Publisher's Description

Core Force is the first community oriented security solution for personal computers. It is free and provides a comprehensive endpoint security solution for Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems. The security framework provided is leveraged by a community of security experts that share their security configurations for a growing list of programs. These security profiles can be downloaded by any user from the community Web site and they're also completely open so that they can be peer-reviewed to minimize security hazards. The community approach to endpoint security also allows end-users who are not security experts to work in a secure environment.

This baby is the real deal. Probably the best free software firewall out there. If you used TPF you will find it relatively easy to transition to this.

Contrary to the previous poster's remarks, I find the security functions of this app to be better than TPF.

Coreforce is truly a beta, dont expect complete security.
Maybe in one oder two years this one can be a seriously firewall, but atm dont trust it to much.

Thist firewall might be hard for beginners, but can be fun to learn.

If you are looking for a seriously firewall with high level of security, try tiny personal firewall.

It offers more protection that Sygate's excellent (but no longer supported) Personal Firewall.

Core Force's firewall will actually allow you to control what directories and registry areas an application has access to, in addition to the expected management of TCP/IP connections, a la Sygate.

Very promising...but how does it compare to Sygate Personal Firewall?

Very promising software. Good framework, runs as advertised. However, user interface needs a LOT of work. Also, need a [better] interactive learning mode. Right-clicking on event log entry and selecting "add permission" seems to have no effect - the action is still denied. Some extensions were broken in Firefox.
Very good start, but I will wait for the next version. :)

Message to dawell:

Don't blame this proram because your system is bad, your system is bad because you didn't have a program like this in the first place. Almost every machine I clean the viiruses off tries to blue screen, thats whats viruses do. But to give any program a low rating cuz you have no clue what you are doing is pointless.

BTW this program is great, after you have a clean system. Clean it first, then install this.

This is more than just a firewall, but the firewalling component in itself is the most robust technology of all available firewalls: OpenBSD's PF
Besides the ability to do inbound and outbound stateful packet filtering *per application* it can also be used to block access to registry keys and values and file system objects. It is very comprehensive and it is free although it is still in early beta it beats everyother package I've seen and with Tiny gone its the only real option if you want effective security for free.

When I installed this version, my computer crashed with a blue screen instead of booting Windows XP.

It made changes to the IE registry settings which were not reversed when it was uninstalled

This is a great idea, and in a year or so when the community adds new profiles it could be great. But as the previous guy said, it is a firewall.
The site makes you think you are downloading some kind of super security software that has never been seen before.
It is comprehensive, the info you get as it alerts you is the best i have seen in a free fire wall. But that is where it falls down.
It alerts you to everything. I dont have time to keep clicking ok to everything my pc does, avast needed me to accept 4 or 5 things. It is not easy enough to use for people who are trying to work.
Which brings me back to how it could be good in a year or so. As people add new programs to the community list of safe software, it will be possible to just install this, download the apps list and it work nicely.
But now it is to much work to use your pc while it is installed. I hope that people with more free time than me will use this and make brilliant safe lists, but for now back to zone alarm or netveda for me.

It is just a firewall!

CORE FORCE provides inbound and outbound stateful packet filtering for TCP/IP protocols using a Windows port of OpenBSD's PF firewall.
