Amazing tagging software, makes organizing a collection sooo much easier. Especially if you go to the forums and get or update the scripts people write for it. You still have to tweak things your own way, but at least it's not as unfriendly as foobar2000!. I'd also highly recommend Album Art Downloader (for grabbing covers), Mixmeister BPM analyzer if you want BPMs tagged, and the lyricsplugin ( http://www.hydrogenaudio...dex.php?showtopic=62821) for getting lyrics in foobar2000 (I think the lyricswiki part is broken; also remember to set the lyrics to store in the UNSYNCEDLYRICS field for compatibility). I also use foobar2000 for setting replaygain in tags. |

The addition of the cover only download is good. It doesn't help much for smaller indie bands sch as "Low of the Low" or "Venomin James." For those who listen to Britney Spears though will be quite pleased. In other news, I told Mm about the slob of a brother. You should have seen the welts on his ass. She beat him up much worse then the time Hulk Hogan went up against that 500lb Panda Bear for the WWF/WWE Unified heavyweight belt where the winner got the belt and the right to use their likeness in the "Save the HGH" campaign. |

When it comes to mp3 tags I'm a perfectionist and HATE improper naming of my music, that has grown to 30K+ files from 10 years of torrent downloading. So I've tried lots of different programs to do clean up all the variations of incorrect or missing tags, and the best tool for this job is without no doubt Mp3tag! Easy, fast, and free! Thanks to Florian Heidenreich for this brilliant program! |

I could kiss the man who wrote this beautiful piece of art. Seriously, it is that good at what it does. It works. It works so well, i've been re-tagging and sorting 30+gb of data, nearly nonstop without a single hitch or hiccup. It does not crash. It does what it does very, very well. The ability to add external programs makes this one of the most powerful programs i've seen yet to tame your collection of legally owned mp3s. It's very easy to use, although I wish I could find a good guide on how to add external programs/tools. Sweet! I've also found that if you are having a tough time finding matches, as a last ditch effort try FreeDB/web search. Once that straightens out your files you can try it again with amazon or discogs. That's worked more than a few times for me. |

Simply the best tool for masstagging large collections of audio files (not just mp3!). I set up several "Actions" and with the click of a button, all those actions are performed at once on any number of files. The feature set is far beyond any in-player tag editor. I even prefer it to foobar2000's masstagger. Frequently updated with new features and fixes as well. Couldn't ask for more. |

I have found this to be the MP3 tag editor of choice. It uses very little resources and has exhaustive options to organize your MP3 library relatively easy. If there's one glaring issue I've had with MP3tag since its inception it's the _very small_ toolbar icons. It would be nice to have larger icons available with text as an option. |

If you want to stick with win2k...that's your choice. However, dont down rate a software because you are too much of a poofter to upgrade after 9 years. Its the same logic if you had a car that used regular gas, and you complained about how bad every gas station was because they didnt have your gas. Powerful tagger tool. With features like autonumbering, cover art importing, tagging based of file name, renaming tool, plus the script support with which i used both the Amazon & Walmart cover art scripts, this is a solid and great tool. There are only 3 things i would wish it would support for the future: Chiptunes (SPC, NSF, PSF, etc); Lyrics (only sees the tag, can't view/edit); mp3gain support (only sees the tag, can't do anything with it) Thats the only 'Limited' functionality i see. Would also be nice to see a full Linux port instead of using WINE. EAVES: Mp3tag WILL work in 2000. The installer rejects 2K but if you can copy the install folder from an XP User, or a Linux user running WINE, to your 2K machine you're good to go. |

It's a great, simple to use, always updated and reliable mp3 tagger. It even made me change from a shareware I was using some years ago. Note that even Microsoft has a time frame to support an operation system. You can't blame the author to stop supporting a 8 years old OS. Ridiculously awesome, it's both simple and customizable. I'm very glad I tried it. Just started using the last.fm source from the forums, now I don't have to think about what to put for genre in the tags anymore, I used to just leave it blank. But blank isn't so useful when using a portable mp3 player. The discogs sources you can get in the forum seem good too. I wish I'd had all this functionality in a package this simple years ago. I wish it had some of my favorite features from MP3-Info Extension too, like adding mp3 icons for windows, but that may be overreaching a bit. |

It works and the price is right, but it gets sluggish if you load thousands of songs into it. The RAM usage also goes through the roof. It uses ~80MB of memory with 9,500 songs loaded. Surely the tags don't take up a fraction of this much space. Another problem is that the program rescans every file when I load it. It should be able to cache the tag information and rescan only changed files since last restart. When I pull tags from FreeDB or Amazon, it's very slow to add the tags to the files. An album with 20 tracks can take up to 30 seconds or more to tag. This can get very annoying when you're trying to get tags for many albums. Still, I use this program because I haven't found anything better yet. I'm open for suggestions though. |

I've written before, and doubtless will again, that this is simply the best program of its type. It's smaller and has a cleaner interface than either of the two alternatives mentioned in recent reviews here. Not to intentionally tear-down other people's choices, to which they certainly have their rights, but one really can't compare this program to Mp3/Tag Studio, because: Mp3/Tag Studio isn't just a tagger, it includes cutting and joining functions of the kind done so well for free by MP3DirectCut. Mp3/Tag Studio is only designed to work with MP3 files and only with ID3 tags. If, like me, you have other many other file types (Ogg, Musepack, AAC/MP4, or ANY lossless formats), then you'll probably want a tagger that handles them all, which Mp3tag does and Mp3/Tag Studio does not. As a final consideration, remember that Mp3tag is freeware. Mp3/Tag Studio is either adware or $19 shareware, depending upon which download you choose. All these points converge to make Mp3tag the clear winner. To any who've never used it, please do try it, odds are your search for a tagger will then be at a very happy end. |

Simply the best program of its kind. ID3-TagIt isn't really even the same sort of program, since it is designed to work ONLY with ID3 tags. For those of us who have files in our collections that can/must use other tag formats (Vorbis, AAC, MusePack, Speex, and several lossless formats, for example), Mp3 tag can deal with All these AND ID3, up to and including v. 2.4 unicode. |

meteecee, I used to use ID3Tag-it but mp3tag is the best tool of it's kind. It's very extensible and intuative compared to most others (and that inclused tag&rename and godfather too!). Very useful feature I have been using it for lately was to remove all unwanted fields from all my music files at once, and also removing unwanted tag types (lyrics3, ape, etc.) so I am just left with what I actually use. |

My only complaint about MP3Tag was that it was too slow to read and modify OGG files (I don't know about MP3's), but that seems to have been fixed in recent releases. This app makes it really easy to modify tags one at a time or in groups. One of the most useful apps I have. |

Great Tagger. Used to use TagScanner but I found the interface and setup of Mp3Tag to be much more efficient. A tool should have functionallity with an interface that compliments that. Though I really wonder what Anomonly is looking for in a tagging program. Something that works or something catches his eye so he can't realize how much his current program sucks. Great Program!!! |

After using this program for only a few minutes, I knew it was the best in its class. I've tried many others, but very few make it as easy or simplistic to edit a whole album's mp3 tags. The freedb search is great, although they could add a back button to the confirmation dialog in case the result you selected didnt match your tastes. Also, add a freedb listing to the right click menu so you can right click your list of files and choose freedb. Other than that, top notch. Good job! |

I really wish I could give this 4.5, but I don't think it deserves 5. I've been using this utility for over a year now. It's a great little program and above all it's free, but I would think after how long it's been around, some of the more obvious bugs would have long ago been resolved. It seems as though the rapid fire release schedule this has been on lately reintroduces bugs sometimes. When I read the change log I just can't believe some of the showstoppers that were fixed in relation to how long the program has been available. But as I stated earlier, it is a fantastic program and I'm incredibly greatful that the author does have the desire to further develop it. |

It's hardly fair to blame FreeDb server problems on an application that just uses FreeDb. This is the best tagging app. available. The two most frequent complaints against it, at least among those here, seem to've been lack of unicode support and lack of Amazon support for gathering tag info. Both those things have now been added, so I hope it'll be happily used by even more people. As I've said before, If you actually want your tagger to also serve as an organizer, encoder, and converter, then yes, you should try The Godfather. But, if you, like me, want your tagger to just be a great tagger, I doubt you'll find one better than this. |

The Godfather is a nice application for those who want/need their audio file tagger to also serve as an organizer/catalog, and an encoder/decoder/ transcoder. For those who DON'T want their tagger doing all that, like me, Mp3tag is a much better choice. It also supports WMA for those who use it; I never will, but the support is there, and unicode, which is very important given the advent of the unicode-only version of foobar2000. |

Because we westerners can write documents solely using 8 bits encoding (e.g. ISO-8859) does not mean that every one in the world can do so. In fact, Unicode has been created to match worldwide (i.e. multi-cultural) requirements. Thus, the fact that the guy below is disappointed because Unicode is not supported (e.g. Chinese) is indeed a completely valid reason to take points out the rating. Moreover, a 3 is an average rating. If I was in his/her shoes, since the program would fail on all counts, I'd have given it less. Since it does meet my expectations though, I do rate it a 5 personally. |

Just to make my last post a bit clearer... When I responded to Kyle_Katarn, he had given Mp3tag a 2 rating and his post didn't include: "I'm the developper of K-MP3. I'm not posting here to promote my app. I'm just doing it to correct the erroneous post that have been made be someone else. that's why i give a 5 to this app anyway ..." I don't know how he was able to edit his post to change the score and add the above statement... Is there a way to actually do this? |

Mp3tag has support for AMG, artistdirect.com, discogs.com and musicbrainz.org via the Web Source Framework and it's easy to build a custom web source for amazon.com. Just suggest this on the forums and someone will do that. There is also an external tool called Amazon Cover Downloader which can also be found at the forums. |

Though it’s free it’s not for me, as it doesn’t import information from Amazon. That’s why I prefer mp3Tag (of ManiacTools), that has more convenient interface and besides, what is also very important, it can automatically search for lyrics and album covers. http://www.maniactools.c..._tags_from_amazon.shtml http://www.maniactools.c...tag/lyrics_search.shtml http://www.maniactools.c...ft/mp3tag/picture.shtml |

Kyle_Katarn wrote: "Unlike what has been said, K-MP3 is FREE and has much more possibilities than this app." Are you Kyle_Katarn, Administrator of the KC Softwares forum and developer of K-MP3? http://www.kcsoftwares.c...e4fba218&showuser=1 It's really lame that you actually rate and comment on a competitor. Most people at FileForum find this rather distasteful. It's definitely not a good way to win converts... |

Unlike what has been said, K-MP3 is FREE and has much more possibilities than this app. Only K-MP3 "Expert" costs 14.99E, and has *even more* features and is not comparable with a simple tag editor. I'm the developper of K-MP3. I'm not posting here to promote my app. I'm just doing it to correct the erroneous post that have been made be someone else. that's why i give a 5 to this app anyway ... |

I always liked this utility. It packs in a lot of features and it's free :-) Someone earlier said it's not as good as K-MP3. Well, K-MP3 is 14.99 Euro to buy and MP3TAG is free. While K-MP3 may be the better product, you have to ask whether it is 14.99 better. |

Just got done organizing my music and this makes proper tagging really fast, It does alittle bit more than just tag, if you rename files you have to remake the playlist, and this program will make playlists for you. And if your mp3's are in a proper name format then the filename > tag feature is really good. Although I like to do each mp3 manually myself, to ensure title and track# is right. If you want to give your mp3's proper tags this program is the best and fastest way to do so. |

This does it automatically, just load the directory of the files, file > playlist(all) and thats it. I am very happy with this program. It is easy to use, flexible, and can be automated without spending a lot of time. I am blind, and every feature in this program has keyboard support. to fiftycal : maybe you dont seem having seen the button marked with "query cddb database"... everything is automatic, even if you dont know the cd name and track titles, it gives you the opportunity to search by mp3 lenghts and choose one from a list of possibilities... if this is not streamlined... please do not post opinions if you have checked out the program for less than 5 secs... |

| fiftycal | Dec 11, 2004 | 2.27a | ![]() 3 out of 5 |
Isn't that the point of a rating system? To rate software to your preferences? And isn't "fast and streamlined" your personal preference? I'm not asking for a pile of bloat, I just really like the convenience of getting all the album info from Amazon and having all the tags filled out automatically. If you think typing them out manually is "fast and streamlined" then more power to you. Until this feature is added, my rating stands. |

Man, I can't get over the silliness of some of these reviews. Amazon Support? Beefs with the fact that it uses an installer? People, give your heads a shake! This is a MP3 and file *tagger*. You want a multimedia library application? Use Winamp, MusicMatch, the iTunes crap or some other example of bloat. Pound for pound, this applications kicks serious butt in terms of functionality against all comers. It's bug free too which is more than the vast majority of the others (especially the bloatware junk) can claim. If you don't like streamlined, tightly written apps that do their job superlatively, that's your wont (and loss) but don't dis an app that does because of your own "preferences". |
| fiftycal | Nov 30, 2004 | 2.26f Beta | ![]() 3 out of 5 |
Why do all the positive reviews sound like tag-lines from a website? Anyway, I like this program but until it adds Amazon support (like Tag&Rename) I won't be using it. Very solid but lacking some important features. |
| TomRC | Nov 30, 2004 | 2.26f Beta | ![]() 5 out of 5 |
@rrtn: The only thing thats lame is your poor review. Mp3Tag is certainly more comfortable and powerfull than the most small standalone apps. Ok, you can write texts with the notepad but if want more you will use a office suite ( For example OOo ;). And Mp3Tag is not bloated its nearly almighty in its job. The strong script functions for example are saving my live over and over again. Also this app eats every Format without any problems. So this is a must have for audio file tagging. |

very good. only thing it's missing is the ability to set encoder flags (copyrighted, original, and emphasis). however it looks like it won't ever be added: http://www.anytag.de/for...index.php?showtopic=763 . unfortunate because mp3 tag studio can do it fast and easily. i'm torn between the two now. |

It offers more features and costs less (it's free) than all the commercial/shareware alternatives out there. Was a real life saver when I bought my Creative Nomad, allowed me to quickly and easily clean up my tags before transfering them to the portable player. However has a few minor quirks, like the mouse pointer freezing while it's writing the edited tags to some files. First time I see a program exhibiting that behaviour under WinXP... |

Ozieo: thank you for the advertisement for this shareware software you are talking about. I had a look and was thoroughly unimpressed (apart from the price tag maybe, as well as the kick a** huge banner at the bottom wasting screen space). I was wondering why you were not justifying your opinion and your drastic Mp3Tag underating with valid points, and discovered why: there aren't any. I have to say that I tried The Godfather also, and it's good too, and free :) However, I had the impression it's trying to do too much things apart from tagging, and that made it difficult for me to make use of it in an efficient way. I myself use Tag&Rename because it does a lot and the interface is somewhat effective. The other main reason I use Tag&Rename is the possibility to import tags form www.allmusic.com. I'll rate Tag&Rename with 4 * since it's shareware. For some reason, I'm more comfortable with AMG than with freedb, probably because I get more data, hence allwoing me to make sure I'm definitely getting the right data. That might sound dumb, but that the way my brain works :S That said, as soon as Mp3Tag allows to import tags from www.allmusic.com, then it will get a definite 5 and replace Tag&Rename on my system :) I can't wait since Tag&Rename is shareware, and you get free updates for the main revision number only. |

The best free mp3, ogg, aac, ... manager and renamer! It has a very simple interface, with its single window mode. The rename window allows you to rename all tags by double clicking on it, to display a lot of informations about the files. It scans folders fast, has an addon launcher for faster startup. It's translated in many languages, has shell integration, freedb support. It's really an excellent program. |
