO software, adds more and more useless things to clutter up you hdrive and registry etc. and the basics get worse!! |

I bought version 7 because of the new features. A week later version 6 is updated. I feel as if I got jipped. Switched to Roxio EMC 7 and upgraded to version 8. I am enjoying it very much. Applications are alot easier to use than Nero and they work. My computer does not freeze or crash or ignores my cd/dvd drives as Nero did. Nero 7 still has the same problems as Nero 6. Roxio will remain on all my computers from now on. Only thing Nero can do for me is give me my money back! |

I recommend the last version of the 6 series over 7 (tested up to this version .14b). Introduced recently is a bug that occurs 1 out of every 3 burns an inability to close discs. This is easily reproduced on 3 of my systems (fresh install on one) and various burners (Plextor, Sony/Lite-on, and LG). Also introduced in the 7.x series is the horrible Nero scout which is forcefully installed and can only be removed with hacks. STICK TO VERSION SIX! |

No change since 4.0? Are you kidding? Recode, NeroVisions, DVD+DL support, support for LightScribe, NerobackitUp!... just to name a few of the more major changes. Version 7 has brought out several changes that are appreciated: Easy compilation of multiple AVI/MP4/Quicktime into a DVD with Menu features in NeroVision, NeroRecode. The newest thing I'm seeing is the now support for DiVX6 .divx files to import into NeroVision Express, as well as a tighter outbound compression scheme option in NeroBackup for FTP Usage. Both of which are welcome options. |

When I last reviewed version 6.6x, I finally had to dock points for the bloat. But since version 7.0x finally allows me to install ONLY the burning component, which brings the installed size down to 36.7 MB, I can no longer complain about bloat. Yes, I wish there were an installer package that contained ONLY the burning component, but I'm happy that I'm no longer forced to INSTALL any of the other stuff. I can only think those still complaining of bloat must somehow be overlooking the custom install option. |

Don't see what the problem is with the bloat for experienced users. They really upped the ante in their marketing scheme this time. They hope begginers will just install the entire package and have Ahead dominate their multimedia needs. If you have half a brain, keep what you whant, remove what you don't need. I only installed the burning rom and the tools. Disable nero net completely. Takes up 42mb of space. I give it 4 stars because they do not have an efficient update system in place yet... When you go to update in the menu, it gives "http unable to connect" errors. The "update" download on the nero site is still the 100mb package that contains everything. I only want a small package with the burning rom, that's it. And when you do run the update, it does not recognize that you need an update, it installs in the same folder but it names the setup as "Nero 7 Demo", not ultra or priemium or however when you install the retail package. Please let us download only the burning rom in updates, and make the system recognize that we only need an update (like in 6), and I will be happy. |

Looks fine, but why can't I install only the burning tool?? By the way, did anyone have any trouble with burning AUDIO disks with this version? For me it would burn an AUDIO disk with hiccups (like the disk is scratched) and with pause between tracks, although I specifed not to do so... I'll stick with the 6.6.0.16 ver. which works perfectly. |

Burning works perfect as expected, made some downloaded porno DVD's that work perfect on my home DVD player. Copied some DVD movies from images I have. Still does not give the option to make a WMA/MP3 CD, has to be one or the other, but that's an easy work around. Could not get it to detect any channels on either my DTV Wonder (kinda expected that) or my PVR150 in NERO Home. The only real difference that I can see is NERO HOME that I can't get to work. With broadband who cares about a 100mb file, took me a wopping 5 minutes to download using Getright. I bought a key at Best Buy for $60, I couldn't resist with all the nice new colors. |

This package makes me MAD ... Burning software that 100 mb to download, so after some months we could expect that NERO-destribution will be 700 mb, like Windows XP :) Bundles are fun anyway, but if I need only burning engine why should I download their stupid mediaplayer/soundeditor/Nero_Stupid_Start/InCD anything else ? Nero is going the way of Roxio, bloatware and slow. Nero now installs files in various folders on your system drive. Gone are the days of when software authors/companies would install all the related files in a single folder (drivers aside). All you had to do is run the exe file from wherever you originally installed the application and it would run. This was a real plus (assuming you install your critical apps on a non system drive) since reinstalling windows is common place. Ahead needs to come out with *lite* package that consists of just reading/ripping/burning dvds/cds and LEAVE out all the extra fluff aka label/covermaker, audio/video editor and plugins and skins. The fluff should be an optional upgrade package. Personally I still use the last v6.xxx version of Nero and have it stripped down to just ripping/burning dvds/cds and all the related files plus registery (modified to point to one folder) entries in one folder, size being 13MB. When windows gets reinstalled, run the reg file and nero works like a charm from drive D. |

Version 7.0 was a bit rushed out the door I suspect and this new version polishes up some the mistakes that they made. It told me to uninstall, so I did. I then installed the new Demo and it picked up my key. It seems a bit more polished and it includes InCD 5.0. |

First, this update/demo solves a lot of problems with the 7.0.0.0 version. Nero Burning Rom would crash if Nero Express was opened even once. Also, my Video was crashing in Nero Home and it seems to be working fine now. Yes, I had a lot of problems downloading. Nero is often completely bogged down when it releases updates. I used Getright and it took a while (five minutes)to start. It is best to use a download manager that will keep trying after it times out. |

It does what it says, but also includes lots of useless applications like Nero Home. IMHO they should offer a no-BS suite that only has Nero Burning ROM/Nero Express + Nero Tools which will probably end up being 30MB or so. Also, the lack of CD/DVD Image readers pisses me off aswell. |

I'm still bugged by the fact that you can't configure the column widths in the compilation windows and save them as the default. Every time I open up Nero, it resets the column widths to the default, which are not wide enough to begin with, especially the folder tree. I also don't like that it always defaults to adding the NERO BURNING ROM label, even after you repeatedly blank it out because you don't want it there. I would like it better if stayed as you configured it, perhaps with a checkbox in the options saying "Remember Window Sizes and Positions" or some such thing. That small criticism aside, Version 7 seems to work very well at data and video burning, at least so far. There are some minor issues with installation over 6.xx setups (having to remove, reboot, it locked up 2 times during that install attempt) but I think it is probably more reliable and functional than just about any other suite out there. Wish they had a leaner and cleaner version that only offered the core CD and DVD burning functionality, but still, it is a great app. |

a larger installer has nothing to do with the size of the application. nero 7 adds CUSTOM INSTALLATIONS where you can only install the components you want, which actually can make it significantly smaller than nero 6. additionally, nero burning rom actually uses more than 15% less memory on my system when burning an identical compilation compared to version 6. |

The download is big because it now includes everything that was previously 3 seperate downloads in version 6. It isn't just the Burning ROM anymore. You can pick and choose what to install though. Recode (the MP4 video encoder) is great. |

Had a scare with INCD5 not reading my DVD-RW that contains all my installed applications, but a PC restart took care of it. Other than that, everything else is working fine. xip: It's an all-in-one package, no more downloading 4 separate things to get all of Nero like in the past. |

Nero 7..I don't know if I got lucky or what?? I installed it, with my existing plugs, and everything I've done so far, burn CDs,and DVD, edit music, has worked. The DVD video-player has issues (leopard skining on movement) but that could be my codecs. There are some error messages popping up after I shutdown a feature, but again, that could be my own slovenly computing habits. As far as the size, well, the bloated, got..err bloatier, but it is pretty, and it does what a 1/2 dozen other programs do, in 1. Get it on sale, avoid a weak on-line moment, and you'll be 1 up on me. |

Ahead need to think releasing smaller update. so we did not need to download 30MB and install the new one, instead of that we can just download few mega and then install the patch But full download need to be there. on Nero OEM they need to add ability to back to the main windows if we failed to burn. now it is difficult and we need to start from zero |

Nero is a great program and getting the Express version with almost any CD/DVD burner you can buy is a god send. Fantastic. However, for my burner, chipset and processor I get better burns with CDBurnerXP Pro for data files (mostly .ape, .flac and .MP3) burnt to DVD and better results for dodgy media using burnatonce. That's no knock against Nero, just a note that it is good to have more than one iron in the fire. Especially if those irons are free. |

yokozuna, rate the program on how well it works, not on how often it is updated. What is wrong with that anyway, at least they support their software. You know you don't HAVE to download an update every time one is released. If your current version is working ok then leave it alone. That said, this is currently the most reliable burning program available in my opinion. |

Is Nero an antiviral tool? I am asking because it is so often updated that I have doubts. PS The site is always besieged by downloaders. No wonder if everybody is forced to download the full version of the program. Alternatively, the managing director of the company can check such words in Google: Akamai, BitTorrent. Shame on the company. PPS Banquo, sorry to say but I have to download it (what you can read below, it is another story) because Nero 6.6. never works properly with my DVD drive. When one problem is solved two other appear. Pity that I cannot use Nero 5.5 which orked very well. Moreover, I pay so I demand. Next time my money will go somewhere else. |

Since Ahead has plenty of energy to release updates almost weekly, how about addressing interface issues that I raised several years ago that still exist: 1: Change the entry field for 'Number of Copies' to a spinbox 2: The Explorer window (used to add files to a CD/DVD compilation) needs work. Making sure the columns stay where you moved them too would be a HUGE help (it gets very old resizing the columns EVERY time I start a new compilation); and how about placing the highlight bar back on the last selected entry in the Explorer listbox when starting a second (or more) compilation in the same session - the highlight bar always jumps to the first file/folder, even though the directory hasn't changed. 3: Add buttons to add/remove items to the CD/DVD compilation. If you add a ton of data to the new compilation it becomes tedious to drag the mouse all of the way to the bottom of the added file list (I know that Alt-1 will add data to the compilation, but that isn't exactly mouse friendly). Roxio got it right on their interface (but screwed up by not having a keyboard equivalent to add data). I've lost track of the number of times I accidently nested folders inside of another folder because I released the mouse button too quickly when adding data ;( 4: Add support to Nerovision Express for .RM, .DIVX and .MOV data files. 5. Add a text string at the bottom of a new CD/DVD compilation that tells the user how much free space is left for data to be added - the 'gauge' is extremely vague and tedious. |

small upgrades of nero is just to fix minor hardware issues and/or new features presented in the previous 6.6.0.15 release got fixed. you don't need to waste bandwith unless your nero is not working properly. remember a pirated key can produce a stack of costers. :P new features will be introduced in a >6.7 so there is no reason to panic here. |

I have been using Nero for sometime and have enjoyed it, but with all the updates that keep coming out and the download times that take forever, I decided to try Roxio 7.5. I was amazed with the ease of use and power of the program. I have not experienced any dud cd's/dvd's from burning and the program is packed with alot of great applications. As far as updates, the program was complete out the box. I am now using Roxio 7.5. If Nero is the best there is, Roxio is better. |

I would like to know why there is another release all of a sudden.. why no change log? So, another hour or so to download an update on a 7MB download connection? About them using BT for their upgrades, that would be the smartest thing in the world, but I swear, it is like all of these companies think that BT is from hell or something. BT was made for this sort of thing, why more companies don't take advantage of the technology is beyond me. I think it really boils down to them just not giving a ISH.. You would think they would get tired of their servers being pounded to a pulp and just throw the update on a tracker.. But, i'm giving it a 4 because nero is GREAT... best of the best in my opinion, but that is just my opinion. |

Several companies are now starting to use BitTorrent (officially) to distribute their software when a new release comes out. It means that everyone can get a download at decent speed, not constantly get timeouts on a single site as you get with Ahead when they update. |

I've now given up on nero. Nothing wrong with the actual writing but couldn't stand the excess bloat in the package. Fair enough if there was even some choice, but to force the whole thing upon the user is just insane. Anyway if you're getting this way inclined try BurnAtOnce. Its great. |

Its great for writing cds. but i wish the standard package had options of what to install. I don't want nero digital codecs (or in fact any codecs as anything i want to put on a cd, i'll have already viewed with the right codecs - leave this for the vision express package pleeeease). Also i'm only an oem user, so don't want back-it-up and stuff installed if it won't let me use it! |

I've been using Nero for 2+ years. It's a great app, but I wish it would show you the label of the CD you just finished burning. When burning tons of discs on multiple machines for delivery to a client, it's annoying to have to close Nero and check the CD to double-check what I just burned. But when it comes to making CDs and DVDs overall, it's great! The UI's a little clunky, but it works, and that's the most important part. |

Unfortunately I had to write that it is getting worse and worse. I remember good , ol' days when Nero (v5.5) was way better than all its competitors together. Nero 6.xxx has many bugs, and when some are problems solved other appear, e.g. the newest (6.6.0.8a) has problems with DVD+Rs when booktype is set to DVD-ROM. Checked with my NEC 3520 and my girlfriend's Pioneer A08. Nero 6.6xx has problems with mini CD-Rs (8 centimeter CDs). I informed Ahead about it and they wrote something like: "We know about it". Yeah, I know the bugs too, but so what? |

I like NERO a lot, but it often seems to compromise quality when I burn DVDS's. So, I always need to check the output quality. Other software seems to offer more high-quality burning options, but I still use NERO all the time. [Example- recoding from PAL to NTSC - nice option, but the result is often junky, or very low quaslity; other software does a better job here.] Agree with problems with other apps hijacking NERO settings & files. I've had to clean out & reinstall my copy three times now, with the below-referenced cleaner. [A simple uninstall won't do it.]Am giving it a 4 since there's definintely room for improvement, esp in video output quality. |

NERO is the best burning software that I have used. I tried Roxio for a while, and went right back to NERO. NERO does just about everything, even rip CD's & transcode different formats. They are slow, however, to post new changelogs to the software updates. I heard that there were some bugs in 6.6.0.8 that were addresed in 6.6.0.8a. They have a utility that uninstalls & cleans out the registry & driver settings, in the event your installation becomes corrupt. The tool is called "General Clean Tool", search for it on their site or check the FTP. On a couple of occasions, other third party software drivers hosed NERO on my system. Running the clean tool, re-booting, and reinstalling, fixed it. |

When I upgraded to 6.6.0.8 Nero Recode started crashing and I had to clean the registry and go back to 6.6.0.6. No notes yet on what 6.6.0.8a is suppose to fix so I’m staying with 6.6.0.6 for now. When they add the update notes for 6.6.0.8a I’ll give it a try if it mentions anything about the recode problem. Overall Nero deserves a 5, just not sure about this version yet. |

I agree with (most) all below, used Nero for a long time. Tried 6.x ....sucked! Bloated and complicated. Went back to the last 5.x version...5.5.10.56. Small, simple, easy, does what it's suppose to do. Oh, and by the way, it DOES support DVD. File > New > in the upper left corner, there is a drop down box that let's you select CD or DVD to create. I've been burning DVD's with it for over a year now. Never a complaint. |

I have not liked Nero 6 much at all over 5.5 - until this particular release. It really seems to have taken care of most of the issues that have bugged me over time and I think I'm finally ready to remove 5.5 off my system and stick with this version. Now I just need to march down to CompUSA and get that $50 special after instant and mail in rebate. I do hate that I can't buy just the Burning ROM basic app. I don't want all that extra stuff. Wish they had like a $29 version with just the Nero Burning ROM core application so we did not have to fork out so much cash for that extra shovelware. Still, it's way better than anything named Roxio. :p |

So the reviews below are...this program is the best, this program rocks, nothing comes close. Then people give it a bad rating because they have updates all the time. And complain it takes too long. IF it's working (which it sounds like it is), don't do then update then. It's simple, just say no :) Most of the updates are for added support to new CD and DVD burners. Most of the updates you don't even need. Personally, I would rather have updates then none. |

the reason for frequent updates is ofcourse caused by all nero users bits & pieces. another day another usb/internal/external dvd/cd-+rw they better keep up to date with all new things. and while they're doing that they blacklist keygen & serials. If you use a pirated serial (you really shouldn't) beware of it acting like its working but giving you a coaster every now and then. OEM versions of nero is around 5-8USD so why bother searching for serials :( if you think nero is updating too often consider swithing os, windows updates all the time. |

Probably the best burning software out there. I wouldnt care if they updated weekly. The more the better But cant these people, for how good their product is, get more bandwidth for downloads? Whats the purpose of updating frequently if your customers cant even download the patches. Real "simpleminded" too that he who suggest its simpler to not update if it takes an HOUR to download a patch that is only 30 megs on a 4Mb cable line. How narrowminded indeed to be complacent with poor service, when you should be demanding good service instead. |

I like Nero a lot. However, Ahead Software is a pain in the "you know what" with all of these updates (sometimes weekly). I wonder if it's always nessesary to update it. I think most of the time, they are just adding CD/DVD drives compatabilty for newer drives. |

I used to love Nero, but lately the builds seem to get bloated and more buggy. I really hate the wizards that nero provides. It seems that the only thing they work on are the wizards in these latest builds. I think Ahead should concentrate more on the actual cd burning application than the bundled applications that go along with it. Most of them aren't really good anyway. I would really like to see CD/DVD image support on par with Alcohol 120%, that would be a big improvement in my opinion. |

I love Nero Burning ROM. I've been using it for years, since version 4.0. I used to use Easy CD Creator, but had a multitude of problems with that program. DVD's were supported in Nero since version 6. I also like Nero, because it does it all; burns CD's & DVD'd, Rips CD's, Convert's & Encodes Files (.wav, .mp3, etc.). Everyone that I've introduced Nero to, winds up really liking it. |

I'll be honest--I never have liked Nero. I've used version 4 and 5 and recently version 6 and I have to say this version is pretty bad. It is harder to change the CD format if you change your mind while setting up the options, the interface lacks many features version 5 has, and this is the first time Nero has ever given me errors with a working cd-rw drive (I've updated the version and it still occurrs, when burning an enhanced cd app hangs.). About the only thing I would use Nero for I now use CloneCD for instead, now I'll just stay away from it. |

Yes, you are right. Nowadays, programs grow bigger and bigger. A lot of features, but all I want is an easy program, I can install with only the features I like. For the most purposes, I use WinXP for burning data thru explorer, and mediaplayer for music. For burning DVD I use Nero. |

Nero 5 was a leading product. Nero 6 has many features which not everyone is interested in, but the user is not able to select which components to install. Sorry to tell but. Once Nero was amasing software. Very little CPU etc. footprint. Not buggy at all. But after sotting developing 5.x.x.x versions and releasing 6.x.x.x versions the problems begun to rose for me. nero 6.x.x.x compared to 5.x.x.x is Sooo slow, filebrowser is as slow as hell :( I wrote to Ahead since I noticed that issue (this issue is not only in my config but rather on 5 different PCs i installed it) but they didn't even bother to answer :( Untill now I used trusty v 5.x.x.x of nero but I recently bought DVD writer and was forced to use 6.x.x.x but hell it's slow :( So I'll give a try to WinOnCD 6 DVD edition. WinOnCD was my favorite loong time ago. |

People who claim that nero is bloated and buggy are clueless. Their burning engine is one of the best available. If you don't like the colorful interfaces, the wizards written for grandma, or all the additional software it installs by default, then DON'T USE IT. You can use classic mode. You can extract the installer and only use the Nero folder. The executable nero.exe uses a whopping 10MB ram -- how bloated! You can smell the ignorance... ...and about the frequent updates, try reading the changelog. Many updates are device support. If you use Roxio products as an example of code that doesn't need bug fixes, you are completely clueless and ignorant. Roxio writes horrendous software that has caused systems to become inoperable. They have had more problems and errors than any other software company in existence. I guess the fact that they rarely update their software falls into the same category as "if you can't see it, it doesn't exist." Get a clue people. |

I don't mind some of the functionality of Nero. But I get sick of the bulky updates every month. With Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 you get an update only every 6-8 months. Yes the individual Roxio update is bigger, but 8 months of Nero updates is a lot more that the one Roxio update. I don't mind Nero bug fixing, but EVERY MONTH? A well written programme shouldn't have that many bugs needing fixing so regularly. |

I don't use 70% of the features in this product, but I don't mind them being there. I dislike the attitude of "we'll fix it once a month forever," but then again I've never had a problem with even the first versions of 5 and 6. Unlike Microsoft's Office Team which has released the same stuff for the past 5 years since Office 2000 came out, this product has useful features that have been added, free, for years now. Can't complain about that. |

lol what a joke this software is. wouldnt be surprised if it was a microsof product. 70 meg and uses half of your computer resources when you can have the job done with softs that are less than 1 meg, do not need install, and cost 20$ (e.g. complete CD/DVD, recordius) or even free (burn at once etc). another good developper (i remember the excellent first vesrion of nero which saved us from roxio products) who turned out towards average-computer-user, fat, fancy looking, expensive useless products. ABSOLUTELY not true! You must be a registered user and either have it currently installed on your system, or have a valid serial number is all. THIS UPGRADE INSTALLS JUST FINE over v.6.3.3, and it's a significant upgrade indeed. I can use any burning software but I choose Nero because of its reliability. WARNING: Some licensed users of Nero 6 are being locked out of the software after upgrading to 6.6.0.1 from a prior version. After upgrading from Nero 6.3.1.25, I got an error stating that "Nero has detected an attempt at non-licensed usage". Why? A bug in the new version. And it takes at least 5 days to get back into the software, because there are SO MANY users affected. Isn't that special? Why use this? I'll give you several reasons. Because it's versatile. Because it's compatible with a large variety of hardware. Because it burns CDs and DVDs effortlessly, unlike DeepBurner which on some burners (in my case no less than a *Plextor*) is unable to turn out an audio CD without two second gaps between tracks (yes, DAO is broken and so badly that the authors can't seem to fix it after several attempts). Because the author of DVD Shrink now works for Ahead and will continue to refine the code now that DVD Shrink is disco'd and will evolve no further. Because it's always going to be more reliable than Roxio garbage. Note to the person still using CDRWin: I guess you don't do very complicated things with the program. Not only does that program have the worst interface I have ever seen in a burning program but it's hideously overpriced and behind the times in functionality. I'd never give it to a new user with a DVD drive. I would give that user Nero. |

Why would anyone want to pay $69.99 for this bloatware ( 70 mb ) when they could burn cd's dvd's, audio & video for free with Deep Burner ? Deep Burner is only a 2.6 mb download , it uses almost no resources, its a small program that gets the job done and does it well. This Nero program is just so far out in left field its out of the ball park now. A few years ago I used it because it came bundled with my cd burner but if you want to play audio, there are tons of free audio players. If you want to rip cd's or dvd's there are many freeware programs out there that do it. Sorry Nero but at this price you should do windows and cook dinner as well. I rate it 1 and would never spend $70 just to burn some cd's, not when there are so many other programs available at less than half the price that will do the job. |

Go on my favourite CD Burner software. Nero. There's only one thing that I've not been able to see in Nero that makes me use Roxio, and that's the idea of splitting content to burn (if more than a cd) into several CDs and you'll be able to select which one you want at a later time. Nero hasn't include this feature. I'll love to see this so that I can stop using Roxio now and forever. |

Downloaded and installed the commercial upgrade. Nero always did impress me - with it's simplicity. An annoying bug in Nero Express has been fixed - the Preferences tab doesn't cause the program to hang. This was a known bug but it's good to see it fixed. Their tech-support gets a "5" as well (just as a little bonus.) |

httpd.confused: huge size? Less than 30mb is not huge, considering Roxio's Creator is more than 5 times that size. It takes 60-70mb disk space, which is nothing on a 40gb or greater hard disk. Anyhow, this is still easily the best CD burning suite. Nero can be as simple or complicated as you want it to be. |

My feelings about Nero haven't changed, but I'll rate it with a 5 this time just to offset the ridiculous post below this one. CDBurnerXP Pro is highly regarded because it's free. Period. But in a technical sense, it's a mere shadow of Nero (and a buggy one at that). When it works as billed, and has almost half of Nero's feature set, then I'll change my mind on it. On another note, why is it that Ahead Software's support is so awful? I think I've given them enough hard-earned cash to deserve more than what they offer. |

I take off two points only because: (A) It's huge in size, both in download size and on disk after installation; (B) They make the downloading of the product and updates as confusing as possible, with three billion different downloads for this-and-that component, and half a dozen different update packages, and; (C) They make you screw around with stupid user guide (PDF), help file (CHM), and other downloads. It's really inconvenient and aggravating to go to use the Help menu, to get nothing but a message that says the help file could not be found, and then have to hunt the help files down on the Ahead Software site, download a couple more huge files (which are disguised as "Language Packs", for some stupid reason), and install them. I'm sure they do this because the product is already so bloated, but they could still make it much easier than they do. |

This is a good release, it is much more stable when using Windows XP SP2 RC2. There is a slight problem with one of the upgraded files. NOD32 and F-Prot identify the msa.dll file as a possible CRYPT.WIN32 virus file during installation. The warning appears again when opening the SoundTrax program. I've reported this issue to Eset (NOD32), and it should be addressed in an upcoming .dat update. Overall, it's another good release. Just watch your antivirus heuristics levels. |

I used Adaptec/Roxio the first year I had a CD burner, and almost never had an error-free burn. Since switching to Nero, I've never had a CD burning error, and only minor DVD errors. For reliability, ease-of-use, and frequency of updates, I don't think it can be topped. It's rare to find a piece of software that's so clearly the best in its category, but here you have it. |

A functional programme. But I prefer Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.0 which is a far more complete set of audio/video tools. The Roxio suite is integrated rather than the add on packages making up Nero. Granted Nero is over-all a much smaller package. But I prefer one update file to patch the suite rather than multiple updates as for Nero. The Drag & Drop packet writing application in Roxio EMC7 is far superior and more stable than InCD. |

I have used nero since 5.x days. I used to use Roxio but it never really compared. I really respect how Nero has grown into what it has grown to. I have one major peeve with it; it no longer seems to come with the DVD plugin. I bought nero 6.0 ultra which I don't think has recode with it, but 6.3 up does and with the 6.3 update I think it disabled or deleted the plugin, or something - because I can't use nero recode without having to buy a plugin, a plugin which on nero's own website is claimed to be included with any purchased nero ultra package. It doesn't affect the score or how I see nero's performance however - Nero 6 CD and DVD Rom burner does just that, and does it with flying colors. |

A good utility (albeit bloated), but NO TWAIN SUPPORT (per Ahead, "a known issue that we're working on")!?! Ahead's selling something that it knows doesn't work? One of the best seller although that makes me wonder why. 20MB update and an installer that installs everything filling my computer with crap like audio editor, cover designer and the rest toys. I never undrstood why Nero developers don't offer a "burning only" deployment for those who hate bloatware apps and countless utilities like those bundled in Nero's setup. A custom install would be nice. Also they should redesign Nero's user interface. |

Good suite of programs that are continually improved by the developers. Not really 'Bloatware'. There are separate programs to do different tasks and the suite needs to be comprehensive to be competitive in the marketplace. Too bad for all those with warez keys... but don't mark the program down because you can't get the latest version for nothing the moment it's released. |

I have to say that this version has come a long way but it needs to be more compatible with externel dvd-/+ r/rw and CD-r/rw. i have been trying to make a back up image of my computer system and all i get is errors. but in all this is the only software that i really use for all most all my work. |

where are the days of nero 4? That program kicked a** & wasn't a cpu-eater. Nero 5 was heavier but i really liked it alot, 'cuz of its heavy features it held. But now, Nero 6 has become bloatware in my own (humble) opinion. The features are almost all the same, and it eats ur cpu like there's no tomorrow. I'll stick to the 5.5.x versions thank u. |

I bought this program and it was a mistake. First of all, I had to re-register it after upgrade from 6.009 to 6.028 but I could not do it, because my sn refused to work. The company does not know how to do it and left me with the problem :-(. Should I crack Nero :-( ? The other thing - it is a horrible piece of bloatware wasted a lot of disk space and even more resources of my computer. I installed DeepBurner - fast, freeware, and powerful. And now I am happy. |
