inspiredeb is a moron. AVG trial works fine and can be easily uninstalled.

yes, you have to pay for the full version...but for any intelligent computer user (who only needs on-demand scanning), the core program features are free.

AVG-Antispyware has a slightly better detection rate than spyware terminator and uses less memory than SUPERantispyware.

and SAS does the exact same thing as AVG + rogue remover, so ATM im using AVG and spyware terminator. no problems and absolutely NO memory hit.

Warning: Don't download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 unless you're sure you want to buy it. You can't uninstall the trial version of the software. There is no uninstall routine provided with the trial. Then you're stuck with sales support because you don't have a license # and they only provide canned, ineffective solutions. You'll be stuck with AVG's processes running in the background. Do you need yet another process gunking up your system?

This still has a way to go but it has the right idea.I'm still more interested in superantispyware...

Awesome scanner, detects alot more than others. Plus it IS freeware for the most part... Yes 30 day trial for realtime protection... But after the 30 days you can STILL update and run scans... So either way the malware it detects will be removed. Very nice software indeed.

Slow, slow and slower. Over an hour for a scan, found 8 cookies that get deleted anyway.

Biggest thing is it's NOT freeware, it's 30-day trial ware at that.

Avg Anti Spyware I think is probably the best anti-spyware program out there. It has high detection rate, good removal, And a very thourough scanner.

AVG AntiSpyware uses less RAM than NOD32 AntiVirus (which is notorious for low memory usage), but at the same time has a better detection rate than anything on the market.

this has been the best antispyware program you can get, ever since AVG bought it from ewido.

There are no features in this program that make it worth anywhere near $39.95.

The AVG/Ewido anti-spyware engine is as ever excellent. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of AVG Anti-Spyware as a whole.

• While efficient and attractive the graphical user interface frequently freezes forcing the user to kill all associated processes (avgas.exe and guard.exe) via the Task Manager.

• While offering an impressive feature set the resident scanner is a bit of a resource hog. I often find my CPU usage plateaux at 90-100% whenever I choose to ACTUALLY browse the internet (the culprit being guard.exe).

• Again the on-access/scheduled scanner is a bit of a resource hog. While I haven't had as much trouble c.f. the resource requirements of the resident scanner I have had to forcibly end scans (again killing processes via the Task Manager) on more than one occasion.

To my mind the only real benefit of installing anti-spyware software is in its resident scanner. In the case of AVG Anti-Spyware the resident scanner is something of a no-go (at least in my case) and thus I think I'll stick to running regular weekly scans via the FREE Ewido online scanner (which coincidentally uses the same excellent AS engine) at least until v8.0 rears it's head (hopefully they'll have fixed the resident scanner by then).

@Satansgeek:

Have you even tried it in the past 5 months? It hasn't been called Ewido in a long time, and it has been very stable for every computer I have loaded it on.

That being said, I like Spyware Terminator much better. It is free and is such a complete anti-spyware package I can't believe I haven't been using it longer.

While I've been a user and a paid subscriber of the Ewido version of this product for some time, and loved that (I would have rated that 5), following the AVG takeover nothing has gone well. I've had instability issues with the programme and found that it frequently locks up on 100% CPU usage. I contacted the AVG support staff...or should I say I tried to do so. AVG support, even for a person with a paid license (OK, paid for the Ewido version and they took over the license)their support was zero...I tried repeatedly to contact them with no reply of any kind forthcoming. Considering that I found the product to be unusable following the upgrade to the AVG version while the Ewido version had run without the slightest hitch and considering that support from them simply doesn't exist for me I think a 1 star might be warranted but I'll be generous and give 2. I did a fresh Windows installation and still found the product to be useless for me. I can hardly believe how quickly they turned supurb into junk.

I,ve always loved this procuct. One of my two top picks for this type app., the other being "Counter Spy". I'm not a real big fan of "AVG, Grisoft" but I feel that "Ewido" has been slightly improved after the merger. If you can imagine that. The two mentioned are the only two I ever allow to run on my system tray other than my "Zone Suite 2006". Really feel safe with this product. Everyone who knows anything about the saftey of a computer on line should have. or at least try it. The 30 day free trial is fully functional and will remove as well as scan and protect. There is no reason at all not to try this app.
