WHY? Do you call the full suite by Comodo "bloat"?
I installed it and am using the AV, FW, and HIPS, and the TOTAL memory used SYETM WIDE is MAYBE 180MB thatincludes the OS as well as all other items in memory.
So, I guess you have a rather perverted definition of bloat.

Hi jorgosch,

Please find standalone downloaders for firewall and av below.

http://download.comodo.c...alone/cfw_installer.exe
http://download.comodo.c...alone/cav_installer.exe

Alternatively you can do a custom install choosing either firewall or av or both from its suite.

LOL I think allot of the people complaining work for the pay programs and are trying to kill the free market. I downloaded the free firewall just a few minutes ago and al the sudden my computer came to life!! AMD with microstar mainbored it was already fast and i just had it built a couple weeks ago but i couldn't believe the difference right off the bat. I had private firewall for a few days and it was good so far but to speed me up before i even run a scan, -thumbup- Im convinced already this is one H.E. double hockysticks of a firewall. LOL now just to see how it preforms in yahoo when I chat in there. If it blocks hackers as good as they say it does im sold ;) Just to bad you can't give a 6 star rating lol

Sammo reviewed v4.1.150349.920 on Jul 26, 2010

Pros: The new version has a much higher detection rate that when I tried it in the past and works seamlessly with Comodo Firewall and Defense +. It also has an effective behavior blocker.
Cons: Not really cons, but it does not directly scan email or have a web shield like avast! does. Comodo seem so effective that it catches stuff that may come through email or the web anyway.
Summary: This version is really worth a try. The effectiveness of the AV is as good or better than most of the other ones out there:
Here are a few results of on-demand tests of 5000 samples at raymond.cc:
Avira Premium 4961/5000 (99.22%)
AVG 4669/5000(93.38%)
Avast 4867/5000 (97.34%)
Comodo 4980/5000 (99.6%)
Eset 4497/5000 (89.94%)
Kaspersky 4924/5000 (98.48%)

Great for a free program! Easily competes with the AV programs people pay good money for. Updates regularly, and for as long as I've been using it (almost a year) I haven't had a single problem. Takes little resources, the list goes on! 5/5

Tao2005

Tao2005 reviewed v2.0.17.58 Beta on Apr 27, 2008

I have used comodo for a year, and they haven't done me wrong. I do object to those damn fees for paid virus programs, who always want money. I understand why they do it. I have tried the big wig anti-virus programs in the past, and had complications, in running them.

Take MCAfee for example. Couldn't log in to my account, or my account is invalid. This is the type BS. that I am getting tired of. Same problems exhist in Norton, ZoneAlarm, and ect. Ain't found it in comodo. What about spending $80 on an Anti-Virus program. Well I wouldn't even pay $60 for one.

The world of Anti-Viruses are only doing this, to get your money. Though I'm a generous person. I do enjoying to a worthy cause, but not if I have to fork over $50 plus dollars for an AV program.

Take it from me. Their all the same, the only difference is their UI (user interface). Take Symantec and McAfee for example. They are both in it to out do each other.

Ask me, sell a product for a cheap price, and you can make it big in the world. That isn't the rules of monopoly though, or is it? You be supprised.

Comodo, does what they say it does, and for a good price. They'll safe gaurd your system for next to nothing, and with little problems. Unlike symantec, and mcafee.

So if you want cheap, and problem-matic free, ladies and gentile men, I give you Comodo.

been evaluating for three days now. seems efective and very nice looking interface - except windows need to be resizable. this is a no-brainer for any high-end interface as end users have differrent aspect ratio monitors, different resoloutions and different tastes. - database has updated every day. - having to approve execution of every program is nice. nothing else i've found does this. (tea timer and start-up monitor allow you to approve start-up changes only. this may replace those.(in time). submitting all run attempts to the community database is cool. Comodo is getting better and smarter all the time (ideally). !- there needs to be a pop-up for incoming email scan! this must be an oversight as there is a pop-up shown for outgoing email scan and incoming email is, obviously, a much greater threat. *PROS - good looking interface; daily virus database updates; program execution sentry; growing communty database. *CONS - windows not resizable!; no pop-up for incoming email scan! - needs a report for programs which attempted to run and user's decision.

it has a nice menu, it's easy, to become really quick a nice overview.

bobad

bobad reviewed v2.0.15.51 Beta on Aug 15, 2007

This is a very nice AV program, and has unlimited potential. Remember folks, this program is BETA, and the developer does not recommend it as a primary AV program. That said, how can anyone downgrade it because the definition database is lacking? Instead, be fair and look at the GUI, features, stability, scanner speed, etc. Shame on anyone that downgrades the program for the database! Comodo has excellent support forums, so drop in and lobby for your favorite features.

My only complaint with this program is the hit popup. It doesn't give you any options. OK simply doesn't cut it. The popup should have 4 check boxes: "Clean", "Quarantine", "Delete", and "White List". 1 point off for that! Otherwise, it's great!

Point Zero

Point Zero reviewed v2.0.15.51 Beta on Aug 15, 2007

Their AV is at the same level as their "firewall", cheap, buggy & worthless.

bellgamin

bellgamin reviewed v2.0.15.51 Beta on Aug 14, 2007

If you want your computer protected, you really SHOULD pay attention (regardless of Alpha258's insult).

The primary job of any antivirus program -- including Comodo AV (CAV) -- is to protect the user's computer. Concerning that...

The only change from one CAV beta to the next lies in upgrades to CAV's engines (real-time & on-demand scanner engines; heuristics engine; et alia).

However, the fatal deficiency of CAV isn't its engines, but is instead the fact that CAV has a grossly inadequate data base of malware signatures.

The tests referred to in my earlier post are those made by a professional independent testing organization (AV-Comparatives). Those tests are tests of each AV program's detection rates, & those detection rates are primarily based on an AV's blacklists/signature data bases. CAV failed those tests by a very wide margin.

CAV's data base proved to be sadly lacking, and there is no evidence that they have taken adequate steps to fix that problem.

Commenting on CAV's GUI and other cosmetics is an exercise in cart-before-the horse. The first & foremost job of an AV is PROTECTION. Everything else is of secondary importance. CAV's data base of malware simply does not provide adequate protection in its present primitive state.

If someone wants to use CAV's beta for *second-opinions*, that's maybe not so bad. But his or her main antivirus protection should be provided by something a LOT LOT better than CAV is at this stage.

ed philips

ed philips reviewed v2.0.14.50 Beta on Jul 5, 2007

The interface is pretty basic, ease of use is ok for a novice which, is very good as few newbies are that computer literate.

The real downside is the HIPS feature, it is worse than any malware I've seen, especially when it locks up a computer to the point that a reboot is required, not a good thing for a beginner or an experienced user.

So I can say that this software is one I shall not be recommending.

Alpha258

Alpha258 reviewed v2.0.14.50 Beta on Jul 5, 2007

Take no notice of Bellgamin as that person is still reviewing the Beta 1.1 version of Comodo antivirus. I think this antivirus is brillant! Nice user friendly GUI, Hips, frequent updates, on access scanner and safelist database. The concept of the safelist is brillant... Comodo antivirus detects safe programs and new unrecognised programs are submitted to Comodo to be added to safelist or virus database. When you scan your pc items on the safelist are not scanned, so scanning times are really short. Scanning my computer only takes about 13 mins on average and my pc has average specs.

This antivirus program was professionally tested a few months ago. To read the report...
>Go to http://www.av-comparatives.org/
>Click "Comparatives" in left-side column
>On the ensuing web page, scroll down about 3/4 of the way to the line entitled "Test of other Anti-Virus products February 2007." On that line click "Report PDF"

The above action will cause the download of a brief PDF report of test results. As you will see this AV had only 27% detection rate. It was simply horrible then & there is no reason to assume that it has progressed to any significant degree.

IMO you should NOT trust your computer's security to this shoddy program. It is little more than a pretty GUI.

bobad

bobad reviewed v2.0.14.50 Beta on May 15, 2007

Excellent GUI, excellent options, sensible install.

Unfortunately, it has a very slow scanning engine. I do mean slow. SLower than any I have ever used. It took FOREVER to scan my very fast Raptor 74gb HDD on a blazing fast 3.2ghz Core2 Duo machine! If you have below average hardware, expect to have a few cups of coffee while waiting for the initial scan to finish. The program folder size is absolutely huge, which is unfortunately becoming a trademark of Comodo. HIPS will drive you nuts until it gets to know your apps, which is not surprising. I mean, you have to tell it that MAXTHON is safe, for goshsakes. Fortunately, HIPS can be deactivated if you wish, with very little sacrifice in security. A GLARING weakness is the absence of an easy option to ignore false hits (or hits that are not false, but you know are harmless). For example, I get a hit on a password revealer that I use occasionally in case I forget a password on a web page. I want to tell it to ignore that file, but must jump through hoops to do so.

I hope the above issues are remedied in later betas, because I really like the GUI and tray applet. Overall, the program shows great promise.

Have used Comodo firewall for a time now, and had no problem with it whatsoever. Now I had Comodo AV for 24 hrs, and so far it seems as it's of the same high quality as the firewall. As Saturn1 notes, I see that it's far more friendly on the resources compared to all other AV's I have used. So if it keep on keeping virus away - well then I will rate it with a five star next time round as well (-:

a great product free or others. this could end up being the best anti virus when all is said and done.

the integration of HIPS with the anti virus and file submission is very creative. if everyone had this anti virus and all the unknown files submitted then this would eventually end up being the best, seeing as every single file would be in their system. it would save both extra scanning as well as added protection against viruses that no other anti virus could match

I have used NAV for several years, most recently the 2007 version. I decided to upgrade my ZoneAlarm Pro to include the antivirus portion after using the Pro firewall for a couple years (and uninstalled the NAV).
I had problems with both NAV and Zone together in that they seemed to HOG my laptop resources. I have XP home, Pentium 4 2.3 GHz, 60 GB HD (1/2 still free), and I personally upgraded my RAM from 512MB to 1 GB. I thought it would help things fly. The fans were still going on high and the computer kept getting too hot (I even tried the Targus chillpad!), and would just quit in the middle of a virus scan (which usually would take about an hour with each program). A few days ago I uninstalled Zone and NAV and decided to try the Comodo Firewall and Antivirus. The antivirus interface looks great and has many options I don't yet understand (but I used the 'standard' settings. The e-mail confirmation went through in a few minutes. Definitions are updated daily. I ran a virus scan and it took 35 minutes. It found 2 trojan viruses that wouldn't disinfect, so I deleted them. The firewall seems easy to use as well, though the Zone firewall had even more options. To sum up: the firewall and AV seem to work well and quickly, and - the big improvement - my CPU starts up and shuts down WAY quicker than before! Shutdown Windows only takes about 10 seconds versus the previous minute or so!

Nice AV. It's still a bit slow in scanning, but does do a thorough scan. Comodo are working on integrating AntiSpyware defs into the scanning database and update the app very, very regularly.

Clean interface design, logical layout and configurable enough to satisfy most users (IMHO).
