This application has now replaced 6 programs on my PC:

- Multimon (2nd taskbar)
- Winsize (window size and position)
- Glass2k (transparency)
- Dialogmate
- Rtvreco (clicking buttons)
- Wizmouse

Amazing!

A valuable utility. I will never run Windows without it.

Still the best of its kind, by far. Still doing what idiots like the developer of PuTTY should be doing for their own applications.

This is the swiss army knife of window and multi monitor management...and what I really like, too, is the fact that the developpers are VERY responsive and user friendly :-)

Yeah it is worth it. It's so incredibly helpful to reign in the many moronic applications that don't remember their sizes and/or positions. You can use it to dismiss annoying and needless dialogs (such as when some idiotic mundane application asks you to confirm its exit--as if your life will be torn to shreds if you don't reconsider). And that's just the tip of this application's proverbial iceberg of features.

Very expensive, but g**d*** it's worth it!!! The new window snap function is simply irreplaceable!

Wonderful application, and version 5.0 is going to be a nice upgrade when it comes out (officially) in early 2008. Even the 5.0 betas have been very good so far.

DM2 is not a comparison. Give me a break. And if you don't want title bar buttons with AWM, configure it so that it doesn't add them.

I have read the writings of some people (not here) who claim that AWM does nothing worthwhile. These people must not use a lot of software. The software I use often fails to remember its size or position, or it uses always-on-top windows/dialogs unnecessarily, and so on. AWM helps me keep the tiny shred of sanity I have left. Take PuTTY for example. Nice application, but the author has the absolutely nutty idea that applications should not have to remember their sizes and positions (instead, he thinks it should be someone else's problem). Thank goodness the AWM authors have done the PuTTY author's work for him.

Great app. Great support (lots of updates, bugfixes and they really DO listen to their customers). BUT a bit expensive for such a small utility. Still, a great product.

Free, open source alternative: DM2. Which might be not supported as well as this puppy, BUT some might consider it ever better than AWM, because it has fairly the same core functionality BUT it does not add any extra buttons on panels! :)

I disagree with comeoffit on only one point, "you have to be on a 10-day drunk" is not enough need to be on some speed / weed too...LOL. AWM is just amazing!

PowerMenu is a nice little freeware app, but you have to be on a 10-day drunk to think it comes close to AWM. I mean, come on, at least read the description (when the bottle's not in the way).

Extremely useful program if you like having lots of windows going and need them to behave the way you'd like. This is pretty regularly updated. 60 day trial is nice too.

DM2 does not do all that AWM can do. It doesn't alter title bars (from what I can tell), and it is nowhere near as easy to use as AWM. Oh boy, so I can memorize 52 different hotkey combinations to manipulate windows. That sounds easier than clicking buttons on the title bar.

Rating a software down just because something else performs a similar function is just plain stupid.

I rate AWM with a 1 because the moment I launched it and double clicked on a folder under the Start Menu, Explorer froze. AWM also made Firefox freeze.

I have found Actual Windows Manager to be a well-designed and helpful addition to my system. I was able to replace several other utilities with it, although it did cost me money. The configurability (including the ability to exclude windows from modification by AWM) makes it worth it. The author is responsive as well, which I appreciate.
