Excellent little app for removing the nasties that come through AIM. Found and easily removed a Trojan no other antivirus software could even find. Great tool to have in your toolbox.

Still the best and only. It's great for general virus-hunting as well; include it in your cleaning-apps toolbox.

Amazing, it detected a trojan that no other antivirus/antimalware app found during scans!

Great program, as always!

Well, the warez program I downloaded was obviously infected with a virus that was designed for IE. It would randomly open up to unwanted websites.

If you don't use IE then how did it become infected in the first place?

IE, which I don't use, got infected at a warez site by something I've never encountered. None of my software cleaners/fixers could find the problem. I knew it wasn't an AIM problem, but I always recommend AIMFix as an essential virus-scanner to others, so I fired it up...BAM...problem fixed!

Jay, you've been high on my respect list in the AIM community since I first encountered you about 3 or 4 years ago. Keep it up!

Great program! It worked, yet again, on a friend's machine.

Oh yeah, improv spelled definitely incorrectly; he typed "definately". You shouldn't trust someone's knowledge if they can't spell such an elementary word.

@improvelence: If you have to make comments like that, you have far too much time on your hands. How about some productive comments since, as you know, that's what beta testing is about?

If you have to use this....you most definately do not belong on betanews or any other beta testing site....

Still best at what it does. And now it's getting rated what it should be! ;)

Taking into consideration that all virus scanners return false-positives, I don't fault AIM Fix for turning up an occasional false-positive. This is a good piece of software... and it's free.

yizuman

yizuman reviewed v12/6/05 on Dec 7, 2005

AIM Fix is giving a false positive on a file called conime.exe, it's not a trojan and it's part of Microsoft Console IME (Input Method Editor).

It executes whenever a command prompt is opened, so it seems that it’s used for Asian language input support in the command prompt. I searched the Microsoft Knowledge Base and confirmed it came with Windows.

“This entry is used only when the locale of the computer is set to 932 (Japanese), 936 (Chinese), 949 (Korean Unified Hangul), or 950 (Chinese Big5 Extended).”

I actually checked to see if conime.exe was in the system32 folder on my other computers and sure enough, it is. These spyware-finder sites are completely irresponsible in using FUD to sell software and not presenting the fact that every copy of Windows XP, 2000, and 2003 has an innocuous file with the same name as a possible trojan. I guess the lesson learned is to take the advice of anybody trying to sell you something cum grano salis.

This program is a good way for less experienced users to remove AIM viruses in situations where an expert is unable to help them. While an expert might turn to HijackThis or a similar product to identify malware on a computer, many less experienced users would be unwilling or unable to interpret the results of the HijackThis log. AIM Fix takes care of the job for them.

this is great for people who frequently use AIM and get viruses. thankfully, ive never had to use it but i usually tell my friends about it and theyre surprised that they can finally get rid of the AIM virus. this is a must have for AIM users.

Why the hell does this have a 2.5 rating?

Are you guys serious?
This is the only program out there to fix those AIM viruses completely in one shot.

Sure, your AntiVirus may detect certain AIM Viruses, and remove them, but it doesnt go as far as to completely clean all traces of it...i.e. clean your profile for you.
But there are some AIM Viruses that this site lists that just are not detected by your favorite AntiVirus programs.

AIM Fix cleans any and every known AIM virus...and it also makes sure all traces of it are removed too...whether it be away messages in the registry, infected profiles, infected buddy icons...WHATEVER.

If you are rating this less than a 4, then you are just plain ignorant.

This program is the best, and only, one of its kind for AIM. I've sent people to the site countless times, and they were THRILLED at how fast their virus problems were solved.

This program is great if you get any of those annoying AIM viruses in your away messages. Just run it and it does the rest. Never had any problems with it and it has worked 100% of the time for me.
