Needed still today. I prefer the monthly build of version 18.x, which is basically just ongoing security updates. Version 18 monthly build can be had at Adobe's Flash archive page.

Note: The download will be large, being it contains also for MAC, optional msi installers and debug files. I just extract the win.exe, winax.exe and uninstaller(to uninstall older version first) files.

I find it odd that BetaNews has a link to a build of Flash that isn't even on the Adobe web site yet or FileHippo.
And the link for the Windows version takes you to build .152.

Went back to version 10.3. Version 11.x miserably stuttered consistently when in full screen mode, especially at high resolution. Doubt this was fixed at all with version 12. As long as all websites still show flash media content with version 10.3 installed I'll stick with this old version and damn the so-called security risks. Most likely the real security holes come with the 11.x and 12.x versions with all the new bells and whistles added to these versions. Heck, v10.3 has a 3mb installer compared to 17mb's for v11.9. Many of the security problems with 10.3 had been addressed anyway with the one year plus worth extended support release status it received.

1 star for Adobe for not even bothering to address the stuttering problem. Any Google search will show that stuttering has been a major complaint with Flash 11 and all Adobe support tells you to do is disable hardware acceleration which doesn't even fix the problem.

Zootopia3001 reviewed v11.7.700.182 Beta on Apr 17, 2013

Flash stutters and blunders on some videos with the current 11.x version, especially mp4's. All Adobe will tell you to resolve it is to uncheck 'Hardware Acceleration' in settings when they know full well that the 11.x version is a total disaster, and it seems to get worse with each new update. Went back to version 10.3 and the issues are resolved. Adobe is actually still providing (security)updates to flash 10.3... Currently 10.3.183.75.
1 star for 11.x version; a solid 4 stars for 10.3 version.

Seems to me Adobe has been opening up more security holes with the addition of all the new bells and whistles since version 11.2. I mean, come on, look at the size increase since version 11.2. I've gone back to Flash 11.2, and then deleted ALL the unnecessary Flash files, including most all in the Documents and Settings folder and all the ones in the System32 folder. Everything else is now write protected(after Flash settings made, including custom settings made in the mms.cfg file). Any new files created in the Doc & Settings folder(mainly Flash cookies) are being deleted with CCleaner.

BTW, Flash 11.5 was causing notable crash problems in Firefox for me, so don't know if this new 11.6 version resolves it, since I won't be trying it. Don't know about Internet Explorer. Haven't used IE in ages.

2 stars for this version and probably all future versions, 4 stars for version 11.2

As several sites use flash exclusively bbc.co.uk being one of those sites flash is still needed, at least by me - I must say I've had few problems with it but frequent security fixes & the fact it was deleted from android then reinstated show it's future is uncertain. Frequent fixes shows it's underlining lack of security but you could say the same about MS Windows & the infamous 'Patch Tuesday'?

@Zootopia3001 - You are preaching to the converted, I have never had any issues with Flash RE: security, but as Apple refuse to use it the bottom line it is will disappear, most security issues are caused by user stupidity - As for ad’s I never see any.

However, what really annoys me is trying to get the offline loader for it. Every time a new version is released I have to search high and low for it.
Yes it is available on Adobe's website but I just cannot understand why I have to apply for a licence to distribute it.
Perhaps someone from Adobe can explain this farce or better still - just make it available for download. Either you want computer techs to install it or not ! Make up your minds because I'm really p**d off!

I have 2 machines, 1 using Windows 7 Ultimate which is my Falcon Northwest loaded to the gills gaming PC, the 2nd is my 5 yr old Acer Ferarri laptop using Vista Ultimate...both units are 64 bit. I have had ZERO Flash issues with either. Both units failed to play any flasy after downloading IE9 RC..after going to Adobe's site and getting the 'square' version I was able to able get Flash to work on some web sites but not all sites...guessing about 50/50 here...plus IE9 RC hung up along and the the browser had to close itself for 'not responding'...my concern is this: 64 bit has been around for years now and I fail to understand why Adobe cannot make a Flash Player work in the 64 bit arena without so many issues... I had to use 'system restor' to undo the changes and once done, everything worked fine again...I have tried this several times and fail to get Flash working properly with IE9 RC and cannot use the new RC since Flash does not work (for me)

Trying to watch and flash video content now is terrible, frame rate is slow, it's jerky and out of sync.. just terrible.. I've uninstalled and gone back to version 10. whilst that version isn't perfect, at least it works for video playback.

I don't think Adobe knows what RC means. It's not Retry Constantly. They call Flash 10.1 for Android "Beta" and for the Mac they call it "Preview." Considering how messy their versioning scheme is, can you imagine their coding?

I use flash a lot, but to be honest, I have not seen any major changes from version 10 to v. 10.1, although I don't expect to, as it's like firefox 3.5 users upgrading to 3.6, mainly minor performance increases, bug fixes and security patches compiled in a new build.

Flash is going to be facing competition from MS Silverlight soon, as Silverlight is getting to be a good adversary for "the lightweight, highly expressive client..."
But, overall, most users are simply more accustomed to using flash I think.

RC6 working very good with nightly Firefox 3.7 (as of 5/26/2010).
Flash intensive sites like http://www.universalorlando.com/harrypotter runs smoother than before. Perhaps further optimizations are being done, does "seem" smoother than earlier betas on the same PC.

Another HD test on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEheh1BH34Q
and I was able to run full screen 720P quite smoothly. Previous builds were slower with the same youtube HD video. This is on Pentium M 1.86ghz with 2gig ram Windows 7.

Wished people would rate the flash 10.1 betas on technical merit/testing rather than politicize it. Some of us like to have the full web experience.

Adobe Flash is the very best product of its kind. To those of you complaining about security holes, Adobe is better at fixing security holes in Flash than Microsoft is in Windows. The one and only downside to Flash is the lack of a native 64-bit version.

This entry just redirects you to Adobe's site for downloading - and depending on your browser that site may not offer you a download for a local install package (if that's what you prefer or need).

If you're using Firefox, Opera, or Safari, you do get a download link to a file - which ends up being:

http://fpdownload.macrom...nstall_flash_player.exe

If you're using Internet Explorer, however, no link is offered - you only get the browser add-on install method. But if you prefer a true local installer, the link to that package is:

http://fpdownload.macrom..._player_10_active_x.exe

Note that these are not the same package. AFAIK, there is no single installer for "all" browsers. You need the specific installer for whatever browser you want Flash support in.

Regardless of the version or build, Flash is a nuisance, as bad or worse than clunky and slow Java applets on so many websites back in the '90s. If I come upon a Flash site that doesn't have an HTML version, I simply do not visit the site. Flash just needs to go away, but alas, the sheeple are entranced by bells and whistles. Thankfully, Flash is always disabled on my browser and that is the way it should be.

well of course i give this a 5, you need this software install in order to view certain files that are made out of flash, like videos and mp3 players that are created by flash, If you really dont know what plash player is made for, then please dont post any comments about it, Version 8 had a bug on it that let hackers use it to attact your computer, version 9 is out and fixes the problem, Also there is a full stand alone flash player you could get doing a google search..

If there was a -5 rating I could have selected it.

What could be more stupid that dragging a potential customer's computer to a screeching halt to play an ad? In order to regain control of my computer, I have to minimize the brower, count to 5 then un-minimize the browser so I can proceed to web a page.

If I it were not for my Yahoo mail, I would stop visiting their site altogether. The problem is only growing worse as time goes on.

This is not directed at Adobe per say, but if you call this a step forward, it is not. It is ouright annoying.

How can these players be so sophiticated, they want to hook up to your mic and web cam yet they cannot save a setting in the registry like "Always Force low quality"?

This reminds me of Microsoft and their inability to stop pop-up ads and have a "Back" button that works.

Forest Gump would say, "The Internet is like a box of Chocolates, you never know what kind of stupid browser gimmick yer gonna get!"

Intel P4 915 - 3.4GHz - 1GB RAM - You have to use IE or an IE compatible browser like Maxthon to get this file to install. There is no stand alone file that I can find. You will be redirected to the proper install page only if you are using IE or an IE compatible browser. I installed Flash 9 for Windows for IE with no problem with IE6 SP2. I went to several Flash sites with IE7 Beta3. While I did notice some momentary spiking of CPU usage, more on some sites than others, I never approached 100%, and after the initial loading everything smoothed out. I haven't put it through the wringer yet, but Flash 9 looks pretty good so far.

This may be due to the detect/redirect script not correctly dealing with Macromedia Flash 8. Developers will need to correct this by automatically detecting future versions, rather than rely on manually specifying each version.

Have to agree with wicketr's post, about Flash/Macromedia (and soon MacrAdobe, I guess)pandering to their corporate and marketing clients by not giving any control to the end-user. I love Flash in itself as a technology, but I hate this kind of 'black box' approach. I use FireFox with many extensions and never see Flash ads any more, so on the rare occasions I have to turn on IE, I really get aggravated by the hideous, unstoppable Flash ads. Jesus, does any company actually make money by aggravating potential clients in this way? Shame on MM/et al for locking the box. Other wise would be five stars.

Flash is a great program, HOWEVER, they do not give enough control to the user.

As a user, I should be able to enable, or disable certain features. I should be able to keep Flash from flying across my screen and blocking what i'm doing. I should be able to turn Flash off completely if i want.

Flash has become and adware advocacy and has begun to lose their users faith in the product. They need to begin adding features for the end users. When a product is used 90% of the time to deliver ads, why would a user want it??

Personally, I use AvantBrowser now because I can turn off flash if need be. It stays off unless i go to a website that has flash buttons for navigation.

You guys are hypocrites.

I use flash since I'm a web-media-aholic. If you have problems with adds, thats no reason to trash flash in general.

This update resolves a few problems in stick rpg(seriously!) and some other flash based game I play. And neopets tends to run faster in flash with this new version, even tho its a beta.

I'm nots sure the beta is for everyone, it does have a few bugs, but many fixes as well, so I give it a 5 as these things are to be expected in a beta.

and as for Zootopia3000, maybe you should get the addblocker extension for IE, or just get Maxthon. It does miracles for dialup.

I see a few issues here: how good is the new Flash MX 2004, the player and would I use them? Well, first I have to ask myself if I want to upgrade to Flash MX 2004. I do a lot of development with Flash MX, none of which is used for Web site enhancements. In theory there's a "boost in runtime" which can only be realized with the new player. Actionscript has been improved and smaller fonts are more legible. Any other benefits of upgrading to MX 2004 don't really interest me at this time. If it turns out that MX 2004 is the best thing since sliced pizza and if the Windows player takes advantage of this, I still WOULD NOT upgrade until there are players for Linux, Mac and PDAs. Having said that, I'm sure those players are forthcoming. I will rate the player a four on its own merits, but will not develop applications until there is support for multiple OS.

Um.. no.

I'm a webmaster, although I wouldn't use flash that much, it still comes handy on images that I don't really want people to download and modify and stuff. Sony's main page is designed in flash (Sony Japan) and it's one of the best flash sites I know (cuz it's lite) and javascript it annoying cuz even if you got ONE error, that bottom IE icon goes to that yellow exclamation thing and wouldnt' run properly. And if you argue other browsers wouldn't, okay maybe but the thing is the "user", not us "advanced users" but the normal user are likely to being using IE.

Although I agree with someone below that it's kinda stupid to release the beta before the application. Maybe the application is already out, maybe they'll add some support functions in MX, but I don't know what they're going to name it after MX.. MXII?

WRFan

WRFan reviewed v7.0.2.0 Beta on Aug 25, 2003

last time I installed it IE wouldn't start any longer (quit with error). so if anyone of you has probs remove the flash activex component (it's in %systemroot%\Downloaded Program Files) and reinstall it... or rather don't.

Anyway, I must say flash and shockwave suck big time. it's an enforced standard which was enforced by macromedia just to earn money, just as it enforced its coldfusion server on the internet community or similar to how apple enforced quicktime or real enforced realone on us. nobody needs this crap, but some dumb people use it so to see or hear all files one has to install.
disadvantages of flash are: 1) no possibility to switch it off (yeah, I know, there are some progz that claim to do that, but they all don't do that correctly) 2) no configuration possibility - flash in highest quality kills my pc, eating all resources, but I can't set it to low quality for ever, it doesn't remember the settings 3) flash is used for advertisement purposes and such flash ads are rather difficult to kill, even if webwasher does it pretty well, but not always.
and imho people who use flash on their websites are no serious webmasters. it might look nice, but it annoys the visitors. serious webmasters stick to mature technologies like php and mysql on the server side and a little javascript on the client side and forget about crap like java or flash or shockwave. you want to make your site more beautiful, use gif pictures. A serious site doesn't need to be overloaded with stupid resources eating gimmicks
