You need to go over to Adobe and get the proper one this is the plugin only....the one for Firefox and other browsers not "Internet Explorer" listed above.... go over.... here.....http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html And get what you really need from Adobe Labs this is a developer edition so be ready for stuff that may be wrong you can always uninstall. |

Awesome, they fixed the security issues relatively quickly. Don't know why there is such a negative vibe round here. Not like it slows my system down or anything. But for those heavy content/media sites it's a requirement to have. |

Frustrating is just how I have to put it. I try 3rd party players that are lean and clean, yet somehow people find a way to make PDF files so they only look right with the actual Adobe Flash Player. It does view just about everything out there, sans some sort of "group collaboration" type of deals, but that's probably not its fault. Free but bloated and that sucks. Still, can't give it a 1 since the alternatives can't handle some that the official can. 2 for now |

I just sat through all of the feature tour videos, and I have to say that FP10 looks and sounds fantastic. I'm really looking forward to the new (inevitable) Flash/Flex updates so I can get stuck into the FP10 features. The new text jeux de casino related stuff, 3D API, local file loading/saving, and hardware accelerated bitmap rendering are going to make a huge difference to Flash based websites. |

Due to some kind of error in version 10 I went back to version 9 and have had no further problems. Flash was constantly crashing my browsers, all of them due to this error of which seems I cannot find out what it was. Now, this version 10 I have no idea about, but I am not taking any chances as now I do not trust adobe flash at all. Writing their tech support is useless. Stay with version 9 as this version is no better and I cannot seem to find out what they did to upgarde it. Isn't there another program you can use for browser plugins to view flash? I am sich of adobe and their crap. |

This entry just redirects you to Adobe's site for downloading - and depending on your browser that site may not offer you a download for a local install package (if that's what you prefer or need). If you're using Firefox, Opera, or Safari, you do get a download link to a file - which ends up being: http://fpdownload.macrom...nstall_flash_player.exe If you're using Internet Explorer, however, no link is offered - you only get the browser add-on install method. But if you prefer a true local installer, the link to that package is: http://fpdownload.macrom..._player_10_active_x.exe Note that these are not the same package. AFAIK, there is no single installer for "all" browsers. You need the specific installer for whatever browser you want Flash support in. |

edit: "heard" that this version accelerates video/effects via 3D accelerator (with OGL 2.0 support) so it might help reduce CPU burden... I don't know if that helps because few flash goodies (youtube and some) brought my 2 QuadCores CPU to 100% most of the time so w/o flashblock I coudln't work... Any sane user knew that it was a BUG in Flash 9, instead of solving it they are using GPU, so be it ;) I'll give it a try but I lost hope already...flash is the most s***ty product running on my rig +1 for GPU support --------------------- crapiest crap ever and the only thing that slows my computer down and doing Vista all sorts of problem... talk about "bad firefox flash handling/plugin" but I really don't care, it is a crap that is torturing my 2 COREs of my precious CPU to 100% most of the time... flashbock, where are thou? after a while: "ehm...sir, I'm not a block guy you're calling, but I have some light in me...my name is Silverlight and I will be avaiable soon..." thank God, .NET rocks (it really does!) |

Some websites claim that there is no flash player installed, this wasn't happening with Beta1. I didn't have any crashes though. And seriously why do we need X versions of this flash player for each browser (ActiveX for IE, plugin for Opera, plugin for Firefox...)? Why this can't be unified (I mean the Windows platform)? For people having crashes, you need to uninstall all previous versions first. Here is the link with instructions: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/ |

Flash is something you have to have and Adobe makes it. I really like the results I get from installing MS Silverlight. I recommend that too. The X64 guys keep down-rating the different softwares because it lacks X64 support. That is not fair to the hard working individuals and companies who bring us these products. If a software does not apply to you, don't rate it and stop complaining that you are not being catered to your decision to convert your system to a format known to have limited support. |

Seier: I appreciate your comments and sage advice, but a flash player compatible with IE7 x64 is the last frontier for me. I am running Vista x64 and have all drivers & all other software. Vista x64 benches nearly 20% higher than x86 on the same HW, and in my case is, is utterly rock solid. It flat out flies too! I guess when it comes down to it, I'm belly aching about a virtual and literal conduit for advertisements and Spam...on the other hand YouTube is pretty useless without it. |

Regardless of the version or build, Flash is a nuisance, as bad or worse than clunky and slow Java applets on so many websites back in the '90s. If I come upon a Flash site that doesn't have an HTML version, I simply do not visit the site. Flash just needs to go away, but alas, the sheeple are entranced by bells and whistles. If there was a -5 rating I could have selected it. What could be more stupid that dragging a potential customer's computer to a screeching halt to play an ad? In order to regain control of my computer, I have to minimize the brower, count to 5 then un-minimize the browser so I can proceed to web a page. If I it were not for my Yahoo mail, I would stop visiting their site altogether. The problem is only growing worse as time goes on. This is not directed at Adobe per say, but if you call this a step forward, it is not. It is ouright annoying. How can these players be so sophiticated, they want to hook up to your mic and web cam yet they cannot save a setting in the registry like "Always Force low quality"? This reminds me of Microsoft and their inability to stop pop-up ads and have a "Back" button that works. Forest Gump would say, "The Internet is like a box of Chocolates, you never know what kind of stupid browser gimmick yer gonna get!" |

You will be redirected to the proper install page only if you are using IE or an IE compatible browser. I installed Flash 9 for Windows for IE with no problem with IE6 SP2. I went to several Flash sites with IE7 Beta3. While I did notice some momentary spiking of CPU usage, more on some sites than others, I never approached 100%, and after the initial loading everything smoothed out. I haven't put it through the wringer yet, but Flash 9 looks pretty good so far. |

Great. I use Opera as my default browser, although I use IE for testing and the very occasional site that insists on IE. I tried to download the IE version after installing the FF/Opera etc version, and I was redirected to the page for Opera etc again. Stupid I suppose I'll have to fire up IE to download it... |

>This broke flash for me in firefox, (instead of >flash I see nothing) but it might be adblock. This >is a concern because we use adblock across our >company. This may be due to the detect/redirect script not correctly dealing with Macromedia Flash 8. Developers will need to correct this by automatically detecting future versions, rather than rely on manually specifying each version. |

I think it's possible to install it without the online activex installation if you download the cab file in the ie trigger page (check the page source) and extract it to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash and select active install in the the .inf files right-click menu but first you probably need to close all instances of ie. It worked for me. |

This broke flash for me in firefox, (instead of flash I see nothing) but it might be adblock. This is a concern because we use adblock across our company. edit: The fix was to disable object tags in adblock. I never liked those really anyway. |

TwoSheds, download and use Maxthon for your occasional I.E. needs. It provides complete and immediate control over Flash at web sites. That aside, Flash is almost as irritating as was the once oft'used HTML "blink" tag. I could certainly live without Flash, or would like to. |

Have to agree with wicketr's post, about Flash/Macromedia (and soon MacrAdobe, I guess)pandering to their corporate and marketing clients by not giving any control to the end-user. I love Flash in itself as a technology, but I hate this kind of 'black box' approach. I use FireFox with many extensions and never see Flash ads any more, so on the rare occasions I have to turn on IE, I really get aggravated by the hideous, unstoppable Flash ads. Jesus, does any company actually make money by aggravating potential clients in this way? Shame on MM/et al for locking the box. Other wise would be five stars. |

It´s all said by wicketr. Once i loved it, now i hate it. Because its getting moore and moore just a toy of advertising without any control by the user :\ |
| wicketr | Aug 8, 2005 | 8.0.5.0 Beta | ![]() 3 out of 5 |
Flash is a great program, HOWEVER, they do not give enough control to the user. As a user, I should be able to enable, or disable certain features. I should be able to keep Flash from flying across my screen and blocking what i'm doing. I should be able to turn Flash off completely if i want. Flash has become and adware advocacy and has begun to lose their users faith in the product. They need to begin adding features for the end users. When a product is used 90% of the time to deliver ads, why would a user want it?? Personally, I use AvantBrowser now because I can turn off flash if need be. It stays off unless i go to a website that has flash buttons for navigation. |

I like Flash. I don't know how people can give it a bad rating just because of what it is used for. That's like giving PhotoShop a bad rating just because people could make a fake picture of you. |

You guys are hypocrites. I use flash since I'm a web-media-aholic. If you have problems with adds, thats no reason to trash flash in general. This update resolves a few problems in stick rpg(seriously!) and some other flash based game I play. And neopets tends to run faster in flash with this new version, even tho its a beta. I'm nots sure the beta is for everyone, it does have a few bugs, but many fixes as well, so I give it a 5 as these things are to be expected in a beta. and as for Zootopia3000, maybe you should get the addblocker extension for IE, or just get Maxthon. It does miracles for dialup. |

Yeah it works fine past sp1, i use it now. This link, http://www.lightstar1.com/install.htm or the one posted below both have good info on how to do it. So, while this program got me into using xp styles, i have to agree with the others, its pointless once you know how to patch the uxtheme.dll. |

I see a few issues here: how good is the new Flash MX 2004, the player and would I use them? Well, first I have to ask myself if I want to upgrade to Flash MX 2004. I do a lot of development with Flash MX, none of which is used for Web site enhancements. In theory there's a "boost in runtime" which can only be realized with the new player. Actionscript has been improved and smaller fonts are more legible. Any other benefits of upgrading to MX 2004 don't really interest me at this time. If it turns out that MX 2004 is the best thing since sliced pizza and if the Windows player takes advantage of this, I still WOULD NOT upgrade until there are players for Linux, Mac and PDAs. Having said that, I'm sure those players are forthcoming. I will rate the player a four on its own merits, but will not develop applications until there is support for multiple OS. |

"serious webmasters stick to mature technologies like php and mysql on the server side and a little javascript on the client side and forget about crap like java or flash or shockwave. you want to make your site more beautiful, use gif pictures. A serious site doesn't need to be overloaded with stupid resources eating gimmicks " Um.. no. I'm a webmaster, although I wouldn't use flash that much, it still comes handy on images that I don't really want people to download and modify and stuff. Sony's main page is designed in flash (Sony Japan) and it's one of the best flash sites I know (cuz it's lite) and javascript it annoying cuz even if you got ONE error, that bottom IE icon goes to that yellow exclamation thing and wouldnt' run properly. And if you argue other browsers wouldn't, okay maybe but the thing is the "user", not us "advanced users" but the normal user are likely to being using IE. Although I agree with someone below that it's kinda stupid to release the beta before the application. Maybe the application is already out, maybe they'll add some support functions in MX, but I don't know what they're going to name it after MX.. MXII? |
| WRFan | Aug 25, 2003 | 7.0.2.0 Beta | ![]() 2 out of 5 |
last time I installed it IE wouldn't start any longer (quit with error). so if anyone of you has probs remove the flash activex component (it's in %systemroot%\Downloaded Program Files) and reinstall it... or rather don't. Anyway, I must say flash and shockwave suck big time. it's an enforced standard which was enforced by macromedia just to earn money, just as it enforced its coldfusion server on the internet community or similar to how apple enforced quicktime or real enforced realone on us. nobody needs this crap, but some dumb people use it so to see or hear all files one has to install. disadvantages of flash are: 1) no possibility to switch it off (yeah, I know, there are some progz that claim to do that, but they all don't do that correctly) 2) no configuration possibility - flash in highest quality kills my pc, eating all resources, but I can't set it to low quality for ever, it doesn't remember the settings 3) flash is used for advertisement purposes and such flash ads are rather difficult to kill, even if webwasher does it pretty well, but not always. and imho people who use flash on their websites are no serious webmasters. it might look nice, but it annoys the visitors. serious webmasters stick to mature technologies like php and mysql on the server side and a little javascript on the client side and forget about crap like java or flash or shockwave. you want to make your site more beautiful, use gif pictures. A serious site doesn't need to be overloaded with stupid resources eating gimmicks |

What in the world am I supposed to do with a new Flash player? What is new? How am I supposed to use what is new if there is no new Flash application? To the person that said "it supports cameras and microphones", that was in Flash 6. Wake me up when there is an application to go with it. |
