I've been using this thing for about a year and it has proved itself to be very reliable. It doesn't do everything, but it does what I need - customizing web site builds and handling the FTP processes for me - and I reckon it has saved me about a week's worth of very dull work so far. Once you've set up a task, it's a simple click-and-forget to use.
It's not perfect. I'd like to see some online help. I'd also like a way to run BuildIt with a tasks in the command line. This would allow me to run BuildIt tasks as an automated post-build event when I build my web sites. That would save me even more time.

I like this software a lot...
I need to ftp project builds over to websites on an almost daily basis, and for me BuildIT is a gift from the Gods. That is also FREE is like having a beer bottle that's never empty. It has just turned a boring task into no task at all.

The mighty Microsoft could learn from this small developer. His blog, his obvious interest in user feedback, and his palpable efforts at making his software as good as it can be are commendable.

On the down side, the online help appears to be a blank file on my install, and I'd prefer an XP look to the GUI, but hey, it's functional and it does exactly what it claims to do.

I use this program in a production environment everyday. The developer is resposive to user requests. I couldn't find a program to replace this if I tried.

And best of all, it's free.

Thanks Dan.

This seems like a great program. I need it to zip files up and then ftp them.

I'm having just one problem:
Windows XP Home's built in zip program doesn't seem to be able to unzip or explore inside a .zip file that BuildIt created. I tried opening the .zip file with it and it doesn't show any files. You can still unzip the file with BuildIt and WinZip. (I haven't tried it on Stuffit.)

Something useful I found: When you set up your task to create a zip file you can have the date and time in the filename it creates by using $dd$ $$mm$ $yyyy$ etc. I found the variables by going to "Tools|Options" and then "E-mail Message Content". (Note: $h$:$n$ will not work right in a filename because of the colon.)

Good start, but still far too simple.
For instance you can zip files, but
can't rar them. You just can't automate
everything with this program. You're
bound to certain processes.

It's a shame.

This little program is brilliant, we have it doing everything from a daily build of our product to backing up databases and even parsing and correcting downloaded data files.

Best of all its free (at the moment), very easy to use (unlike its expensive counterparts) and the publisher does regular updates.

We couldnt live without it now :-)

There are many script functions available to do lots of things like see if a task failed and perform a separate function, just look on the Help menu for more.

As for RAR and Windows Zip files - just send the author an e-mail I am sure he will respond ;-)
