This program may have some new features that are improvements yet the interface is radically different than prior versions. You cannot open native files of earlier series versions (2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7) in this 2.8 series and vice versa.
The interface is so different it is like starting all over again. Considering the fact that this program takes a lot of patience and practice to learn it is sticking you with another long time consuming learning curve. If you feel like starting over this may be the one for you to gain the benefit of any improvements in features.
They should have given this series a new name, Evee might be the best choice, this is not the Blender of past series.

Excellent rendering capabilities. It's unfortunate that only the Windows version supports DarkTree procedural textures, the Linux interface is somewhat faster to work with.

Pros: Blender provides stand alone versions you can run by simply extracting downloaded files allowing the freedom and ability to use earlier versions.
These 2.8 version releases have radical interface changes that may leave the user wanting earlier versions. If you have a lot of files created with earlier series versions, 2.4,, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 the native file format .blend will not open earlier versions in the 2.8 version. Likewise files created in 2.8 series will not open in earlier versions. You can only install one version of a program within an operating system so the problem with this new 2.8 series is serious.
I personally believe the portable ability of running Blender as a stand alone program is the advantage here. You can install one series into your operating system and still have the ability to run other versions as stand alone.
Cons: This program has undergone such radical interface change that I personally believe they should have started a new program with a different name.
If you cannot open native files of earlier versions in this 2.8 series and vice versa you have a serious problem. This is like dealing with totally different software, therefore a new name for this 2.8 series should have been developed, Evee might be a good one.
