The best sharing program, only could be better the day they drop java and make it native windows soft. No adware, no spyware, clean interface.

if torrents and soulseek were never invented, and i still believed the gnutella network wasnt dead in the water, this would definitely be my filesharing app of choice.

any step away from java is a step in the right direction.

No nags with those damn moving buttons like two other programs have, even if they are supposed to be freeware. Cabos is clean, efficient and just plain awesome. If only I could give it a ten!

Not bad. I like the minimalist approach, and the adequate set of options.

My only wish, for now, is that the filter could be set to "Music" (or whatever you choose) by default. Rates a solid 4.5.

Cool application, but there are only 4 networks, so not very useful. This is after forwarding ports in router and opening firewall, I confirmed port is open so nothing blocking it and I can download fine.

Would be nice if you could minimize to system tray without having to use third party applications.

Changes for v7.5:
Auto-rename downloads when the same filename already exists.
Better spam filtering.
Fixed filename encoding. (Windows)
_________
Very resource efficient as far as java applications go, and download speeds are decent enough. I'd never use Limewire for a list of reasons; use Frostwire and save yourself trouble, otherwise, this is more efficient than either of them.

Also, it would be hard for Cabos to ever cave in because it's just the application, and Gnutella is not held on a simple chain of webservers; it would take a Holy Grail to take down the Gnutella network, which brings me to another point: the Cabos author didn't create the network, he merely created a client that accesses it, meaning he couldn't be held liable because he doesn't promote piracy either.

Back to Cabos now and am enjoying some neat finds just by browsing. Only had 1 "dud" file in 15 trys
and alot less Spam now. Torrents are great but torrent pages like Demonoid aren't available in Canada now. File sharing is threatened. Cabos is one P2P that hasn't caved in to threats like so many file share resources. Enjoy it while you can!

Just tested this NEW version (v0.7.3) this morning.

At first, I couldn't see any immediate changes. So I checked the changelog.

For those of you who have been using this app for a few months, two things will stand out like a sore thumb (once you know what to look for):

* Improved network connection
* Improved spam filter

Cabos now connects to the Limewire networks in a matter of SECONDS. Previously, it could take a few minutes to connect, which was one of my very few gripes.

Spam filtering is MUCH better, which seems to be the biggest complaint I get from customers who aren't as P2P savvy as the rest of us and accidentally download those "BuyCheapMP3" files.

Keeps getting better and better. Nice!!

This and Limewire Pro are the two best Gnutella clients I have used (tried KCEasy and Sharezaa) -fast downloads & lots of results in searches. The one feature I prefer in Limewire is the search type filter (audio, video, programs, etc.) Cabos just groups it all in one.

The Gnutella network unfortunately has become the toilet of the P2P world. Irrelevant results are always at the top of the list, far too many dead links and fake files. I know a few noobs who got viruses downloading what they thought were MP3 files using Limewire.

Good client, bad network.

runningfool

runningfool reviewed v0.7.3 on Jul 16, 2007

simply the best gnutella client out there, no exceptions. if youve used limewire or frostwire before, try cabos. and yes cabos connects to the limewire pro network too.

...granted, torrents have all but killed most dedicated p2p networks. and if youre just looking for music, soulseek is a much better choice. BUT if youre looking to connect to the limewire network, cabos is the best choice.

RaGhul

RaGhul reviewed v0.7.2 on May 17, 2007

@madcats

Try using "Edit >Preferences" (CTRL+,). Go to "Searching" and select:
Ignore files that are longer than (characters) 255
Ignore files that are smaller than (kB) 256

You can configure these settings even further by placing your own values, instead of the defaults.

This for me negates a high percentage of the 'fake' files.

There are many more settings to play with. These are just my own personal suggestions.

Nikkie

Nikkie reviewed v0.7.2 on Mar 31, 2007

Torrents don't really work well when you want a single file..most want a single file.you can edit the filter out.fake files are everywhere in p2p programs...try not downloading them o_0

madcats

madcats reviewed v0.7.2 on Mar 6, 2007

The reviews are more than a year old now I'll say this; make sure you have good Firewall & better antivirus because it's full of sick fake files. So what you "search" for isn't what you wanted.
I have never seen so many "dead links" when you try and download from the "SEARCH....GARBAGE!

Get a torrent so you can see the file data, leave this crap for the leeches, wanting "somp-om free"

dlaws,
Try installing Java. (duh!)

This app is AWESOME!!

I've been in the market for a p2p for months now, ever since BearShare turned into SpyShare. Yes, I know, it's been that way for a while now. I was using Lite and Pro. Now, even Lite and Pro are loaded with crap!!

I tried Ares. Seemed like a decent app, with an interface similar to Kazaa. And it's OpenSource. Well, it might have spies, not sure; I never checked it with SpyBot. All I know is, whenever I ran it, my internet connection kept going in and out. Weird. Buggy.

I wasn't too impressed with Cabos ...at first. Seemed slow, and the GUI left me a little cold. Then, I gave it another shot a few days ago...

NICE!! It has a little bit of a learning curve, I'll admit. Plus, it's a little slow when you first run it. Just have patience, my little Padawans.

After about 5 min or so (and after it fully connects), it finds - and downloads - files like a jogger on crack!! Blazing fast.

Trust me. Just play around with it, get a feel for it, and you'll stop using the rest.

Ok, I'm updating my post because I finally figured out why Cabos kept giving me an error when launching it. This might help others as well, hopefully.

I suggest you uninstall older versions of Cabos & delete any leftover folders as well. I fixed my issue by deleting all related Cabos reference in "application data". You can find this folder within "C:\Documents and Settings\", you may have to enable "show hidden files and folders" in tools>folder options>view.

Now look through all the user folders (ex. Administrator, All Users, Default User & your personal folder) for Cabos folders, files & delete them. Once that is done you can install the latest version of Cabos & it should work fine with no errors when launched.

Hopefully this works for you if you come across any problems using this great application.

I'm running Windows XP x64 with the latest version of Java.

Amazing Gnutella client. Limewire is full of ad ware, and is so bloated. Cabos does everything that Limewire does(with the exception of a built-in music player), but does it with a cleaner, simpler GUI and uses much less memory than Limewire does.

One of the best Gnutella clients. What is pretty funny, Cabos and FrostWire - both partisan open source apps - are based on LimeWire, a semistandard client, but they are much better than the original! It resembles eDonkey and eMule a bit. Anyway, Gnutella which is one of the oldest p2p networks is still alive.

without a doubt, the FASTEST p2p i've used for mp3s (i only use it for that, you won't find much else)

i didnt give it a 5 because it uses a nice 30MB+ chunk of RAM a-la-Java and i dont know WHY they wont let you minimize to the system tray!? i hate it sitting there in my task tray

other than that, if your done with bearshare, limewire, arez, etc. take a walk in the Cabos park, and you wont be disappointed

cabos is the best free sharing program out there. it gives fast and steady downloads. i'm not sure about limewire pro, but limewire basic is full of ads and gives really slow download compared to Cabos.
on the downside though, it is based on java(requires java installed), and is hence a big memory hog.
also seems like cabos is not yet popular as others out there, so there are fewer hosts and u can't expect to find the 'not so popular' things.

Kceasy has nothing to do with cabos . One uses gift and the other just uses gnutella .

Kceasy has its own bugs and issues . You really cant compare the two at all . Kceays actually has some major bugs with the ares network and the kazaa plugin will still give you fake mp3's ...

cabos is not overrated . This almost sounds like those anti-kiddies who hate any music that is known . Get over your image already . Dont play the same annoying game with p2p . Grow up .

Limewire is not good,it takes up to many resources.Cabos has fast downloads takes no resources at all.And when someone uploads from me the uploads speeds are fast and they dont go down they might get higher.use peer guardian and Anti-Vir I also use Bit Comet for the albums then I share them on Cabos. I hope they make a new network for it Gnu.3 or something that does not let you upload anything less then 954 kb's.I will even share at least 80 gigs of High Quality albums so guy send the feedback for my idea.

Now that they fix it where you can turn off sharing the download folder it's worth moving from the .0.4.9 to this 0.5.4

Wow, great gnutella client. Clean, convenient and extremely fast. Would be nice to correct translations and to add settings with languages selection, not manual folder removing. Russian translation is very poor, I have understood Nothing. It's better to remove such translations.

Absolutely the best filesharing program out there.. Its the light weight program I've been searching for! I love the itunes integration and the SUPER fast downloads. Keep it up Cabos developers, you're really on a roll.

This is a very very good client.
I absolutly love it.
I had problems with limewire and limewire had really slow download speeds.

Im usually a bearshare guy.. but for music this thing is the best.
I recommend this.

Tokar

Tokar reviewed v0.4.4 Beta on Aug 4, 2005

Its not abysmal. And it installs and runs fine for me.
And the last time i checked, there is a Cabos entry in the Add/Remove Programs list from the Control Panel.

1) its free
2) its open source
3) its not like limewire in that you have to buy a PRO version to unluck full searching and download capabilities.

Its got a great interface.
Limewire was built with that Java looking interface...such crap...i hate that interface. If i want a Java look I'll go use Solaris.
I want a Windows look and feel and Cabos delivers that.

And to add on to that, it allows you to import your iTunes library if you are so inclined.
Thats not the only thing to make iTunes users feel like home...
Search results and downloads are presented with an iTunes look. i.e. varying blue and white lines in a list of items, iTunes music icons, etc.

Its really nice and fast.

I really like it.

The only thing I would like to see is a window to show what one is sharing. I cant seem to find one.

Can't comment at all on the program it's self, but i can comment on this release, garbarge.

Just like the other 2 people before me have already experienced, the program keeps crashing when trying to open it after fresh install and for more one then person to suffer exactly the same fault such as this.

This release obviously has a major problem that needs to be addressed.

And no, my computer isn't "crappy", it's a 3ghz Athlon 64 with Windows XP (latest patches & updates) installed.

Oh, and i have the latest Java installed, thank you.

Did i mention there's also no uninstall feature either?

Awful release.

Remember , The program is still in beta .

Still a fantastic program .

I've tried many file-sharings applications, but this one is remarkably good, considering it's new and still in beta. I give it a 5 for good, clean UI and it's ability to become one of the best file sharings applications. Keep an eye on this piece of software :)

Great Job !!

My only wish is with java and not the maker of this program . I wish they would make java use less resources etc.

a few bugs to fix .

when it finishes the file sometimes the check doesnt come up and it stays in the incomplete folder.

when you go to open the file ,sometime it wont.

reveal in folder does this too , sometimes...

kmx

kmx reviewed v0.3.9 Beta on Jun 3, 2005

Excellent program!
Files can be found quickly, and download speeds are very, very good. The program has an optional integration into iTunes if you so use it. I would prefer if the program integrated into WinAMP or gave some other media player options.

The reason I give 4 stars instead of 5, is because there are still stability problems with the program. It will sometimes not shut down properly, or slow down overall internet usage. Aside from these issues, it's a very useful piece of software.

Nikkie

Nikkie reviewed v0.3.8 on May 27, 2005

i had a problem with the file finishing and getting that check mark that it does at the end . sometimes the file gets stuck . this version seems decent , so far . the above is the only bug i have found .

btw , Shareaza does find a lot but try to get any downloads to start without tweaking the program and then sit as it takes years for it to complete with even a dsl connection . im sorry but i dropped that program a long time ago .

bangbang023

bangbang023 reviewed v0.3.8 on May 24, 2005

how about a trey icon to minimize to and resize later ..i normally leave the program running for uplaods but dont have room on my toolbar .. just to minimize to the trey would be a good function ...

also , is g2 possible ..dont bother if it ties the program down . i like it the way it is .. just brain storming etc..

great p2p , btw .

Theres one problem . It drops the connections and you cant reconnect . You have to close the program and then lose your downloads ..

Bigger problem ... It kills your internet connection and the downloads get stuck .

The link doesn't work . I searched and found the verison before this one .The program has the right idea but needs to be less of a resource hog , connect to more networks (5 wont cut it) and some functions shouldnt be so far out of reach ..

also , it needs to find sources on its own ...

Wow, i must say this program's pretty good in comparison to other gnutella clients i've tried. It's interface is minimal and clean but it can definitely improved. The download speeds are quick and is pretty low on resources.... I would like to see where this program has to hold for the future! 4/5
