Well this one is kinda nice with it's scans. Though the UI could use a make-over. I use this one with Avast, and Spysweeper. If the UI was better, then I would rate it more, but then again, you get what you pay for.

This has been quite stable on my system. Like all the other popular free scanner/removers available it does not detect everything but is still worthy to use. Just because Adaware finds something Spybot Search and Destroy does not, should not imply Spybot Search and Destroy is not an essential piece of software. Same goes for this program. It has found instances that both SBSD and Adaware have failed to find during tests I have conducted. In relation to an earlier comment about real time protection Arovax has had for some time http://www.arovaxshield.com/ which is a good start in stand-alone "Immunization" products. When used in conjunction with each other they provide a Realtime/Scanner/Remover.

Nice interface, simple to use it but it's database is outdated now.
It lacks real-time protection and heuristics protection.
Waiting for the upcoming release soon.

Ewido is 30 bucks!! This is free and tracking cookies can be cleared by cleaning the cache and other areas of the pc.Ccleaner is good for that and spybot is much better than ''ewido'' ...Adware also beats that program out of the water..

This one right here is pretty good but needs work..Sorry to the person below but i give respect and support to free programs..If it worked great and cost,I wouldn't buy it.I have more useful things to waste my money on and patience for the free programs/dev's..

SPEAK IT Sophist_Dreams. Amen sister. About time someone got off the BS train Arovax seems to have lately. Spyware Terminator pwns this so bad it's not laugh worthy. Build in Clam-AV with a Spyware database + Intrusion Protection and you've got an Arovax killing machine.

I'm lovin' it! And for those who are like 'It's free, lets show respect'...ummmm no? You know why? Because it's not worth money, nobody would buy it if it cost something. No features, not a great spyware database...selling it pointless as they'd be in the same situation they are now. And lets face it...there are more capable 'FREE' scanners.

If you want to compete Arovax, stop being a POS and add realtime protection and heuristics along with a more filling database. THAT would be a great free product. Till then you'll always have the likes of Spyware Terminator (once rogue!) embarassing you.

I've been using this for a while, and it makes a nice compliment to Ad-Aware SE, Sybot S&D, Spyware Blaster and windows Defender.

I Also Like how they finally included the options of not installing the icon everywhere, and to exit and not minimise after close. They also Intergrated Live update within the program.

I've been using Arovax products for a long time already. Both Arovax Shield & Antispyware. What I can say is that these guys are going towards their goals with 7-miles steps. All their products are innovative, effective yet very easy to use. I am really very glad about the fact that Arovax Antispyware is finally released and is constantly developed. Its Scan speeds are REAL! It’s not a bug, it’s an innovation no one can beat yet. Both Scans are now united into one System Scan, because there is no need in “Quick” scan, full system scan speed can be compared to someone’s quick scans ;) Very clean and cozy GUI. It does not stress you or overwhelm with tons of settings. I really like it a lot.
Remember my words – it’s a winner who will knock-out some major players on the market. Good job Arovax!

I usually do not take part in such discussions/posts, but this time I decided to write a comment. I use this software since its first beta releases. There are always people who like something, there are always people who do not like something and we all should realize that it is very hard to please everyone. I'd even say that it is impossible. I give this software a solid 5 mark only for one thing - Innovations, which Arovax tries to deliver to its users and also for their endless efforts in helping pc users for free, though other companies earn good money on people's troubles.
Recently Arovax wrote about their new system which gives all users an access to the functions of controlling database of malware/spyware, where everyone is able to add information about known infections (see details here http://forum.arovaxcompa...index.php?showtopic=368) I liked this idea very much. I think that further developing of this idea making it more user-friendly would be very good. I am staying with Arovax and I really hope that each of you will evaluate the product yourselves, not by relying on comments of people who are not familiarized with this field and whose hobby is to flame.

Ok, here is my long winded review because I’m sick and tired of hearing about this software. I've decided to download it and give it a spin. Here are my REAL results.

First off I went to the Arovax Shield website, and went to click on the link "Make your PC impenetrable to hackers completely free of charge!" and realized I’m wasting my time submitting to false advertising over a lite IDS system that in fact, does not protect your PC from hackers but merely monitors your registry and checks cookies.

So of course I directed my attention to Arovax Antispyware, since after all it's FREE! ITS REVOLUTIONARY!! YES!! To be honest the main webpage is clean and doesn't look like a crazy penguin-child hybrid designed it (see http://www.arovaxshield.com). I downloaded the software of course, it was a 2.6 meg file which was kind of nice. The installation went smooth, and I immediately went to my settings to check out the configuration to this revolutionary baby!

Result?
----
(Run Scan at System Startup)
(Hide to System tray on close)

(select your language)
-----
I was absolutely baffled at the revolutionary steps Arovax had taken to make this software 'clean' and when I mean clean, I mean 98% white space where there could be more options liiike what to do automatically on detection, or perhaps a scheduler? Maybe they could get rid of the pink text on the "apply settings" button...but who knows, after all it's a WONDERFULLY DESIGNED PRODUCT THAT WILL SPARK MUCH REVOLUTION AMONG THE ANTISPYWARE FIELD THAT WILL PUSH THE LIKES OF MICROSOFT AND LAVASOFT OFF THE MARKET!! *ah hem*

moving on...

I put 180solutions Search Assistant on my system along with Spycar to see how it faired. I tested it up against honest competition Ewido AntiMalware (4 beta), who has also been in the market for roughly as long as Arovax and is in my eyes a quality product.
The default scan on Arovax took roughly 20 seconds. It scanned 5000 files roughly, my processes (didn’t tell me if it scanned process modules) and whatever my registry was. It was a fast scan, and it picked up 180 solutions with success. So what the hell I removed the processes with Arovax, it prompted for a reboot and viola it did not reappear. +2 points for standard malware detection and removal. But a fast scan with Ewido (who generously scanned up to 200,000 computer files) picked up 2 traces Arovax missed including the installer. -1 point for lousy cleanup. Arovax also missed Spycar entirely which is suppose to test heuristics. Oh wait, Arovax heuristics are either barbaric or non existent. Ewido clickly cleaned the void Arovax left behind.

Well I admit I’m surprised Arovax detected something, and for the most part disabled it. The software ‘works’. I say works lightly because it doesn’t necessarily mean it works well. Ewido which is a competitor uses decent heuristics and it has a large database. It allows scheduling of scanning, and when it scans, it does its job well. It even has useful extras which is more than what I can say for AAS.

So I officially say Ewido pwn Arovax. Windows Defender’s real-time protection pwn Arovax and the hype of Arovax needs to drown out so I don’t have to look at this board and see this software getting a score it doesn’t deserve.

This Just In! Arovax crashed at the end of this review.

I've been using this program for a very long time but since the latest updated version something very bad happened:

False if not just lying about positives, easy ones to research like "newdotnet" which plants itself in the c:\programs folder in plain view , i could not belive i had this type of massive infection that this program was reporting after having it scan on startup everyday without a flag and also after running spybot/adaware/defender/avg and mi and then to finish up i ran this program and walla!!! presto!! you now have 80 infections! lol , sasser/newdotnet and a slew of others , researched for evidence of a sasser infection as well and IT IS NOT THERE PERIOD. i no longer trust anything from this company.

Quick but collects false-positives and misses out on many other malware programs. Looks promising, but definition files and the program itself need a bit of polishing.

Spysweeper still seems to be the best single program for catching spyware. MSAS is coming along, however, and Ad-Aware and Spybot are still useful, although the latter is becoming less and less relevant.

This time around, i did not get it.
The scan of Folder for my drive goes too fast for me to feel this is deep scanning.
It does load faster now, and marked only cookies from certain sites such as hitbox.

Don Juan

Don Juan reviewed v1.0.647 Beta on Mar 16, 2006

Was gonna give it a four, but I gave it a five to try and balance out the last review, which was a very undeserving score from some fan boy of another product (BTW, Ad-Aware is garbage, has been for a while).

The GUI is improved a tiny bit in this version. The built in updater is a little awkward, but works. It still refuses to ignore the entries for UltraVNC, they come up every time I scan. Also kind of dumb how when you try to close it, it minimizes to the system tray, which makes no sense seeing as how this app doesn't do background protection. Aside from those minute little gripes, it seems to be a good program.

sirhardi: I scanned with several programs and my system is coming up clean even with this installed. Maybe you're getting a false positive.

Well any decent freeware application is always good to add to your malware cleaning arsenal. Although I have my system locked down pretty well and rarely ever get malware on it, so I can't confirm that this programs detection rules are any good. The incredible speed of the file scanning leads me to believe that this program only scans by file name, not by file contents. It has a very clean simple to use interface. Although I must say that by the description on their site, it appears that unlike their Shield program, this may only be free during beta, and they will charge for the final product. I'm referring to where it says, "Try Arovax AntiSpyware today! Beta version is available for download for everyone free of any charge." I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Spyware Blaster and Arovax Shield are not similar, so you cannot compare them. Do not!

And if this hasn't changed much since its last beta build, then I have no reason to give this higher than a 3, because it's not nearly as superior as other offerings. They need more features, a better feel and higher detection rates.

Cris3

Cris3 reviewed v1.0.584 Beta on Feb 9, 2006

Arovax found several malicious items the other major spyware programs missed. I recommend that you go to arovaxshield.com and download their free real time protection, a stand-alone program that appears to be superior to spyware blaster.

On the plus side, Arovax AntiSpyware found definite malware missed by Ad-Aware, Microsoft's Anti-Spyware, and Spybot S&D (e.g., a CoolWeb variant). However, that came with a number of what I'd consider false positives--primarily "safe" cookies (e.g., Microsoft's Passport), but nothing that might cause harm if removed.

On the other hand, it missed several pieces of malware found up by Spyware Doctor. These misses were more than tracking cookies, but a Trojan or two. Not good. But, given no one app can yet get them all [it still appears], Arovax AntiSpyware seems a nice addition to one's malware arsenal.

eclipsingdivinity

eclipsingdivinity reviewed v1.0.494 Beta on Jan 2, 2006

The interface is nice, and it seems to scan quite fast. It's really hard to test an antispyware app when you don't have spyware on your PC to begin with :-P. There is something about how Arovax makes their programs that rub me the wrong way. They know how to make a nice interface, but like the user below has said the scanning is just too fast for me to really understand how it works in comparison to Spybot and Ad-Aware which take a solid amount of time to sweep through a system...(which seems normal to me).

Since Spybot and Ad-Aware have been doing this for years, I under the impression that either Arovax are gods or their antispyware proggy is unreliable. I'm voting for unreliable at the moment.

I have also tested SpyDefense which has a slick interface as well and their scans are on the same level as Spybot and Ad-Aware, and surprise surprise...It managed to find something when I used it. Not to mention they are quick to get back to me when reporting a bug in their software. So personally, there are more robust apps to be interested in rather than arovax at the current moment. Hopefully that will change because the more awesome and easy to use Anti-Malware apps out there...the less hassle us computer gurus have to go through to fix family/friends/clients systems.

Tokar

Tokar reviewed v1.0.494 Beta on Jan 2, 2006

It has an very minimalistic interface that is VERY fast and VERY responsive.

It scans lightning fast...but this is something I don't like about AntiSpyware programs. It seems to indicate that its not doing a very thorough job in scanning for crap...that is just my opinion.

It found some stuff on my machine, but 99% of the stuff was just "bad" cookies...if there were any.

Id have to test this on a machine that is heavily populated with spyware and adware to see how it compares to Microsoft or Webroot or the likes.

eblade

eblade reviewed v1.0.422 Beta on Dec 7, 2005

I'm going to, as I usually do, test this software as I write my review.
I'm starting this test, with an initial rating of 3, as the installation went as smooth as I reasonably expect all installations to go these days.

First look, it looks like most other anti-spy programs, such as XoftSpy (my personal favorite right now), or AdAware. There are three tabs on the top, however, that change to different pages. These tabs have no text in them, or if they do, it is invisible. (not sure if WindowBlinds may be interfering with that, but I have no interference with any other app with WB, so that's not good)
I start my run off by pressing "Deep Scan". OMG the registry, process, and cookie scan was completed before I could even move the window out from over my browser window to start in. The file scan is almost entirely done with my 45,000 file hard drive, as I finish typing this paragraph (and I'm a very fast typist).. WOW. SPEED.
As I much expected, it didn't find anything. I ran XoftSpy about 2 weeks ago, and it found a couple of IE cookies, and previous to that I'd not had any issues with spyware since my initial scan of this computer with XoftSpy back in June.
Other people have faulted this software for having a small database, and for not having a Live mode. I will not fault this software for either of those, because it has a 31,000-32,000 entry database, and Xoft, the most extensive I've found, has a 42,000 entry database. Xoft also scans for a huge load of viruses/worms, but isn't that why we are all supposed to be running virus protection software? And if you need a Live mode, then you need something else. It's exceptionally easy to avoid malware, just use better products than Internet Explorer and Outlook.
I give this a 3, as I haven't tested its function on a system known to have spyware, but I will keep it on my system, and will use it the first chance I get when I need to clean someone else's computer. *thinking my parents win 95 machine is probably in dire need*

Arovax AntiSpyware has a Quick, Clean and very efficient installation. The scan of all drives, 80Gb and 60Gb, took very little time indeed and only found some cookies from Microsoft. Selecting the option to ignore has placed these in a favorites folder. The update facility is a nice touch and will keep all users current.

Impressive until now. Very very fast. It found 3 items, in particular Smitfraud that I thought was removed. This is despite the presence of Zone Alarm, AVG, Ad-aware, Spybot, Spywareblaster, MS anti-spyware and HijackThis ! Need to confirm but really worth a try.

Well - WHAT is it, really? I have an ATI card installed into my system, but: you can never be sure. So it would be nice, if the author of this software would be so kind and gave an explanation.
BTW - I posted this in your "forum", too.

And - programmer(s)-- your feedback webpage is nice, but if you really wanna know about ALL the bugs your proggie has:
there's an entry box missing into which one could insert such problems and bugs like the one I found.

Always think of the unthinkable!

EDITED--------
They fixed the problem within hours. That's amazing to me. So - thanx, guys!

This tool found a trojan that all my other tools - including spybot - missed. It checked out a genuine and not a false positive too. So, Arovax, you are welcome aboard Googun's computers :-)

Gave a FP for a bit of spyware that didn't really exist on my system, but I couldn't expand the result tree, or select the check box.

This program has good/clean/fast interface. And searching speed is also good/quick. But this really is beta. Part of interface didn't even show up?!

Didn't find all spyware and some wrong ones it did...

I would like to give 4/5 or even 5/5, but too early for that. But this is program you should watch. =)

Would be nice... except, as mentioned, it doesn't even look at the items that you checked, it just removes them all.

Also, it found two NSIS (Nullsoft Installation System) dll's to be spyware, not to mention one link in my Favourites folder.

I like it. It is a small download, starts up quickly and seems to be effective. The quick search feature is handy and some I have not noticed in other similar packages.
The user interface is worth a mention. The designer has created an original layout and clear graphics that I think work well. The busy animation is worth seeing.
Most anti-spyware packages are not for the feint-hearted computer novice, but the designers of this software have come up with something that I think nobody need be worried about using.

I respect Arovax guys for what they do. They are giving away great freeware user-friendly programs which are extremely important if you want to keep your PC secured. Arovax AntiSpyware is one of them. It is definately a good start. Amazing speed of scans, gui simplicity and a nice cozy layout. I am sure they will bring up tonns of features in the release. It's just an alpha afterall...
Also guys, be sure that you WILL get a feedback from Arovax guys on all your problems. Their support should be a sample for other developers -

Hi, I'm apart of the Arovax Community Forums. As apart of my testing for (Arovax) Anti-Spyware (Alpha)1.0.210 I have found but one Issues that is not really a problem. Will be fixed in the Beta however.

The scanning time to this program is fast! Yet, I feel it misses a few areas. The Beta will surefully have Improvements on the scanning. I give it 5(High).

I'm just hapy to help out on testing. I plan on using it in later Development. Best of luck to Arovax.

Good start. Keep up the good work. You really need to look into getting more virus definitions.

(Updated)

I've had prior experience with some of Arovax's programs like Arovax shield, and while they have been under suspicion for the lack of details they harbor about their products and the company itself; I'm almost positive that they are clean, and on the good side of the force.

But i'll say this, the company behind these products are marketing at some of the slowest computer users in America. Preferably old grannys and ret***s. There's never more than a few buttons on a screen, and they're simple and to the point. In a way, that clean GUI makes life easier. Yet Arovax shield tended to dumb me down everytime I looked at the interface.

Updated: (downgraded a point) - The scan generated a number of false positives like my VNC client, Pal-Talk, and other random things that may be a security issue, but are programs that are useful. The fast system scan and the full system scan seem to do the same thing...I noticed no difference, almost like both buttons are just there for the hell of it. The settings consist of what drives you scan and that's it. Needs a lot of work.

Review:

Pro:
1- easy to install
2- very lightweight
3- Very, very, fast scan (even deep scan)
4- very simple but interesting interface

Cons:
1- No signatures update system
2- No quarantine or undo possible

Very early to evaluate since it´s in alpha stage..
it´s promissing...but i recommend you shoud pay attention to this software in the future.
