If you use the Home (Free) Version Get #4.8.1351 also of August 20 2009 and avoid the 5.0 Home Beta as it needs development. This is the only Version FileForum lists, so also download from Avast.com I download alot and get many weird Emails; I have used both Avast Free & Pro. They have always guarded my machines for 5 years without problems. |

"The best there is and now also equipped with heuristics" Do not use Kaspersky, Norton, Nod 32, Bitdefender, AVG etc. use Avast and you will have a pc that is malware free and a program which is reliable and just works. The program has a lot of features which many other lacks, features which are essential in the fight against malware. I have been in contact with the company behind Avast named Alwil and they have informed me that since version 4.8 Avast is equipped with heuristics. They are planning to announce this together with other new features related to heuristics in the third quarter of 2009. Avast is a protective fortress with all its shields and will protect your pc against viruses, spyware, adware, rootkits and other malware. I have used Avast for nearly four years in different computers and it always work reliably and have kept them free from viruses. Avast has a lot of cool skins to choose from. Better than Norton. However, for the extremely lazy Warcrafters who don't have the brain power to run a scan, I still have yet to find you the perfect Anti Virus that will scan and breathe for you automatically. If Avast programmers could get it to update, restart and scan automatically when screen saver goes on, it may sell more copies. Another batch setting would be for it to update and restart the PC in boot scan and after the scan completes, either shut down or boot to Stand By or Hibernate. :) |

This was my favorite antivirus program, but for some reason the latest version keeps asking me to restart every time it updates the virus definitions. |

Great program, reliable and all the features that a good AV needs I sorta wish the script blocking extended into other browsers, I haven't had a problem with it but Firefox support and other browsers that use IE like Maxthon and Avant support would be nice. |

im very satisfied with this software, it actually does detect harmful viruses and spywares that usually other av programs cant! for example: while others cant seem to clean or repair brontox worms, avast did it like a champ.. thru its boot scan (before windows is loading!) and im impressed with its autoupdate features too, very user friendly.. awesome av! p/s: mistakenly reviewed the non-pro version.. ;) |

One of the best antivirus software around. It seems to be quite reliable with its regular automatic online updates of virus definitions (sometimes twice a day). I switched to Avast from Norton which took SIGNIFICANTLY more of my computer resources than this program and was EXTREMELY slow. Avast works very quickly. It has quite unusual but convenient interface (in pro edition you can switch to more conventional enhanced user interface). I have checked this app with several testing tools and it has passed all the exams. I have already been using Avast during several months and so far haven't noticed any cons. |

I find it simply hilarious that avast! Professional Edition is rated LOWER than avast! Home Edition by the users on this site. Consider that Professional is nearly the same product as Home, with more features. |

EXCELLENT! i decided i needed a change from AVG. This is definitly the change i woz looking 4. It does everything AVG does and it has a great GUI. hardly uses up resources. Boot time is great. I love the update audio file :) Definitly a great overall antivirus program |

This is the ONLY virus scanner currently available for the Windows 64-bit XP OS that i am running. It was easy to install and run, time will tell if it works well in the 64-bit environment. |

Reference Zankur's comment- ZA's security suite uses EZ Antivirus by etrust as its antivirus. EZ is fair on viruses; weak against trojans & worms. See test report HERE where ZA suite ranked 30th & Avast ranked 21st. This is not my favorite test, but etrust does not make its EZ & VET scanners available to testers for testing, except for Virus Bulletin. The latter tests only ITW viruses, not trojans, worms, et alia. The fact that etrust is so seldom tested is, to me, a suspect factor. Thus, I would not use the ZA suite because it includes that AV. As for Avast PRO -- it is presently a somewhat-better-than-average AV. The proponent thereof (Alwil) is steadily strengthening this AV (engine plus signatures) so that is improving at a more rapid pace than many of its competitors. For objective data on Avast...
