Outdated and contains unpatched security vulnerabilities. Windows XP SP2 uninstalls this for a reason. Do NOT install this unless you want "drive by" spyware. Install Sun's Java instead - much safer. |

To be honest, I've yet to try this version. But I hope and pray it's more stable and less sluggish than the Sun VM. Sun, completely on its own, has made me shudder whenever I have to use a Java app. Alas, excellent programs like Freemind come in no other favlour, so I'm forced to use Java. If only Sun would develop a version of Java that doesn't appear to be dragging a program through molasses. |

This first Review from donpacman Apr 11, 2003 was prophetically right about MSJVM (Microsoft Java Virtual Machine) Version: 5.00.3810 He said "If you have a MS system I would download this (VM) and keep it because a judge will stop MS from distributing VM and we'll have to use that garbage from SUN" Today 30Sep2004, With Windows 2000 Service Pack 4: 1) The Microsoft Update Q816093_W2K_SP4_X86_EN.exe REFUSES TO INSTALL, 2) Microsoft's MSJVM alternative HAVE ALL BEEN WITHDRAWN (no msjavwu.exe version 5.00.3810 is available from microsoft.com) 3) So your only alternative is this download (MSJavWU_8073687b82d41db93f4c2a04af2b34d.exe) which you should rename msjavwu.exe for Win2000 SP4 to accept it. 4) The Sun J2RE (Java Runtime Environment j2re-1_4_2_05-windows-i586-p.exe) works OK on XP SP1 BUT refuses to decompress/unzip on 2 different Win2000 SP4 PC/Laptop with an error "Failed to extract file 'Dll_.ini' from the binary table." in windows "InstallShield DLL Custom Action" See the brilliant forum/article: http://www.mcse.ms/message1062959.html entitled "XP SP2 and Sun Java Plugin" but which, in fact, covers all Windows and Java (Sun/MS/..) problems. No problem with Sun Java 2 here and I am runing it on AMD Athlon 900. I have much more trouble with MS Java as it is not vritten by Java specification and many things are broken with it. No wonder Java gets bad name when people use this MS version which is really bad. |

I have an office pc with the specs; msi 6378, 512 sdram (8mb used by integrated video), 1.2ghz duron. Judging by the specs above, I assumed I could run Sun's Java v1.4.x smoothly, but NO. When I use Sun's java, the applets run but the graphics inside the applet are messed up. It seems that Sun's Java with my specs isnt able to make a video refresh whilst the graphics inside the applet are missed up. Now, DO I NEED A GAMER PC (32mb+ video card) TO RUN A LOUSY JAVA APPLET? Comparing to MSJVM, MSJVM runs the same applet fine in my old Pentium 200MMX PC. |

I find it funny that people even use the MSJVM. donpacman mentions above that when MS is forced to stop distributing it's VM then we will all have to use Sun's "garbage"... You do recall that Sun invented Java don't you? That would be like Sun piecing together a half-working, non-compliant distro of the .NET Framework & offering it for download. It's just silly. Oh, and thats not to mention the fact that when MS licensed the code from Sun way back in 98 (was it?) one of the provisions of the license was that MS could not update the VM any other than to provide security updates. So this means that all of the bugs that are fixed in this release of the VM were probably fixed X years ago in the "real" Java VM. It's also common knowledge among Java developers (of which I am one) that the MSVM is one of the reasons that Java is looked upon so poorly. Having to handicapp your code to work in it is horrible, and BTW, Java code runs MUCH more reliably (and a bit faster too) on the true Sun JM. |

this file is on the windowsupdate website, it was released because someone with way too much time found a new bug in the microsoft VM. |

I see the Microsoft haters are out to 'rate' another free release from MS. It's a JVM, what are you expecting? Java is a slow crappy language. MS does the best it can in making it work. I'd rather use this tghan the ever lousy Sun plugin. Oh, if you are going to say somethign is 'crappy' please be more informative. What is crappy about it? Or are you not able to exprees more complete thoughts? |

the only reason i use this crap is because it is so old and cut down of features, that i am able to use it on an old 333mhz 64mb laptop, and only to display java applets |
